I have an IMac, about 2 1/2 to 3 years old. I've been able to run SL on it well, but recently have not been able to load the updates to my viewer ( Firestorm.) and now getting on SL is becoming an issue. I'm worried that soon I wont be able to access it, since I can't download the latest browsers for whatever reason. I am curious if this is a known problem, or someone knows how to resolve it? Any advise would be helpful.

I've seen many stores selling various shapes, but I'm looking for something a little different. I want to create a very large woman for a roleplay project I am working on. She needs to be an amazon, so very muscular, also taller--maybe close to seven feet tall. I am also looking to make an older male avatar--someone looking more like Steve Buscemi than Brad Pitt. The majority of the avatars and very good looking and younger, so these are a little different. Any suggestions as to stores that might have something like this?

Kind of confused as to the attraction of Mesh. I just got my first outfit, took my avatar to a dance and everytime I moved one body part or another popped through--and I was wearing a alpha layer underneath! I used to play with poser, remembering this as an issue with that too. A lot of times clothing fell victim to pop through. I'm not sure if its poor collission detection, or just a phantom type nature of the mesh, but its not an improvement. My biggest concern now is all the mesh that seems to be flooding stores and the marketplace. Does that mean I'm going to be stuck with pop throuh from here on in? If so, not going to be a good thing.

You could go in many scores and get a prepaid visa card and use that. You buy it for cash, it has a number like a visa card, but dont need an actual card or bank account to use, MoneyPak is directly linked with paypal, you buy that and its cash right there to use for your paypal account--I got one and registered for paypal afterwards, didnt use my bank info at all. I'd say your best bet would be a reloadable visa card. You will have to wait til the real card comes in the mail--maybe a week or so..but then can use it on SL just like a normal credit card. I'm new to working with animations, but just did my first witn Qavinator. It seems the timeline is only for one second, but what if the animation needs to be longer? Is there a way to add more time? I'd imagine the animation I'm working on might last 10 seconds or so. Also, is there a way to add a second figure? Not so much to animate both at once, but as a reference point, since the animation will--hopefully--end up being a two person animation. I'm trying to make something using two people interaction in a fight, but obviously it would be easier to have them both on screen to coordinate this. A second issue regards facial animations. Obviously, being a fight related animation, can expressions be used in this program or does the avatar have the same expression all the time?

I think it might be computer related. I'm not an expert, but it looks like the latest update is requiring even more from computers. My settings went down a bit quality wise after the latest update, and my computers are pretty new. If your using an old computer you might be feeling it more. In the time I've been on this weekend the lag hasn't been any worst that I've noticed.

Still getting used to fraps, which seems to be a great way to record SL. One problem i'm having is changing the camera angles during filming. I use shift, alt and f1 (I think thats the combo) to get rid of all the icons, but in doing this the camera controls disappear. Now if i'm recording the video I can do some things with the arrows, but not to the extent I could with those controls. Are they other ways to change the camera angles being recorded without having the icons on screen?

I recently bought some prim feet, and they have been working fine, look so much better than the SL ones normally on my avatar. However, as of late there is a problem with the alpha layer. When I am wearing it, it blocks my upper body. I can see right thrugh my skin, as if there is nothing at all there...basically my eyes and hair. I'm not even sure the alpha layer is on the feet. Not sure why this is, or how to direct that layer to work on the feet rather than my head and chest. It worked fine before, just now its not. Any idea what might be the issue?

Thank you, I luckily was able to resolve the issue. I use the standard Linden issue viewer, and what solved this was looking for the HTML textures option and clicking it (I either clicked it on or off, opposite of what it was.) when I did this nothing changed. I went back, then noticed a Intentory Textures right under that. I did the same to that tab, and problem solved. I was wearing clothing from my inventory, so that must have been the answer. No longer blury, so life is good. Thanks for your help/

When I try to take a still image using Fraps, I'm supposed to hit the f10 key and the pic is taken, only for some odd reason the avatar suddenly leaps into the air and spins, kind of an insane balerina thing. Luckily it seems to take the picture before the it happens, but its kind of annoying watching it do this everytime I take a picture. Any idea why this is or what I can do to avoid it?

I noticed that my avatar seems a little blurry. Its really noticible if i'm on screen, maybe talking to another avatar. The other one is usually clear, especially clothing textures, while mine is duller, blured. I can usually fix it with a rebake of the textures, but then it goes back into blur pretty quickly. I was wondering if maybe its a setting I havent done properly or something. Anyone have any suggestions?

I originally used the LL viewer and, being used to the display and where things are located, find it really hard using Phoenix. I love the basic set up of the LL viewer--the easy access tabs on the side, the--IMO--much better camera set up, and the easy access to my landmarks and favorites that Phoenix seems to make such a hassle. I also hate the fact I have to x out messages in order to get the pop up screens to go away, when they normally disappear after a short time in LL. I know so many people rave over Phoenix--and, especially as of late, it does seem to be more stable. My questions is can I customize the set up of Phoenix to be more like the LL viewer? If I could change a few things I might actually use it, but as it stands now I can't bring myself to like it regardless of its improved stability.

This would be a fairly easy project IMO. There are any number of people in this forums familiar with recording SL via Fraps and other systems, and setting wise, avatars, props etc I don't think would pose great difficulty. If your stuck and no one else wants to help you I would be willing to offer what assistance I can, but there's likely people more experienced in this than I who could do as good or better a job. If your stuck IM me and I'm happy to talk to you about it.

When you first select an avatar, you are given a generic one with no actual skin. I mean, it has skin, but its got that ever present white underwear type thing. You can get a skin easily, some places have freebies, some rather inexpensive ones, some really costly. I've gotten some nice ones at TuTys (search for it, they have a store and sell skins starting about 300 L. I think they have some freebies available as well. There are other options available. If you go to Youtube they have some nice tutorials for new people. There are many here as well, in the knowledge base. A skin is pretty important, you can change shapes as well--so many options available for you to fine tune your avatar. Hi and welcome. Have fun.

I know most people use GIMP or Photoshop to create clothing in SL, just wondering if people also have used PaintShop Pro. To my knowledge is supposedly a pretty decent software and does layers and so forth, might be a iower cost alternative to the fairly costly Photoshop.

It was for me as well. Youtube and google will be good friends to you, as well as this website. I was lost at first, but once I learned my way around, viewing many helpful youtube videos, its been a blast.

I think my experience is pretty similar to yours. A friend invited me to SL, but when I first arrived I was a bit lost, the interface was tricky, and tbh I didn't really put much effort into learning it. I left almost right away, not giving SL a second thought until I was compelled to revisit it about six or seven months ago. I was lucky to meet someone who kind of explained things to me, introduced me to people and since then I'm addicted. IMO, the key thing is finding your interest, What do you like? Your passion--that is what makes SL so special. I really enjoy roleplaying, and have some interests, and working my way in roleplaying communities that relate to those have been what really makes SL tick. If, for example, your a STAR TREK fanatic, finding groups and sims strongly related to that and meeting others with the same interest would likely make or break SL. Not saying your a Trekkie, just giving an example. I enjoy pro wrestling, and meeting and mingling with people who genuinely enjoy it like me has made it so special. Being new take a little acclimation, but there is so much to see and do, and so many people around, sticking with it and pursing your interests here could be very rewarding.

I've been using Fraps just recently, and so far the software is really nice. Its easy to use and the quality is very good. I have two questions thought. maybe someone here is more familiar and might be able to help. When recording, I get the IM boxes, notices popping up, if i use the camera etc everyting is recorded. Is there a way to record just the picture, not all the pop up type boxes that clutter the screen? Also, file size is pretty massive. I was hoping to record and put it on Youtube, but recording a 60 minute roleplay type project i so GB intensive, is there some conversion I could make to convert the fraps video to a more space friendly amount? Any help would be appreciated.

If you read my post, I did not say SIM, I said HOMESTEAD. A Homestead is only 3750 prim, not 19000. If you are a land renter you would know that, and make any argument you want you will not be able to change facts. A sim is 19000 a week. A homestead 3750. Skybox property even less. My original post clearly stated any property, preferably sim SIZED (in square meters) or half sim SIZED (again square meters.) I even said sky property was fine since I did not need much in the way of prim, and know that often is available in lower prims. Honesty, no idea where you are coming from in any of this. Though I won't argue anything in the way of purchasing land. I dont want to go that route, as I'm not interested in that much of an investment and truthfully don't have a great deal of knowledge in land purchase or how that all works. I'm a renter, only interested in renting a property at this time.

Well, there are at least 4 ads for a full homestead 3750 prims for 6900 L a week, which shoots down your advice entirely. I won't waste time going back and forth with you on this, I am already renting a full sim SIZED skybox property with 975 some odd prim for 500 L a week. As for your remarks of no replies, I did get several IM's and rented a half sim sized property--an Island, not a skybox, for 3400 L a week with 2000 prim, again vastly less than your comments indicated. You have every right to your opinion, but I'd say your prices are the one thats out of whack. I know what I have and what I pay. I know the difference between a Homestead, a skybox and a full sim Mainland property. I'll just say you come off as someone simply trolling for a reaction. If your advice was sincere then I do appreciate it, but regardless I'm happy with what I rented and know it was a lot cheaper than 19000 L a week or purchasing for that sort of expense.

First off, I said sim-sized. I did not say renting a full sim. I used sim-sized rather than quote the actual square footage sized, which off the top of my head I'm not sure, some 64 K square meters I believe. It was only to designate the land space size (either sim sized or half sim sized. I thought it was pretty clear in reading it, not sure if it was misunderstood. I never mentioned setting up my own platform. Also, and as a land owner I'm sure your aware of this, you are basically paying for prim. Even if I were to rent a sim, I could go cheaper if I oped for a homestead (about 3750 prim) rather than a full 19000 something prim standard sim. Its pretty common to find a full homestead for about 7000 L a week. This, obviously a rental price, but its not $200 a month. The debate between "buy" and "rent", IMO, is irrelevent as this is posted in the "parcels for rent" board. I'm not looking to purchase, as I think it would likely wind up more costly. I have no problem with honest, correct and polite replies. Just snide, innaccurate ramblings.

It is a very low price. They are, understandibly, all rented.

Why would you assume I havent done any reading up on this? Regardless, I didn't say "purchase" the land, I said "rent." I am currently renting a full sim sized peice of skyland with 950 something prims for 500 L a week. If I were to purchase land in the mainland or an island or something, it may or may not come with 15000 prim ( a homestead would likely only be about 3750 prim) and would certainly not be as expensive as you say. Granted my current deal is a pretty nice one--especially due to the size--but you basically are paying related to the amount of prims you are using, and I only really need about 950 to 1000 for what I have in mind. So if anyone does rent skyland and has something larger (even half a sim size is ok) please IM me and hopefully we can deal.

I am looking for a large platform sky property, ideally sim sized or half sim sized. I only need between 1000 and 1300 prim or so, and as I said sky platform is fine. Prefer adult/mature zoning. Looking for something fairly inexpensive.
