    Missing lights?

Hello everyone! I'm enjoying myself discovering the wonderful world of rendering in cycles. XD But, I came across a little problem. I'm trying to texture this shirt with different colours and I got the lighting to bake properly in every one, except the black. Here's the red for comparison: The only thing I'm changing between these two is the colour of the material on the colour ramp node and the velvet BSDF. They're both the same sade of colour in the red and, in the black, the colour ramp has the black colour and the velvet BSDF has a light gray, for the effect. So, maybe I'm missing some sort of node to reflect the light?

    Missing Nodes

Lols!!! Don't throw me over to the developers pit, you cruel, cruel man! Also, since I have no rush, I suppose I'll wait until tomorow or friday for the final release to come out. Better safe than sorry.

    Missing Nodes

Wow 2.71 already has baking with cycles render? That's amazing. Thanks for the link; I'll try it out this evening. Also, I assume this version is still in testing? Is it stable? (as in, it's not gnna crash my PC in the middle of baking or rendering, right?)

    Missing Nodes

So I just learned the baking options haven't been implemented for cycle rendering yet. Is there a way for me to cheat the system and bake onto a UV map what I can see in the render panel with the cycles rendering? Because I managed to get it to look juuust like I wanted. ^.^

    Missing Nodes

Yes, I figured it out. I have to switch to cycles rendering and THEN I can actually get access to the nodes they show in the tutorials. They just forget to mention this at the beggining of the tutorials. Also, thanks for the links! I'll check them out right now. So, can you still bake the textures in cycles rending onto a UV map, to use in SL? Beacuse I did notice that the bake button on the world tab is now gone since I switched render modes.

    Missing Nodes

Hi everyone I'm trying to learn mode about nodes and render texturing in blender. I just updated to blender 2.7 and I noticed I can't really follow the tutorials anymore. I think they moved things in blender around a bit and I can no longer find the same nodes as the ones they show in tutorials. Namely, I was looking for texture nodes (noise texture, wave texture, etc) and shader nodes (BSDF, glossy, velvet, etc). Could anyone give me a hand? Here's one of the many tutorials I was watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvN3btmDBZM
  7. Hi there, Teanna. I use MD for clothesmaking for SL, so maybe I can give you a little hand. I actually do not use MD for texturing and I discourage against it, but I have seen creations in SL that did the direct transition from MD to SL. Again, this is really a choice of preferences. You CAN texture everything with Md, although I do not know the details of uploading the texture directly. Now, onto yours 2 questions: Question 1: Next to the seams bars there are 3 buttons for pattern adjustments. To add an image on top of a pattern texture, click the button with a red P on it (should be the second button). A window will pop up for you to select the image you want to add (will probably need to have a transparent background) and then just click ok. The image acts like a normal pattern, so if you want to move it or scale it, just click the Transform Pattern tool. Here is an example: Question 2 is more complicated. As it has been mentioned before, you need an additional program to makethe connection between MD and SL. There is no other way. I use Blender (it's free) and a lot of people here in forums use it too, so you can get plenty of help. You need to export your creation from MD as obj. and then import that obj. into blender. From there, you can finally export it to .collada, which is the file system SL uses for meshes. However, a word of warning. I will assume for a minute that since you're using MD, you're modeling clothing (although MD can be used to model many other things). If you ARE modeling clothing, you will need to learn about rigging. Rigging is the process of making mesh clothes move with the avatar. If you just upload, ofr example, a shirt from Md directly into SL, and then try to wear it on your avatar, it will be a stiff block. It won't bend. If you need more info on rigging, just ask.
  8. Hello everyone. I'd like to participate in the TGGS aniversary hunt. I learned about it from the SL Hunts website. So I went to the website that the blog had posted and I simply cannot find ANY information about the requirements to participate in the hunt. There's a sign-up sheet but it mentions a fee you have to pay and it doesn't mention things like limitations on the item for the hunt (does it have to be unisex, can it be an exclusive recolouring, only originals, etc?) I went to the place in SL and it's a gallery. A pretty one at that, but couldn't find any billboard or information about the hunt. I wanted to contact the owner of the gallery, but it is a Japanese person (so I'm not sure how good their english is) and in the profile, it mentions how often that person isn't online. So, I'm completely lost. Apperently, I'm the only one who can't spot the information, since there are already people signed up for the hunt, acording to the website. Any help? Here's the link to the website: http://thegallerygiftshop.wix.com/tggs
  9. Hi there. I wouldn't mind having a go at this. Do you have any deadlines? Also, I've never modeled for a child avatar, so I may need some measurements regarding your shape, so I can better fit the dress. Finally, do you want the dress to be all white or would you like a little texture on it? If you already have someone to build this, let me know.
  10. Here's a quick reference picture. http://gyazo.com/872dfaf00c5548ea0a0ee77971ea9f21
  11. I've also been playing with light effects. SL really has a great engine, when you figure out how to use it. Cutest picture I've ever taken in SL. EVAH!!! ^.^
  12. I want to add a lace texture to the edges of my mesh, for a nice effect. I have a simple texture that I made with some brushes: it's a simple horizontal strip with the bottom being straight and the top being wavy with the lacy pattern. Basically, if you were sowing, yo're sow the straight edge to the clothes. The texture has a transparent background and it's saves as PNG. I made a material for the part I want to be lace and then loaded up the texture. I changed the mapping to UV (the mesh is unwrapped) and the texture's multiplying by 4 times (X and Y axis). Nothing more. Clicked full render (I have a light setup) and it's simply not texturing right. Two things: first, it's not picking up the transparency at all; it's white background. Second, it's not following the Uv map properly. Any ideas?
  13. Thank you, Nalates. I'll write one.
  14. I went to the Cacha Fantasy fair a while back and was surprised to find a couple of stores and items that fit my style as well as my shop's: Classic lolita fashion. They were mainly acessories, like flower arrangements, but some stores played the "fairytale" and "storyteling" element as well. I talked a little around the fair and found out is was fairly normal to see these type of items at fantasy.-themed events. I always thought fantasy in SL mainly meant Medieval fantasy but now I can see how I could join these two together to go nicely. So I was wondering: could anyone tell me any groups or websites that advertise upcomming fantasy fairs (with a focus on creators, if possible). Or any groups for fantasy creators, somewhere they hang out together. Any info is welcomed. ^.^ I know this is a very big community in SL and I need to go slowly.
  15. I cannot script to save my life. Sorry, it's simply not my thing. But eventually comes a time when everyone in SL needs a script and I need one. Which I found. It's a slideshow script, since I want to have some fotos fade in a slideshow in my shop. I found a free open source script here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/TA-Slideshow-scripts/4542117 Now, there are two details I need your help with. After rezzing one of the example frames and putting textures inside it, I get an error that the script couldn't find the texture. It's a bunch of zeros. Secondly, for what I have in mind, I want the slideshow on only one face of the prim, not the entire prim. Is this possible? Can you write it for me?
  16. I've been having two problems with the SL viewer. The first one is that it's not loading or updating pictures in my profile. I have taken a couple of new pictures for my feed and when I go to my profile it says I have pictures being processed, but they never finnish getting processed and posted on the feed. This has been going for almost a month now. I also updated my profile picture around a month ago. While I can see the new picture when I go to my profile, if I go to a store that shows my picture at the entrance, it still shows my old picture. I want to be able to post new pictures on my feed and update my profile in SL. Seconf thing is with uploding animations. I should get a window that lets me set the priority of the animation, but instead, all I get is a small window to type in the name of the animation and the buttons Upload and Cancel at the bottom. Nothing else.

    Stencil Texturing

Yes! Got it!!! Thank you so much, Moose! ^.^

    Stencil Texturing

Not sure how to do the first one and I didn't understand the second option. Sorry. Could you be a little more specific? Here is a picture of some texturing I did with the mesh having more vertices (if this what you ment about the UV?): It's defenitely better, but not quite there yet... Still too pixalated

    Stencil Texturing

The idea is simple: I want to texture paint this golden stencil I made in photoshop onto this mesh. Here's what it looks like if I just paint this: Help? ^.^ I never used stencil before, but it seemed like a straightforward idea. I think I got the concept. But there must be some setting I need to change for the image to come out crisp. Can anyone offer some insight?
  20. I's also like to know more about getting involved with events and fairs. I have a new store in SL and I've really got to know how creators get together to make sale events.
  21. Fooling around with some inventory, old and new. Also trying to improve my photography (and failing?) Most of the items were free or super cheap. The dress is a Demo, The hair was from the Fantasy Gacha Fair (last day is tomorow, I think. GO GET THIS!!!), the shape, skin and makeup were all free or 1L, eyes were 10L I think and the headband was free. She looks adorable, right? ^.^
  22. Thank you so much for all your tips. They really helped! I made up a new environment for me with some lovely lighting and now SL even looks much better! As for photos, the light really makes things pop. I found the presets section which helped a lot! I love all the midday setting as well as the costal afternoon. Here's a new picture I just took: It looks so much better than what I used to take!!
  23. I am a newbie when it comes to SL photography. Or RL photography for that matter. XD So, please be patient when I ask something that may be way over my head. Ok, here goes: I want to know how to adjust lighting and shadows for SL photography to get a short of "airy" feel. I don't know how to describe it, it's a lighting technique I see all the time in good SL photography and it makes the photo realistic, pop out and not look just completely flat (like my pics XD). Here is an example I just found: http://yeriak.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/glam-dreams_002.png See the lighting? How it casts the shadows on the sofa, etc? I have no idea how they do that or if it's made inside SL or if it's a photoshop thing. Could someone give me a starting point? I'm honestly very curious how they manipulate light for SL photography.
  24. Answering your belt question, I recently made a ribbon that tied around the back (so it's sort of like a belt). I rigged it and made it fitted mesh. With avastar it's really so easy, why not? Now, since the material is supposed to be ribon, I don't think it looks odd having it move around a little as you walk around. It honestly didn't move much anyways. If it's a belt, made out of something like leather, I suppose it would took a bit odd. You can always rig it so it only reachs to one bone and make it kinda stiff all around. Still think the fitted mesh option is worth considering for betls, though.

    Quest for the Bow

I know what you mean: I've tried following the same steps as a bow in RL (I've actually made a few) but MD is just too stubborn to obey my commands. It goes a bit nuts when it has to simulate a piece of fabric tieing another. Actually, I DID find a tutorial on making a thin bow. The video has been deleted. Here's the link I found, just in case: http://beckjak.blogspot.pt/2013/03/make-ribbon.html?view=sidebar I's a shame, really.
