  1. And I'm doing my best to change that. Non-roleplay related subjects should not get moved to the roleplay section. I'm trying to find a home for a largely participated in subject that has no place in any currently existing subforum.
  2. And I'll be damned if it ever is again. The past two groups that tried implementing roleplay back into their cultures failed because of it. Ceremonies, ranks, and themes are all there as either part of a genuine tradition, or for administrative structure. That funeral, for instance, was probably the best way they could honor the death of a friend, Especially for how massive Ordo was back then. Another example are Coercion's promotion ceremonies. Once or twice a month we sit people in the same hall and congratulate members who have assisted the group as a whole or proven that they could be useful in a higher position. The pageantry of it is part of the tradition of doing it year after year, not for the sake of feeding into a fantasy world.
  3. RP in the broadest real life sense means (my definition at least) to act as another person in a different situation. This is the definition I see the Lindens using to separate categories and subforums, but that is a very real-life definition, and so by all means the entire game can go into the role-play section. What I am trying to accomplish is to draw that line by ensuring that the definition of roleplay in games means: "RP means to act as another person in a different situation for the sake of playing pretend in a hypothetical environment and thickening a stories plot and/or character development." This ensures that not every community/sim in second life is a role-play community/sim, and narrows it down to only the people that are in fact playing roles. is that a simple enough way to put it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WITH THAT SAID -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Combat groups don't make characters, They don't thicken a plot, they don't play pretend, and they don't act like another person in a different situation. Everybody in the SLMC at least is just playing a video game chatting with friends, earning weapons and fighting other people doing the same thing. The way Ghost was talking, Tulagi (the largest VICE sim) is the same way. It's just an arena where people buy weapons, and fight each other with them. It is also not fit to go into the Games section because Combat, like role-play is an activity that people do in many communities. It is not a specific game. It is possible for specific games to involve combat, but there are very few that do. Those few could post in the Games section and stay accurate.
  4. *bad salesperson* I'm not selling anything other than trying to push for a combat subforum. This thread isn't to sell people on any community, only to try and make it so we're not left out like we have been for a long time. As for your complaints on structure, I'm flattered that you wanted me to give you a tour however, we have a system for when somebody is busy, and we direct them to the next person. There is always somebody online who will give a tour, and I haven't been around. I'm sorry I had class, but RLB4SL. *second life isn't a game* SL is a first-person shooter with cool things for me, and only that for many many people that do combat. I suggest you go outside, go to a bar or a coffee shop and meet people. If your life is so out of order that second life is a drug-like escape from reality for you, fix your life first, don't make a new one, and only look back because it's fun. *you're narrow-minded* I know. *you don't know how to use the internet* Ok lol. *Have you been to Zindra* I'll check it out when I get the time. Haven't been able to log in much recently. From the way you describe it, it seems neat enough to take a look at. *You need to explore SL more* My job is recruiting, meshing and administration in the CC. I get out plenty, but I tend to only pop in and out of places where I have a better chance of finding people interested in combat. I've been almost everywhere at least once, I don't always like what I see, and I tend to be very opinionated and biased. Of course, the best I can do to prove that to you is to say "I get out plenty." So take with it what you will. I am not the best person to speak with the combat communities, and I am fully aware there are much more pleasant people to have this discussion with. You can ask anybody in the SLMC and they'll say I'm an irredeemable ass but my biases come from experience, and I tend to 'scorch the earth' with communities whenever I see a bad example. The reason you may not see me around all of the family RP, or city RP is because i have a tendency of getting banned. Not ever because I did anything wrong, but because I look like this: I'm the guy on the left, and I tend to get dismissed as a griefer immediately for my appearance in places like where you may describe. It happens countless times to many people in the SLMC, so I really just kinda stopped trying to go places like that. We're not here to talk about how awful Kobi is. Everybody already knows it. Why shouldn't there be a combat subforum when roleplay gets one? Try to respond to that prompt only. If you want to voice how terrible of a person I am, please do so in my IM's so I can add it to my collection. If it's not on topic, It doesn't belong here. A good portion of us including me are guilty of this so let's not point figers because that's dumb.
  5. edited, my bad. misread as angry sh*tposting
  6. Edit: re-read it, removed gif, expected witty angry twistings of text since that's all I've been getting the past week My B. Not exactly. The culture of the SLMC is full of insensitive comedy for the sake of being edgy. Similar I'd imagine for other combat communities since they typically have retired SLMC combatants. The people outside the SLMC usually aren't able to handle certain taboo subjects being brought up in jest. And on top of it all, the game is absolutely full of people who love to play 'victim' and the SLMC usually enjoys messing with those people. SLMC just generally enjoys having fun at any cost. As for the communities, if you added up all the combat sims, and all the clubbing sims, and all the roleplay sims. we may only amount up to only a portion of the activity of the smut sims. This is why I imagine they recently added an entire continent dedicated to adult activities, (the activity there is booming btw). The game has embraced it, and I've found it difficult to bring it up in discussion, so when people ask me what games I play, I don't even mention SL much anymore unless I have somebody asking about a mesh project I'm working on. As for the "i wanna join YOUR combat" thing. its not really like that.. the SLMC is many groups, each with their own development teams, administration, sims, themes, and cultures. But the combat is standard between the groups.
  7. I tutor up at a college for meshing, so the opportunity to tell people about second life comes more often than most, however, this game has built up a stigma amongst almost all gamers as "The pedophile game" or "The game with the furry people in it" or one of the more recent ones I've heard was "That scat fetish game." However once in a blue moon, there is the one person who's not ever heard of it, and I get to tell them all the cool things you could possibly do, but I always make it a point to never touch this game because 90% of it is smut. Not everybody outside this game is willing to quite literally wade through furry smut, *****, and feces before they find the gold. This game has no positive PR, and as a result is very difficult to advertise in a good light. I'm sure this community has tried hundreds of times to create positive PR, however, the truth of it all is most of this game is for interactive porn, and that is usually their first perspective of it. Edit: ayy pageking
  8. recruit outside of sl - "Woah this looks cool, what game is it?" - "S...Second...Life" - "The one where people religiously have dog sex?" - "Yeah... that's the one" make a general discussion thread - I would, and have tried but so far all attempts at it have gotten moved to the roleplay subforum which has attracted some unwanteds. I've got a group of officers and leaders from varying communities who would be willing to attend one of those friday in-world discussions that happen every other week. I hope it works, as it could mean a lot of change in the coming future positively for the combat communities.
  9. We do, however when a large force of people show up at a sim all at once matching armor, we tend to get banned because everybody assumes the worst. plus not everybody in the SLMC knows how to behave outside of our own little bubble (me included) people tend to get offended way easier outside of the SLMC sims, while the people who've been in the SLMC for years on years have already heard everything and been desensitized to things that people would otherwise see as off-colored, see certain things as griefing etc. so having a normal chat isn't always successful. on top of all that, recruiting for another sim in another sim tends to not ever be allowed (never stopped me, but that's why they gave people land powers I'm assuming) At any rate, we take what we can get. Exposing individual groups isn't the goal, though. Exposing communities and having an administrated forum where people can discuss, compare, and contrast the similarities and differences between how people, where people, what people, and why people choose to fight in SL, as opposed to... clubbing, roleplay or furry BDSM.
  10. Q: "Why not put combat discussion in 'games'?" A: - Same reason roleplay isn't in 'games' Q: "Is it possible to make themes look less roleplay-ish" A: - The reason it might look "roleplay-ish" is that each faction's appearance follows a theme. Each theme is an offshoot of the military's previous incarnation (of course not required, but that is what happens almost every time.) Each group's theme and appearance can be dated all the way back to their first instance of being a group. My best and favorite example is the Coercion Combine's (or CC for short) theme. The 'CC' is what came of a small militia call coalition of the order (CO, abbreviations of groups are widely memorized in our community) CO was made as an effort of reliving the glory days from when a group called "Black Talon" (Known only as Black Talon, no abbreviation) was around in 2005. Black Talon was started by a kid named Exuvae Hykova. He wanted to make a space knights group. As a result, every group that splintered off from it has inherited its theme. CC is space knights, CO was space knights, Valix can easily still be space knights, and the less mentioned 7th is space knights. Even groups that Strived to be offshoots of offshoots of Black Talon look like them (All Hallows). The reason it seems "roleplay-ish" is because traditions are followed, and history is kept and told. Q: "Why isn't it very user-friendly? Or easy to get into?" A: - Because groups are competitive and only want people who will fit in, and be a good addition to their team against the other factions. This is why we have 'training'. So we can make sure that people know what they're doing, won't break any rules that will make the group look bad, Know how to use our gear and will get along nicely with everybody. Almost all of our administrative staff in CC have met up IRL, and recently we've been doing annual meetups and flying out to see each other to get really really drunk and shoot very big guns. This is how close our members are, and this is how close we want new additions to be. The reason it's difficult to get into a faction is to filter out those who won't fit in. Q: "Can you make it more Game-Like?" A: - Already did, however, the access is only for members of the CC and as far as I know we're the only group that has anything like this in the combat community. We have a table crafting system, many NPCs that drop varying crafting materials and currency, some drop rare weapons, and rare custom armors. There's more and definitely enough to be able to advertise in the 'game' section, however, we're the only combat group that has that capability (unless you want to call zombie shooters combat, then they can too) Q: "What can you do about the stigma of looking like a roleplay group?" A: - Unfortunately the only thing we could do is post in combat subforums to differentiate ourselves. The only thing we can do right now until we get a combat subforum is this: WE ARE NOT A ROLEPLAY GROUP If we have a place to post for combat and not roleplay, people won't look at it from the surface as an RP group. It's all context, and the context is implied by what subforum the thread lies in. If I posted combat stuff in the metaphorical "furry BDSM" subforum, people would assume there would be some animalistic sideways virtual hankey-pankey going on in the combat sims, and you can be sure that you'd see marsupials with nipple clamps in our spawn areas the next day.
  11. because we've been not roleplaying for the past decade and a half. If somebody came up to you while you were... idk dancing, or clubbing or something, and told you that you were engaging in some pretty hardcore furry BDSM, and you weren't. You'd, of course, deny it. Now imagine your reaction when not only have you been denying said hardcore furry BDSM accusations for over a decade, but all conversations involving your dancing and clubbing get moved to the hardcore furry BDSM section of the forums. That is why we get testy. Edit: Now imagine opening your own clubbing and dancing sim, and advertising or talking about how much work you've put into your dancing and clubbing sim, and you sit waiting for some wonderful dancers and clubbers. But instead, you have two pink furries in gimp suits whipping one another on the floor, and in the corner, you have a horse-man wearing a leather police officer outfit burning cigarette butts into a border collie. You do your best to tell them not to do this sort of thing in your club, but then they get annoyed because that's where they found your sim... in the Hardcore furry BDSM subforum. This is how we see the situation, and it for some is just as embarrassing to watch as two schnauzers gangbanging an oiled up dolphin. This is why we get testy
  12. sorry, i've been getting notifications out the waazoo recently. musta gotten lost in the ocean. I'm in class right now, but i'm sure somebody is on base that can help you out
  13. good thing none of those are in SL combat. At least in the slmc when an officer asks somebody to do something, it isn't for playing roles ever. It is entirely for the betterment and survival of the group. even in VICE, Officers are there primarily to administrate, and make sure everything runs smoothly, and people are following directions
  14. see i've never even heard of lance. is there a sim i can visit? if only they had a place to post.
  15. In real life let's say. you go to work as an accountant, you sit at your desk sh*tposting on he secondlife forums when you're manager comes up behind your cuticle and tells you to get back on task, and begins lecturing you on how everybody in the office "has a role to play" I feel like you're grasping at straws and bending words for the sake of argument. I appreciate the attention and all, but a better argument than "sl is not an FPS" when SL is what you make of it would be appreciated. Even so, very early on people chose to use their unlimited freedom in this game to shoot each other. As a result, it manifested into an FPS.
  16. most sims don't have safe areas ^^ alot of combat places that use llcs keep the spawns open with damage on just in case some brutal administration needs to occur. A movement called "bombs not bans" started this where instead of banning or kicking individuals, we started either nuking spawnpoints and blackscreening. Education can start in combat section ^^
  17. Because it is the largest example, and one of the oldest communities in SL. Some would argue it is the oldest standing community. I understand the frustration, however when you're shooting NPC zombies for points, you make of it what you will. The combat subforum would be used for discussing, advertising, educating, and debating different aspects of combat in SL. Combat in this sense being defined as shooting at each other for the sake of fun and competition, and not for playing roles. also you weren't booted. you stood there discussing what you were doing with gun in hand when you shouldn't have been roleplaying, you should have been doing combat. as a result, you died while you were busy typing. When you die in LLCS enabled sims, you get teleported back home. You might have been educated about this if we had a combat subforum.
  18. ikr. one of the Vaelkyr leaders was saying "she was beaten at a game once." I chortled
  19. angery. i enjoy the feedback, however, I'm going to continue by gaining the support of my community, and other communities that wish for it to happen. The "you don't have a clue" door goes both ways and unfortunately that is entirely our fault as a community for lying dormant for over 10 years.
  20. of course there are lol. any sim can allow sex and have it be enormous the next day.
  21. 2/3rds don't agree with genesis and aren't in it. The 2/3rds missing from it can be found in the fray ^^ as for the people not jumping in on this thread, the SLMC doesn't like reaching out to the rest of SL and only very seldom even leaves our own sim network. getting more than one military to agree on anything takes a lot of work.
  22. You seem to call it insulting *I can see how that can be insinuated, however, 'insulting' is the wrong word. 'Inefficient' is the correct one. Yes we could allow every tom, dick, and harry to come in and roleplay after they get through our initiative training. But that would make the group much slower in combat, could cause all sorts of drama issues (has in the past, ask me for examples in IMs cuz they are long stories) but more importantly it would separate factions into two separate groups; RP/Non-RP. it's not healthy for the morale of a group to have cliques within it (again if you want examples, I've got countless)* *as for individuals who don't RP, but do combat. Here's only a small portion of active members i have access to look at. Pay attention here because this is where I show you how massive the non-rp combat community is. This here is project genesis, a group created in a futile attempt at administrating the SLMC. a good 2/3rds of the people in the SLMC don't agree with its policies and aren't in the group out of protest. The missing 2/3rds can be found in a group called "The Fray" which has been the main group for SLMC 'sh*tposting' since 2011. Image provided by Darksleepur <3 As you can see it is much larger. This is also just a portion of active SLMC activity. The rest can be found in SLMN. Of course, these groups have some spillover and people are in both (Much less so for the fray-genesis since they are more or less a political stance directly against each other) This group was made to ensure that everybody could have notice rights to anybody that does combat in SL (yes, it gets spammy. yes it gets abused) however it is one of the main groups. even with all of these, there are people who choose to not be apart of ANY of these groups. Those lists can be found in the countless 'spawn groups' of each individual sim (too many to count) Even so, this is just the SLMC (People who don't RP, and just shoot people) NOT COUNTING OTHER COMMUNITIES I'm sure I can find thousands more if I went to GOR and asked around if people were there for the combat. I also know that a good portion of VICE are retired SLMC combatants just there for their fix. I think I just pointed out "way more folks than you think" there, buddy. at any rate, the SLMC definitely does cover most of all combat in SL (without roleplay mind you) but that is also because it is the original, and oldest form of all combat in SL. I know it is hard to understand that this massive community has been here hiding away, but that's because We usually don't reach out to the rest of the game because it's rather... unusual (don't argue it, you know it's true) I'd get more officers, and leaders of other factions to post on the forums in an attempt to show you that SL is actually probably half RP, and half combat only but there are many variables that get in the way of that. but again, that is JUST the SLMC, not counting GOR, VICE or the others (too many to list) I'm certain there are some I don't even know of.
  23. Then, by all means, this entire game can go into the roleplay section. It's a fair argument, however, when a child screams over call of duty saying they had consensual coitus with various people's mother's, it's not RP. That is more or less how the SLMC works. our themes are more or less in this metaphor the same choice of theme call of duty would pick (WWII, modern, sci-fi or whatever) as for our rank structures, we have rank structures so our armies don't crumble due to drama usually caused by furries, not so people can live out their fantasies of being a leader of a military. We administrate where needed, and the leaders make sure nobody is upset during raids. they always make sure sim tier is plentiful, on time, our R&D moves smoothly. The reason we have training is so we make sure we test people's patience to the fullest extent before letting them in. We don't want anybody who will be upset during raids or will cause issues with other members. each faction in a sense is a clique that people try out for, and each of those cliques fights each other. I have to remind everybody again that this thread isn't just about the SLMC. but yes the SLMC has kind of kept to itself for the past decade or so very very seldom posting on forums or even leaving our own sim network. I completely understand that it might seem a little far-fetched for this community to have been here as long as it has without anybody talking about it which may make it seem like the massive history was made up for the sake of playing roles. The game is seemingly shrinking, so I am posting, and people are very skeptical in the community over how much posting in the forums will change anything. Plus getting the factions to agree on something is a near impossible feat.
  24. I tend to use the SLMC as one example (even though it's absolutely full of other smaller examples) because that's where I'm from and know the most about. I do my best to bring up the others in conversation, however, I'm not as well versed in their cultures. Clubbing would be a useful subforum, and DJing would go under it as separate threads. Its a very large portion of SL, and many people could discuss all sorts of crazy stuff in there I bet. I could also respond to that with "Why does roleplaying get a subforum?" I never understood modeling agencies, as most people can just buy one avatar, spruce it up, and take pictures of themselves. plus that definitely fits under the umbrella of photography. I don't know enough about the process to make any statements.
