  1. yeah That's Linden Realms but it's not a mining game. The crystals are right there in the open, you just run around and run into them. You don't need equipment.
  2. Perhaps I was a bit too harsh because I have seen so many land scammers and it is infuriating. While I can't 100% condone the actions because I do still believe that you knew you may be selling your land at an inflated rate to someone who doesn't really want it but rather just wants the ugly for sale sign gone (come on, at least a little in the back of your mind you knew that was possibly the case), I do not believe that you are a con artist. I believe that even though your actions appeared superficially similar to those often undertaken by land scammers that this was not at all your intent and was due to ignorance rather than malice. I'm confident it's not going to be a continued pattern of bahavior on your part or anything so it's all water under the bridge now. And hey, maybe he really was fine with paying that incredibly high price for that land and the whole thing isn't even an issue at all. He could certainly have contacted you if he had a problem with your actions which I am guessing he didn't do, so at least that part is on him.
  3. If you don't even know what you need to know to do your job... sorry to say but I'm afraid your employer has hired the wrong person for the job. SL club management is not just something you can breeze into because you've been a moderator on a forum...
  4. Well, what we're trying to tell you is it may not be possible to go there. however there are other places with tutorials and help that are even better than the tutorial they give you when you start. Oxbridge is one of the best. Another is NCI which is here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kuula/56/168/28 If you're really just dead set on doing that Welcome Island tutorial for some reason, the easiest way would be to create another account and go through it maybe?
  5. Do NOT got to where Luxen just linked to. That's the old Help Island and it is constantly full of griefers nowadays. It's like the slums of SL. 80% of people there will give you wrong information, try to cheat you, or just grief you with orbitors, etc You're seriously much better off going to Caledon Oxbridge. There is a great tutorial there and people who are actually dedicated to helping new people. Edit: Luxen has since removed the link.
  6. I don't think you can get back to the Welcome island after you leave it right? I'm not sure about that, but I didn't think you could.
  7. Here's the SLURL for Oxbridge new resident help: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Oxbridge/93/139/27
  8. Personal attacks? lol You're pretty funny. Yes I heavily criticize your deplorable actions but nothing has been personal against you. Now you're just trying to paint me as a bad person so you can feel better. You admit earlier in this very thread that you know you paid too much for that land. Then you knowlingly jacked up the price even more to sell it to someone who you knew you had in a vulnerable spot. You knowingly took advantage of someone for your own gain. You can rationalize it however you want that helps appease your conscience but you know that's true. But yes, it seems that further discussion is likely to be unproductive. We all the know the score.
  9. You paid way too much for the land and then when you realized it, you decided to blackmail someone else into taking the hit and even profit from it. That's about as big of a scam as scams get. I didn't think it was all that bad before I realized how much you took him for, but that's pretty bad.
  10. Oh sorry, I misunderstood that the 3,000L was profit. Yeah making 3,000L profit on a parcel that shouldn't even have cost 3,000L is pretty bad. I take back the part about you not pricing it very high. That means you forced a 1024 parcel on someone for like 13,000L? Ok yeah. That's deplorable. There's no excuse for that. P.S. There's a green reply button on the bottom of the page that you can use to reply in general and not any specific post.
  11. You did not do anything "wrong" in the sense that it is illegal, against TOS or anything like that. I have already noted before as well that the price you sold it for was not even ludicrously high. (This is actually a point I'm confused about but not really relevant. You said you sold it for 13L/sqm and that you sold it for 3,000L... so the land is only 230 sqms? I find that hard to believe. but anyway,) You know what you did. You purposely took advantage of someone because you could. End of story. Could you have done worse? Absolutely. In the end, it's only 3,000L and the whole thing will soon be forgotten. But don't sit here trying to make excuses for yourself. You know exactly what you did.
  12. Note that I was here earlier in this thread and said that you had done nothing wrong by having that parcel and that is true. There is also, of course, nothing wrong with you selling it. But let's cut the crap shall we? You were perfectly happy putting the parcel up for only a little more than you paid until your neighbor made the surrounding area look far better than it looked before. You realized at that point that you could ruin the look of the region and force him to buy at an inflated price to get rid of you. There is no other reason that you would have increased the price. You saw an opportunity to take advantage of someone and you took it. Listen I'm not saying you are an inherently terrible person or anything, but this was a shady deal and you know it.
  13. The price it sold at wasn't so high. However, the OP themselves said they sold it for an "inflated price." By definition, an "inflated price" is a price that is higher than it should be. And I would bet money that the surrounding land owner bought the land to get rid of that ugly parcel more than because they actually wanted the land. If the OP really wanted to sell the land to someone who wanted it, they would have made a nice island there that fit in with the surroundings then maybe the owner of the surrounding land would have bought it or maybe someone else who liked it would, but as it was, the OP made the land a really unattractive flat square with nothing but an ugly for sale sign on it trying to induce the owner of the surrounding land to buy in order to get rid of that ugly parcel. So yes, it was a sort of blackmail even if the OP didn't charge all that much for it. But you are right. There are worse people out there.
  14. Catch a Crook is an exciting game in which you must quickly question witnesses to gather information about a crook on the loose, and turn in your info for a Linden reward! Make Lindens much more quickly than most other games, and have fun doing it. ONLY available at Lutra City http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lutra/112/23/70
  15. I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly, but it sounds to me like you saw that your neighbor wanted to make a nice seaside area there so you purposely made your parcel look as bad as possible and jacked up the price? That's deplorable behavior... It sounds similar to what someone is doing near my city. He bought a 512 parcel at auction right next door to someone's house then immediately put the ugliest for sale sign ever on it (looks a lot like yours) and set it for sale for a ludicrous amount. I think he thought one of us others who have land nearby would buy it at his crazy price just to get rid of him. Ain't gonna happen.
  16. This is very common, yes, but very much not allowed. So, be careful of doing things just because you see others doing it. Best to familiarize yourself with the TOS instead.
  17. I don't know what's more hilarious. The fact that that site exists or the fact that anyone is upset about it.
  18. Just watched the original one (Boy Mayor). I was surprised. Unlike 99.9% of these types of videos, these guys are actually really funny! Gonna check out the new trilogy.
  19. Hello, Lutra City has grown larger, and there are now a bunch of vacant shops in town. I'd like to offer up these stores for free to creators of quality stuff who need an in world store. It looks better than having them sit there vacant. They are very small, just 12x8 meters. Lutra City is a popular destination that is listed in the Editors' Picks of the destination guide. You WILL get people coming by your store. If interested, contact me in world: ilithios liebknecht. Drop me a note card describing your products and preferably a link where I can see them as well as any other info you have for me about why your store would be an asset to the city. To be accepted you must be the creator of the items you are selling. No resellers, businesses in a box, that kind of thing. Some further things that will give you preference sort of in order of importance: 1. Would be best if this is your main in world store location. Not all that interested in people who just want to come and drop off a couple vendor boards and forget about them. Because these stores are so small, that means this is best for people who currently have no in world store at all, currently sell only on MP, and would like a small in world location. 2. Preference given to very high quality products. 3. Preference given to interesting and unique products. 4. Would be cool if the products fit in with the theme of the city (detectives, mysteries, adventure games, etc) or are at least the kinds of things a real store would sell (but even something like hair could be made to look like a salon or something) http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lutra/139/97/55
  20. Contrary to what some may believe, there is most certainly mainland etiquette. However, nothing you have done is in violation of it. Since you're a new landowner, here is some basic mainland etiquette to be aware of: 1. Do not set ban lines. 2. Do not have security orbs with less than a 30 second warning. 3. Do not place big ugly skyboxes on the ground. 4. In general, be willing to work out issues with neighbors and acquiesce to reasonable requests. Just remember that by buying land on the mainland, you are agreeing to be part of a community. You can't treat your land as if no one else can see it. Like I said, you don't seem to be in violation of any etiquette, though. Buying land that is for sale and using that land is no violation of etiquette.
  21. Introducing the Adventure Game Nexus! Here you will find tp's out to the highest quality adventure games in Second Life. Adventure games in SL have been hard to find with no good category in the Destination Guide and no central place to look for them. It's easy not to find them even when specifically looking for adventure games! The Adventure Game Nexus has information on the best of the best in SL adventure games and tp's out to them. This is not a commercial location. The creators pay nothing to be featured here. These games are hand selected and invited to be here because they are the best games available. Go on an adventure today! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Redstone/88/16/4001
  22. Because of other projects I don't have much time to keep my live music bar, Pickle Pub, going with live acts. The event Manager's job is simply to find and book acts into the bar along with a host, list the event in SL events, and see that it goes off well. You will get 90% of venue tips for every event you organize. Yep, you have no costs and make 90% of profits. I continue to pay the costs of keeping the doors open. You just bring in acts. A passion for live music is a must and past experience running events is very preferable. I will give you some names of performers who have performed here in the past or have contacted me about an interest to perform here. Best way to reply is in world IM to Ilithios Liebknecht
  23. Tamara - I will see what I can do about making the parcel more atmospheric. I don't much care for sims that are always dark. That's just a personal preference. I don't much care for walking around in the dark all the time. Looking for a windlight that would be good though, and will look at other details and so forth. Can't really replace the NPC's with real people. Real people would occasionally want to log off or at least move and that would break the games. I have given some thought to making the NPC's bots but decided against it for a few reasons. Bots can also crash, I've seen it lots of times. And then the games would be unplayable. But the main reason is that I would like the NPC's to be very easily distinguishable from other people at the parcel. Otherwise people will run around clicking everyone in sight not knowing for sure who is part of the game and who isn't. Best to keep the game elements easily recognizable as such. I will try events again. I just need to figure out how to do them so people show up I guess. I tried events for quite a while and had almost no one showing up. It was a waste of time planning them. I'd really be interested to know how those people get their events constantly featured on the front of search. They're not even good events. Almost all of them are just advertisements and not an event at all. And it's always the same places featured there (Wet Willies, Toys Brothel, Heartbreak Sex Resort, Jinxies Gentlemen's Club, etc) ALWAYS the same places ALL the time day in and day out, and none of them are having real events! They're just advertisements pretending to be events and they are featured on the front page of search constantly. What do they do to achieve that? I would really like to know.
  24. Some good responses here thank you. Pamela - Good idea with the picture of the HUD in the game environment. I think a link to the location in world is more valuable than a link to the marketplace. As you mentioned, a lot of people won't understand what the games are until they have tried the demo. People who are familiar with adventure games need no explanation to understand what the games are; they'll get it right away. For others I could write 20 pages of description and they still wouldn't really know what I'm talking about until they show up and play the demo/tutorial game. Therefore my #1 priority is getting people to the location where the games take place so they can see it for themselves rather than sending them to an MP page that is guaranteed to be less informative than just playing the demo game. You say a 200L game wouldn't interest anyone, but I can't see any evidence to support the fact that people ever pay much more than that for games in SL. Can you name even one game that costs much more than that to play? The Fantasia Experience costs 250L but that's the highest priced game I even know about, and obviously that's not high priced. Of course I would love to think that raising the price would bring more players, but I don't see any evidence that's the case. Tamara - Yes, I am trying a variety of methods. I am just trying to get ideas for even more methods to try. While the games are essentially single player games in that what one person does doesn't affect the state of anyone else's game, people do them together all the time. Since the gameplay is figuring out what to do and how to do it, working together is certainly possible and makes the games much easier to complete. I think that it could be a fun datish thing to do if both people are gamers. However, rarely does anyone complete a game in only one day. A few have, but most people take days or even weeks to complete the games. They are full length games. I will try to get that information in the MP descriptions somehow although honestly, almost no sales come from MP. About 5 people a day buy the game on average and almost all of them buy it in world. I have made 1 actual sale on MP, and 11 people total have got the free demo from there. I will certainly revise the listing to see if that helps but it doesn't seem MP is where my focus should be. It's not moving there. Have a web site here: http://www.standoffsoftware.com/ the games are mostly appropriate for kids. There's drinking of alcohol by the player in the latest one, but no sex type stuff. Saulgoodie - First of all, you have a new bar in Keswick right where my latest game takes place! You probably see people walking around there playing it all the time. I will try my best to go around and make friends with people. I was never the type who just picks up friends wherever I go, so that might actually be the most difficult kind of marketing I could do lol. But I'll try. Yes, I agree with you about trying to get people outside of SL. I tried once a week ago, posting on an adventure game forum and even offered to give people the game for free if they mentioned they came from that forum! and the forum owners banned me from the forum for the post lol I love it. They like adventure games so much they make a forum dedicated to them, but they hate people who make adventure games so much they ban them from the forum. In any case, I probably should continue to see if there is some interest from people outside of SL. I will put some time into that. While I do agree completely with you about the psychological impact of a more expensive product seeming higher quality to people because they paid more for it, see my response to Pamela above. I just don't see anyone doing anything similar in SL charging very much more than I am and I've looked a lot. If I had, I would have priced it higher. Darren - I have never understood how to market things on Facebook. I have gone all out with the Facebook thing with previous projects in my RL companies, and it doesn't seem to go anywhere. Apparently I just don't have the "Facebook Marketing" skill. Well, I have no marketing skill, but that method has proven especially fruitless in the past.
