  1. Hello Everybody interesting debate this. Thanks for all the thoughtful comments. Of course there is a limit to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech ends where other peoples rights are harmed. Threatening, difamation or copy right infringments are just some examples. However, there is no justification for those criminal actions. As somebody else said before: in a civilized society you go your lawyer and sue the assumed ofender. Media (and I include bloggers in that categorie) are an important part of our society. Free media is one of the pillars of our democratic society hence an attack like this is an attack on our democratic values. Thats what I meant by: freedom of speech is not negotiable! Nobody who writes about things going on should need to do this under fear of death. I never thought about writing about the topic "religion in Second Life" . Now I will, just because I can and because je suis charlie!
  2. Hi, In addition: Your only option to have direct access to the blake sea is buying a parcel (or region) on mainland, which is conected to the blake sea. Check out the east coast of the Nautilus continent if there are any available. Attaching a private estate to any sim or region of the mainland is not possible. Property prices in the area are amoungst the most expensive in Second Life.
  3. From Siemens Media in Second Life to all our readers: Just to make clear where we stand: Freedom of Speech is not negotiable! Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
  4. Hey Aliana if you like sailing, join me on my trip for a section or tow. http://www.second-life-adventures.com/sailing-world/ Contact me Inworld
  5. I am curious about pursuing conversations regarding prejudice in America and I'd like different viewpoints from people who have experienced prejudice aimed at them as well as people who have realized that they have practiced prejudice against others. I know that many people think that there is no longer racism in America - but I disagree. Dana Most americans are suttle racists as their overal attitude is: There is two type of people in the world, americans and non-americans.
  6. Hi Clint I am interested, please get in touch inworld or mail , is this on eastern Nautilus? caroline@siemensnews.com Thanks

  8. Someone was kind enough to give me some Linden Dollars Hi The Lindendollar is convertable into real money, hence I suggest you treat it that way. If you beg for Linden Dollar you are essentially asking for real money. Not sure if that is what you want. In case you dont know this: You can add a credit Card to your account on secondlife.com and buy Linden Dollars yourself, alternativlelly you can get a job InWorld after you became familiar with the the viewer and the basic stuff. Just sayin
  9. And fingerboarding is pretty much like skateboarding, but instead of feet - You 're using tiny 96mm fingerboard and fingers to perform tricks. I used to skateboard before, for now this is filling my time. /me blushes No prices for guessing what I had in mind!
  10. Hi Lily I published in this blogpost a list of freebie blogs and places, there is lots of free stuff available http://www.second-life-adventures.com/i-am-pretty-now/
  11. Hello Elizabeth would you be interested in writing on a profit share basis? I place advertising on our sites to create revenues and I would share those revenues with you I am in the process to set up several Second Life related blogs. The next one is a Sl version of the people magazin. I would be very interested to have somebody work on the content. There should be at least one interview or article on the site each one at least 1000 words, well structured and with a clear and compelling call for action in order to initaite discussions on the blog. What you can expect from me: - The technical setup and hosting under the Siemens Marketing Group in Second Life - SEO and promotion of the site via Social Media chanels - An Inworld location for meetings and such (in the works) Just bear in mind it will take some time untill a new site ranks and generates revenues. Interested? The contact me Inworld or send email to: caroline@siemensnews.com Carol

I just did read on Twitter about new default avatars. Are they any better then the previous ones?
  13. Thanks Tari, Spica end entity, this is getting very constructive now. I was out and about yesterday. Went to some regions I know have stores there and lots of traffic. No stalls available, all rented out. Surprise surprise. So apart from adding value one also needs to actually FIND a store at a viable location. Other merchants did have the same idea already.

Because off this thread somebody contacted me offereing a shop for free, simply because if I promote my shop on my blog I automatically promote his region. A great win-win situation. I will visit the region today to see what market I deal with there and what products would suit them. The owner mentioned shoes, I am curious to see why is that Then finding an USP is top priority. Gods above you are doing this ass backwards. Picture this in the Real world... "I'm going to rent a store in this strip mall then figure out what i will sell." Correct would not work so well in the real world. But in SL, people go to certain regions for a reason. For example, if it would be one of those **bleep** sims, I would probably sell sex huds, lingerie, penises and so forth. If it was a formal jazz club then tuxedos, suits, shoes, gowns. On a Gor sim....hmmm, wait, maybe Gorean outfits and weapons? Makes sense?

  16. And how would one go about that as a full perm animation creator? Bloggers use poses to showcase their things, not animations? Syn first of all set up your own blog then find bloggers which write about stuff people do with your animations and have them link to your blog. So same system but different bloggers. Bloggers that write about building stuff for example.
  17. Anyone else with an opinion about malls?
  18. You could just ask here in the forums: 'Hey people, I have a blog, I want to earn money with it, please help me a bit: come and visit it.' But you preferred to pretend interest in a discussion/thoughts etc. As far as I know a blog is created for the readers and not predominately for the results of search engines! Ardvinna were did I pretend interest? I clearly stated why I am interested in getting a discussion on the blog going. It creates traffic, interest and better search result rankings. I (not you) made that very clear. I also stated that discussions do add value for the user as the user gets mutiple views on the topic not only mine. Adding value for users, gets repeat visitors (important ranking signal too), gets even better rankings, gets even more traffic, gets even more money. That the ultimate goal of such a blog is making some money, isn´t a secret either as the adverts are pretty clear to see for everybody (I hope so). So how much more honesty do you want? Want to see my tax registration number? My shoe size maybe? Yes, a blog is created for readers and search engines get those readers to come to the blog. That my blog is build predominatly for search engines is your assumption, possibly based on the fact that you dont like the blog much. Which is fine to me. But hey, I suggest you do something productive or something fun with your time instead of bashing/stalking me or are you the ethic police of the forum? The "blockwart" maybe? What about a new thread entitled "Caroline is Evil" were you can bash about me being a mean capitalist , search engine manipulator, a immoral **bleep**, the cause for ww3. I am off In-World looking for suitable shops now. Crowd Sourcing for such information doesnt work obviously.
  19. If you aren't planning on sticking with this, Did I say that? No, somebody else assumed that. If this becomes succesful, why tossing it? In addition I would not be doing it alone I have a partner in this. Still thinking about an USP though.
  20. Finally it happens! I always wanted to have a stalker. Preferbly a cute one! Are you cute Ardvinna?
  21. Syn look me up Inworld and I tell you a couple of things about bloging and why you should have one. I have a blog with about 10.000 views per month (but not really a fashion blog). Also you need to some PR to known fashion bloggers, so they show your stuff on their blog. There are some with really amazing traffic. Check out this one for example: http://juicybomb.com/. Last time I saw stats there were over 100.000 page views in a single month! Make sure she has something form your stuff (free of course). Then do a fun event specifically for bloggers, invite them personally, sell yourself to them its well worth it.
  22. By the way: anyone renting out shops on busy sims?
  23. Hi Yes, I just checked that myself and was surprised that they dont use it. Then I checked if I rank for all in anchor ( Caroline´s Noob Blog) and tataaa : Number one. That means the links do indeed flow pagerank and anchor text. Neverless it was not my intention, as I assumed they were clever enough to use the nofollow attribute. But I will not complain about it either and hope their webdevlopers dont read this here :-) This is actually very unusual and could be the reason for those hundreds of Linkspam postings. However, why are they not able to prevent automated linkspam? Its actually easy to do.
  24. Ok let me emballish a bit on the topic blogposts and Google rankings. Google has integrated a technology called "Panda" into their main search ranking algorythm. This technology basically is a "MLP" or machine learning process. The way it works is this: First so-called quality raters are given certain websites to evaluate their relevance to certain search terms. They evaluate the sites based on the "search quality guidelines" and put them into one out of seven categories from "vital" to "unratable". Then the software analyes the sites about what common pattern they have. After this the entire index is analysed and sites sharing the same pattern are put in the same category and ranked accordingly. The last step is analyzing the users behaviour on the sites (share, like, comments) to further fine tune the ranking and also to find common pattern in the users reaction to the content provided. This includes "sublemental content" such as comments, links to additional resources, likes, shares and reviews. The better the discussion and the more relevant towards the topic the better. In short: if you post on the forums, you add user generated content to secondlife.com not to any other site and you help them to increase their advertising revenues not mine. Their advertiser is the Google adsense programm and my advertiser is Linden Lab. I am actually promoting Second Life!! I am a Noob-Maker! However, another ranking criteria for sites are incomming links to a site. Hence one might suspect links posted to my blog here had the purpose of improving my rankings. This is definetly NOT the case. The reason being is simply that forum owners usually place the HTML rel="nofollow" attribute in the HTML source code to outgoing links in posts. This tells search engines NOT to follow and not to count the links for the purpose of evaluating the targeted website. In short: A link here does not influence my rankings at all. Hope his clearifies.
  25. *USP means Unique Selling Point, and is the special secret magic reason why someone would buy your goods over someone else's similar or identical goods. **Target market means the customer you are aiming at. ***Motivation means the reason you do something Thats the revenche for the retail explanation? :-) I know very well what an USP is, and I believe its actually the most critical part of the endevour I am about to start.
