  1. Drongle, that is GLORIOUS!!! It is exactly what I wanted to do and it looks brilliant. Now, I actually haven't built anything inside SL for a while nor have I had the need for alphas in a long time, so could you please guide me along? Ah, and I was never good with creating alphas. Also, I use photoshop. Also, I was going to use a brush to create the victorian pattern, so that might make things easier? Finally, From what I could tell, the walls where the wallpaper is to applied (both the blck background as wll as the pattern) need to be SL in-game prims in order to set up the reflexion. Correct? Which means, I can't include the walls in my building project in Blender, as a full mesh object, correct? Yes, I'm very bad at this, I need to go slowly. Bear with me.
  2. Hello! Need some info: I want to make a wallpaper texture that has a black background and a different black pattern (victorian). My idea was to make it so that when light is shined on the walpaper, in SL, the patter would reflect the light in a glossy way. I'm guessing this isn't really possible in SL, but I'd though I'd ask. Also, this is for a room I'm making in Blender 2.66. I'm texturing the walls of the room so if there's any tool inside Blender that I could use for texturing this for the glossy effect, please let me kow. Thank you!!
  3. Hello everyone, I'm new to the scripting section. I came here to ask some questions about HUDs. I plan to release my first mesh hair for my shop and I wanted to incorporate an HUD or script menu thingy that allowed the buyer to change hair colour. I also plan to release some hair accessories, that have more elaborate parts (let's say 3 textures/faces (?)) and I want to have an HUD that allows me to change the textures, one at the time. For example, let's say the accessory is a ribbon with a bow, both have their own material and an asortment of textures for each. I want to be able, in SL, to click on the mesh, select either "bow" or "ribbon" and then select a texture and it will apply. I think this is possible in SL, I'm curious about how it works and what I need to prepare. I don't intend to learn scripting; I was thinking of hiring someone to do this for me or find an easy scripting tool in the marketplace (suggestions are welcomed), I just wanted to know what I need to prepare. Aside from assigning different materials to the parts I want textured, and making the correcponding textures based on the UV maps, what else do I need to provide to the scripter? Oh yes, I use Blender 2.66 for meshing. Thank you for the info!

    Two in one

Aaahh!! So much work just for preatty feet!!! T_T
  5. If you're looking for a full tutorial video, including topology, clothing, features, etc, I suggest going to youtube and watching the Blenderella series. If you're not using blender, than you'll need to research a bit more, but preatty much all companies do these kinds of videos. I'm also not sure if they have the entire video on youtube, but you can easily buy the DVD online from the blender website, somewhere.

I mean, I want to cut this foot up to make the toes. Is that possible?
  7. Hum, good suggestions, but not quite there yet.

    Two in one

Hello again guys! Haven't seen you lot for a while. :P Been busy and my hobby of blendering had to take the back seat for a while. But hey! I'm back (more or less) and still have a ton of projects to finnish. I have that curse where I start a bunch of stuff and never finnish everything. XD So, I wanted to ask if there's any way to pleasantly smooth ut these nasty spikes I'm getting with my hair weighting, without going into manual weight paiting; I just can't properly get to all vertices with the brush and most of my attempts at weight paiting have done more harm than good to this thing. I've weighted it using vertice groups (that's how I used to weight before getting a bit more used to the paint brushing thing), but I'm still getting some bad cuts: And second question: how to tackle the hard tast of modeling convincing mesh feet from the traditional SL avatar: Suggestions? XD
  9. Looking for these two styles of hair, especially the one of the left (extra curly). Preferably a mix of sculpts and flexy but I'll take full mesh as well. ;) Thanks you so much everyone!
  10. Gaia, how many times do I have to tell you that you're amazing?! Can I add one more time to the list? Thank you so, so much for all your hard work and advice!!!
  11. Oh, that sounds like a good idea, Czari. But won't the other costumers be unhappy, having to pay for a new, identical dress? I'm mainl thinking of transforming a prim dress into a mesh version. Still same dress, though. I'm kinda afraid of having massive complaints, people thinking I'm cheating them out of their money...
  12. I must warn you that my photogrophy skills are almost non-existent. I went to the featured Rust area today. It really was breath-taking. My doll-like self was drawn to the infinite ocean wondering if I would ever get off the rusting clockwork island...
  13. I've been wanting to ask this for a while: many shops periodicaly do updates of current or old dresses they've had in thrie stores. Now, I don't want the costumers that have already purchased the old version to feel cheated out of their money, so I wanted to know if there's any way to eitehr send an updated version of the item to these costumers OR notify them of the new update? Thank you very much!

    Bizarre topology

I really do love hunting for some free models online: I found it the most intuitive way to learn modeling, reshaping and just cutting and arranjing meshes. It's a hole lot of fun (kinda like lego!) BVut I have come across a really bizarre thing. Again, free models so I'm never expecting something spectacularly well-made, but... well, take a look at this: I've never seen anything like this before. I'm posting it here simply because I'm curious as to why this mesh looks like this and why this happens (so I can avoid it myself). I've been playing around with it all afternoon (had nothing better to do) and for the life of me I can't understand what's happening here. I tried removing doubles, but nothing happened. It has no vertex groups, no modifiers, no materials, nothing I could find that was causing this. It didn't even have overlapped faces. Anyone have any guesses what's happening here? Now I'm really curious.
  15. I've also been wanting for a long time to import manequins into SL. While I can easily make them now, I really wished them to be at max 10 prims (LI) so as to not ocupy much space. 1 prim would be a dream. These would be for shop displays. Any suggestions on this?
  16. I might just do that next time I see another of these posts pop up.

    Errors in Blender

I'm having two errors: one inside blender, the other comming from the mesh uplaoder in SL: *In the uploader, the mesh doesn't load and I get a message "error: dae parsing issue - see log for details" *In blender, when I parent the mesh to the armature (auto weights), I get a message saying they couldn't find weight selections for all the bones, but the mesh tiself didn't have any vertex groups assigned. In the uploader, it doesn't show when I select the preview weights option. ....Help? ^.^
  18. Thank you! Bought a super cute AO from Oracle, that's both sy and dolly-like (especially the sitting). ^.^
  19. Shopping for AOs is tricky; I came here looking for two advices: *Anyone know of any AO stores in-world that have texters or samples to try out bits of the AO before you buy them? *Anyone know eitehr a shy-girl AO or maybe even a child-like AO that could be used on a teenager? Thank you very much! And yes, this is for my dolly look in SL. ^.^
  20. This is also true for women's mesh avatars: I had to MAKE my own because I couldn't get the look I wanted with the system SL avatar and I simply couldn't find my ideal vision up for sale anywhere in the MP. So I had to make one myself. I'm in advantage because I know mesh, but fair warining: I started out with absolutly no knowladge of mesh programs or photoshop and texturing. So my advice is, if I can do it, anyone can do it. The question is, do you want to? How badly do you want to realise your vision of looking like you want to? And es, system clothing no longer works with my avatar; the only "original" clothing from SL that I can still wear are prim skirts and I never liked those (I prefer mesh). Fortunatly, I've begun making my own clothes: three outfits: one for dancing, one for everyday and one formal. If you're thinking of going Totally customizable, this should cover it. Of course, you cans till BUY mesh clothing from shop designers.... if you can make it fit.... T_T My avatar is very lean and thin and most of the times the clothing makes me look fat and the chest isn't in the right place (it's lower). So, no breaks for me. Hair and accessories are the only things I'll be able to buy now. I cn also buy certain shoes, but I have to make the alpha layer myself to fit. So yes, a LTO of trouble. I can see why many people do not care about mewsh atvatars; it's too much work. The ONLY solution to this that I could find is to uy a mesh avatar from a shop that ALSO sell clothing (and shoes, hopefully). Because of this, designers will almost certainly include, along with the strandard XXS->L sizes, a special size with the name of that shape/avatar so it's fitted properly. They also make the proper alpha layer. This is your best bet. Still, you're at an advantage with the shoes, since men don't exactly wear revealing shoes like women. You'll only have to worry in the summer with flipflops. Final note: if you simply can't find the look you want up for buy in the MP and you don't know how to make mesh yourself, you can always hire a mesh artist and texturer to make you a mesh avatar in the specific look you want. Mind you, this will be terribly expensive, but if you have the L$ to spare, you can try it. Good luck!
  21. Actually, I was looking to do do the oposite with the SL viewr. Is it possible to have your feet hovering above ground?
  22. Thank you so much for the feedback! One more pic: I've been trying out some spring time looks (even though here it's non-stop rain IRL ), and yes, the eyes are fro By Snow. Only 15$ and they are amazingly beautiful!! Still a clean look: little makeup yet, but I'll work on adding some lashes. One mroe thing I wanted to ask, but forgot earlier: Hands. Anyone here have mesh avatars? What kind of hand poses do they come with? Are the fingers long? I'm taking BJD dolls as general reference, but they have tiny hands and small fingers and I'm going for a more realistic, human-like look. But not sure about the hand pose: EDIT: Hair was a demo from Edel Store, "Lia".
  23. I'd like to know where fashion enthusiasts go inworld to chat with eachother and talk about SL fashion. I'd like to meet new people inworld who like to dress and shop and discuss. Is there a hangout place? Thank you!
  24. Hum, I've been having some problems lately texturing two skirts I made. They both have the same problem. I want to apply the texture all around the skirt but I want the two white lines you see to pass along the the whole ends of the skirt, all around. I've done this before, but for some reason I can't get the baking to work properly. I've tried the coordinates both UV and Generated, with no sucess. Do I have to texture this manually in photoshop?
  25. Yeah, the default avatar is not very preatty to look at. For those who never seen it, here's the female default with no skin, in Blender: Those bumps were what was causing the horrible shadows around the nose. I made sure to polish my avatar a bit. Ok, so I will need a bit more modeling; I did stretch the face a little and it did improve, but I totally forgot to keep the nose size. *facepalm Not sure about the chin: is it better? I'm honestly not very good at topology; this was my first mesh avatar.
