  1. LepreKhaun, I don't know why you feel the need to be so pointlessly rude. Just because they posted a download link they shouldn't have doesn't invalidate their question. I've had experience texturing these objects, and have had this issue before, that's why I chose to comment. Also, I'm not sure how two additional messages classifies as Amethyst's message getting "drowned out." Anyways, OP if you still have issues feel free to IM me in-world and I can try to help.
  2. It looks like you're losing transparency and that's why the tail looks like a series of solid cones. You need to make sure that you have an alpha layer in the texture image you export. (.png is a safe bet I believe)
  3. Hiya, it sounds like you're wearing the complete avatar -and- the head too. If that's the case then you probably have multiple objects in your head position (the separate head + the head included in the full avatar). You could try looking at your worn objects (select the 'worn objects' tab or search (worn) in your inventory) and try to find the head object you don't want worn, right click and remove that object. In other words, it probably looks splotchy because there are two similar objects sharing the same spot since you can equip multiple objects to the same joint. Good luck!
  4. 1) Because my door is locked and they won't let me out, 184 hours a week. 2) I'm a trans-dimensional space-dolphin. 3) All 11. 4) Anything with bling scripts http://clearspace.s3.amazonaws.com/tnt/2243912049_0da9f6e78b.jpg
  5. Hey Venessa, I saw this program. I think it's used to make sculpts, but it has a unique method of making them. You might want to give it a try. http://www.archipelis.com/index.php @sylvie, Mesh is not a gimmick, in fact it can be much more efficient to render then sculpts by a large margin. I have been in mesh-heavy sims for a number of months with no discernible performance hit compared to just sculpts/prims. Also, you need a good connection for second life in general or you're going to see issues. This has nothing to do with mesh, it has to do with how SL fundamentally works. Please stop demonizing things you aren't willing to take the time to understand.
  6. You could try one of the "Lightweight" alternate viewers. Some of them are pretty limited though. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  7. Same here, especially normal mapping. 3d sculpting is super fun. :matte-motes-nerdy:
  8. Hey there, There is an open source project in progress to add materials to SL. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Tools-and-Technology/New-Open-Source-Project-to-Improve-Graphics-Rendering/ba-p/1637559 I've heard that custom joints have also been promised for some time in the future. My guess is that the material update will come sooner, possibly in tandem with the steam release. As far as I know there hasn't been any official dates set on the release of these things.
  9. In my opinion it's more based on how someone acts towards others, how they move through the world and their understanding of SL's social workings. Second to that would be their technical understanding of how things work in SL (building, animations, etc.) and how they appear. For example: Most people will give other avatars a equal amount of 'personal space' as is expected in their own RL. A 'noob' will typically go barreling into people and stand uncomfortably close. Most people have an AO with a variety of animations that represents the personality of their avatar. A 'noob' walks like their arms are wooden planks. Most people know how to carry a conversation. A 'noob' might say "sup" or "hi" and stare blankly. In my opinion Social grace and conversation skills > appearance and fancy skins/clothes. So I'd say you could not spend a dime and yet be an experienced resident in SL. But yeah, most of it is subjective. I try to avoid using the slang word and instead say "new resident" or refer to someone as being new to SL with the assumption they will eventually not be new, which seems to make sense to me.
  10. You could try averaging the normals on your geometry then exporting/uploading again. I'm not sure what the 3ds max equivalent is for that though, I use Maya.:matte-motes-stress:
  11. Hey Lila, Okay, that's fair. Thanks for the reply. It sounds like you have legitimate reasons, and in this context I totally understand. I suppose I'm a bit defensive since I've gotten the "Ew, weird." response from people who don't take the effort to get to know furries or try to understand. Our community is very diverse and it's sad when people paint us with such a broad brush. But I appreciate you taking the time to explain and I hope you have fun. (P.S. Are you sure having a transformer sis wouldn't be totally awesome?)
  12. Have you ever tried to relate to full time furs? :matte-motes-not-even:
  13. I remember an old sculpty program that let you draw a 2d image and it would turn it into a sculpty that had some 3d shape. Does anyone remember that? It made them look kind of like mylar balloons. EDIT: Oh hey, found it. You could give this a try this Vennesa, it's pretty straight forward and gives decent results: http://www.secondplopp.com/ If you would like any help with things I'd be happy to help out. You can reach me in-world at Mora Eldritch. Also, I apologize if I came off as slightly hostile in my original post, I hope you can find a creative outlet here that makes you happy.
  14. It's not super simple. Basically here's what you need to call an animation on someone. 1. The agent key of the target. (This can be returned by a few methods). llDetectedKey / llGetAgentList 2. Animation trigger permissions from the target agent. (This is what causes the permission window to pop up for the target). 3. Call the animation with llStartAnimation. I believe the way things like couple animators typically do it is they return a dialog list of avatars nearby, and you click the desired target for the animation. Permissions are then sent to the target and if they accept, the the animation is applied. You may want to do some searching around for an example script, or try to find an open-source animation script in-world. This is a useful site for SL scripting LSL_Portal
  15. When an object tries to apply an animation to your avatar, it requires you to accept the animation before it takes effect. This is to prevent people performing unwanted animations on you without your permission. If you see this popping up from a couple animator or another object, it's because that object is trying call an animation via script with you as the target. Many things do this so there's no need for alarm, just make sure the animation is from a trusted source before accepting. (Like from a friend or a danceball, not a random person running up trying to animate you.)
  16. Hmm. First of all, I'm not sure that you're correct that nobody wants to buy anything unless it's mesh. Second, I think that "My Problem with Mesh" might have been a more accurate thread title. Sure, I prefer mesh but I still buy things that are sculpts/prims, and I've seen the same from others. I prefer mesh because it is the "correct" way to create and manage 3d objects. The way most other games and 3d programs have been doing it for many years now. I'm sorry that your disability is hindering your ability to create the things that you desire. Creating 3d objects has always been a technical and fairly challenging thing. The iPad program you're talking about is a 2d program, which is why it can be simple in the way player's create objects. SL is a 3d and highly flexible environment. You can only simplify 3d creation so far without a considerable loss in the flexibility and power of the tools. Perhaps you could try learning to code objects? You can accomplish a lot with simply typing this way, and people often want certain scripts made. I have had friends who commission scripts all the time for pay. You could even make a self-building house with a script.
  17. A few things you might try if you haven't. - Make sure your graphic card driver is up to date. - Try using a different viewer to log in. I'd recommend firestorm if you're not already using it. http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ - Try using a text only or lite viewer that has inventory capabilities. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory - If you have an ATI card and can access the options menu, turn off VBOs (Vertex Buffer Objects) in the advanced graphics options. Good luck with getting it fixed.
  18. Hiya, I have an i7 with a slower processor, less ram and a slightly slower graphics card and my SL runs very well. So I would guess you'll have a good time of it. One thing I'd suggest if you want bells and whistles for SL is a SpaceNavigator. I've had a lot of fun with mine. (These let you flycam through sims etc.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826154008&name=Mice
  19. If you have an ATI card try turning off VBOs (Vertex Buffer Objects) in advanced graphics options. An example of what I'm talking about: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-13849?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Aall-tabpanel Having VBOs on with my ATI machine causes it to lag terribly and eventually crash/randomly lock.
  20. Well anyways, if you have an ATI card try turning off VBOs (Vertex Buffer Objects) in the advanced graphic options and see if you still experience these issues.
  21. I'm asking about the card because I've had serious issues with my ATI card in the past. Is it ATI?
