  1. Hey Luistache, welcome to SL. Hope you have a very fun time here!
  2. Bummer Well, good luck with the new model.
  3. So after some looking I found this page: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh_Limits_test#Maximum_Import_Model_Size_Test From page: Import Mesh Scale Limit Test The scale limit is set to 64 M Confirm a model cannot be imported exceeding 64 M on an axis. Confirm when setting the scale in the modifiers tab in the upload model dialog, entering a scale that will exceed this 64 on an axis will automatically adjust the scale value to the maximum allowed with an axis not exceeding 64 meter Maximum Mesh Scene Scale Limit Test The maximum dimensions of a mesh scene can only be 240m on a side. Larger than this will (as of viewer 3.0.0 (238864)) will frequently cause crash to desktop errors, or a notice that the mesh is larger than "256m" Release notes specified this change to fix a server issue, possibly will be corrected later? While the upload dialog does not specify a Z dimension, only X and Y dimensions, it does still check the Z axis for its overall length Seems a little strange that is says the import limit is 64m but the scale limit is 240m? Have you tried scaling the scene up after import? If that doesn't work though it seems that the limit is indeed 64m, sad days.
  4. Hmm, I do know that when exporting from Maya to SL there is a serious discrepancy with the unit scale. When exporting a weighted mesh I have to tweak this value by hand to have it import correctly. Does it downscale it to exactly 64m? If there is a client that supports temporary mesh upload you might want to try setting unit meter="1.0" for the heck of it to see if it effects anything.
  5. In my opinion the lack of RL pictures is due to the fact that SL typically garners complex relationships and creative activities. I would sooner compare IMVU to something like Facebook then to SL. I've played IMVU and it's much less a virtual world and much more a chat or meet-up program. (I'm not trying to crap on IMVU, it's just a much different experience.) People come to SL for many different reasons: RPing, creative expression, finding love, finding conversation, to attend church, escapist personification, to discover different kinds of music, games, people, art, to perform live music, to DJ a radio show, to create their own world, to create art in a collaborative environment that spans the world. So on and so forth. Some people have multiple avatars that personify different moods or different elements of their personality. Others partake in adult activities, different lifestyles or are part of subcultures they may otherwise not have if they were in RL. There are probably many reasons why most people don't include RL pictures but people my guess would be that people inherently don't want to be judged and want to feel free to do what they wish in SL without any possible RL ramifications. Other reasons may include: - They don't want you comparing their RL selves to their SL avatar. - They want to feel immersed in the SL experience and keep any RL elements removed. - They feel like having their RL picture up is a risk to their security. - They don't feel comfortable with how they appear. - Probably many more reasons, people are complicated. All of these reasons are legitimate, and even then people will usually share RL pics etc if they trust you. My opinion is: Let people share what they are comfortable with sharing and respect their choice. And if you want to share your RL pic, put it in the 1st life tab that way people can't complain because they're the ones who clicked it.
  6. Hey Gromlok, I'm not sure if there's a hard limit for that, but I suppose it makes sense. If you open the .dae file with a text program, you should be able to find a scale value. You could try tweaking this and seeing if that will allow you to get it bigger then 64m. I'll let you know if I find a workaround.
  7. If that doesn't work you could try deleting those edges so that the trouble faces are quads (Faces with four surrounding edges) then making a cut down the middle connecting the two remaining tris, this would result in all of them being quads.
  8. I'm pretty sure that it is your UV map getting a bit wonky from merging vertices. Check the UV map position of the faces where the white spot is showing and make sure it's positioned correctly. Once you've unwrapped an object, you want to avoid merging vertices, extruding or doing anything that will effect the topology of the object. This will mess with your UV map. Just moving or rotating the vertices should still be fine. What method did you use to unwrap the model initially?
  9. I'd assume it's because of client-side lag. Maybe ask a friend if they see you walking in place too? If they see it too the AO may not be set up right. (Like a walk animation being set as an idle animation, etc).
  10. Especially since the current default avatars are ripped straight from Poser. The base models are terrible. I would personally prefer fully integrated mesh features (including blend shapes and custom skeletons) since that would allow creation of high quality avatars of all types. It'd be hard for avatars made in this way to become the standard though, but people have been trying already and it looks pretty promising even with limited mesh. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/UTILIZATOR-Avatar-20-beta/2861916 I assume LL is busy pressing the SL steam release and graphic features that are supposed to come with it right now, but who knows.
  11. Hey there, I'm fairly certain that mesh does not currently support blend shapes or custom rigs. I believe some users have found ways to manipulate skin weighting to make certain effects with the default rig, but I'm not sure about the details. I have experimented with mesh skin weighting with the default rig along these lines, and it's very finicky. Blend shape and custom skeleton support is planned for the future I believe. You can currently download the default rig and weight a skin to it but you cannot modify the bones or it results in a mess. (Feel free to correct me if I'm off-base, I'm not 100% on this)
  12. Oh yes, how very profound of you. Parroting fairly offensive stereotypes in order to provoke a response you can conclude on, well done. I'll take my words elsewhere as to not divert this thread further.
  13. ...And some people like to make sweeping generalizations. Thanks for that. :matte-motes-not-entertained: You know some people can belong to a subculture and still mingle with other people and try to understand how they tick. Not everyone is stuck in their own ivory tower clueless to everything around them.
  14. @Fastrez, If you need any help getting in-world and setting up an avatar, I'd be happy to help. Send a PM my way if that's the case.
  15. I've been a resident with SL for over 7 years and I would be happy to answer some questions. However, I would prefer a method that didn't involve e-mails or twitter. Melita makes a very good point, especially since a person's avatar often says a great deal about them.
