  1. I mean probably lol. I'd be rather disappointed that I've been posting here for around 2 weeks and haven't gotten any answers yet.
  2. I'm not pretending to be something for fun. I'm doing something for fun. This isnt about the community i'm in as i've stated multiple times. i'd be selfish to think the community i'm apart of alone deserves a combat forum. Most popular sims with the largest amounts of traffic involve Combat, RP, or Sex. It'd be futile to try and list every community that involved combat because the amount of them are massive.
  3. none of my questions have actually been answered. The only thing Tommy cleared up was that one of my posts was in the wrong place, and combat isn't roleplay. Idk maybe if I phrase it differently I'll get an answer. Why does roleplay get a subforum, when combat is the other side of the same coin? - possible answer: because combat isn't posted about often enough to merit one - in which my response would be: Because we haven’t needed it in the past. Communities up to this point have mostly relied on people within their communities to stick around, join other sims, try other sims out etc… but within their communities. The Goreans are a good example of this. With time that has thinned out, and advertisement and exposure has only just this last year become a priority for different communities. On top of that we’re misrepresented, and have no place to post. I’m certain a subforum would explode with input from all sorts of communities if one were to be put in. Why haven’t people tried before? Because they are certain they’d get the resistance I’m currently facing. What comes after that would be new information and i'm willing to bet would get dodged, or ignored. Edit: ayy pageking again.
  4. Glad that we cleared that combat isn't roleplay. First issue down The second issue is lol that's still not the right place. I'd say 'games' is the incorrect section for the same reason the roleplay posts aren't put in the 'games' section. Roleplay of many forms is an activity that many sims take part in, just as Combat of many different forms is an activity that takes place in just as many sims. So the question is now, Why favor roleplay over combat?
  5. ofc it's their rules silly. Those rules are in place for a reason. That is because in those sections there is enough contrast of subjects and discussions to merit a separate section. The rules are "be nice, and post in the proper place" The issue lies when there is a massive percentage of the game's community that has no "proper place" to post subjects. The contrast in subjects is there. It's palpable when you try to talk about combat anywhere in this forum currently. The issue has a simple fix, and as Ghost Menjou stated would even take no time, effort, or even server impact to fix. All that is left to see is if the Lindens are willing to (quite literally) lift a finger for their players.
  6. bah just block me then. Thanks for the discussion ^^
  7. So then why aren't posts that are in "general discussion" or "places and events" or even "make friends" under the roleplay section?
  8. it does. you can unsubscribe from it ^^ That box at the bottom that says "notify me of replies" should do the trick. If it doesn't then that is a good suggestion. There should also be a way to mute me entirely. I'd imagine that would mute all content related to my posting including this thread ^^
  9. I did a post on joining an SLMC group which involved what items, and skills were required. It was moved from general discussion into roleplay when the post doesn't involve roleplay in the slightest. Not a single group in the community the post is related to does any sort of roleplay. I understand the last thing you all want is to show that somebody who posted on the forums asked for a combat subforum, and ended up getting one. The slippery slope begins from there. But the truth of the matter is nobody knows where to put our posts because combat people usually haven't posted here before. I'm entirely sure that is because we're misrepresented and actually have nowhere to post. The question I'm wanting the answer to is why the activity of roleplay is represented when combat (arguably an equally popular activity) is spread amongst the forums in places where "this looks like it maybe possibly could fit here, but I'm not quite certain." I'm looking forward to seeing some of my posts, and hundreds of other's posts about combat in the Second Life Combat Subforum™ as well ^^
  10. While I definitely understand the concern, I do feel that a combat subforum would be that last piece this forum needs to have a home for every subject. The slippery slope argument is definitely a concern which I understand the gravity. Combat is done just as much as roleplay is, and the issue is more about the type of exposure roleplay sims get due to their special treatment with a subforum. I do think roleplay definitely deserves its own subject, however, combat is done just as much, and I feel has just as much. Let me give you an example here. If I wanted to talk about the benefits of using raycasted explosion grenades over using standard prim explosion and tie it in with the different groups that use raycasted vs non-raycasted, and then wanted input from the VICE sims on how they deal their explosive damage. That wouldn't go in favorite destinations, gaming, roleplay, or anything that currently exists. Matter of fact i'm confident it would get moved to the roleplay section if i were to post it anywhere. If I wanted to make an instructional post on primjumping (the practice of moving to gain height advantages, some people call it prim parkour) and explain how imperative it is that everybody practice this before doing combat in SL, it'd get moved somewhere it gets misrepresented. These types of conversations are incredibly common, and usually, people put a lot of weight into subjects like this. Not only is it important for these conversations to be moderated, and public to avoid escelation (things do get heated), but each post acts as a sort of exposure for their respective communities. I feel the game would expand if it had a more public face towards combat just as they do for RP. "if we made a subforum for every community" I agree, however, 'combat' isn't a community just as 'roleplay' isn't a community. It is an activity that is widely participated in. Even in RP. Almost all activities (aside from the obvious) have some form of combat, and I think it's high time that activity has its own place to discuss. Thanks for taking the time to respond, I know you didn't have to ^^
  11. So Call of Duty is a roleplay game because you aren't a trigger happy soldier IRL? sorry, but the logic is broken. By that thinking, EVERYTHING IN EVERY GAME EVER is roleplay. There is a difference between roles, and themes and you seem to have gotten them mixed up along the way. I know this is difficult for you to grasp, but you are getting those definitions mixed up that I was talking about earlier. Roleplay is acting as a character for the sake of pushing a fictional story forward or developing a character. In a lot of cases in SL, I've noticed people will roleplay as a version of themselves they wish they were IRL. This complicates it and blurs the lines. This, however, is not the case for anybody in our community. In other combat sims at least, there is combat, then roleplay. I implore you to watch that video that I posted earlier and tell me where you spot examples of people acting as their avatars (that isn't for the sake of comedic value... it is chaos indivism after all) Perhaps we can clear this up, and reach an understanding.
  12. For those of you still confused about how none of us in certain combat groups roleplay, I encourage all of you to watch one of Chaos Indivism's streams as they are examples of how combat is done, and what people act like when fighting in VICE sims, and SLMC sims. You're there to kill people, not feed a character plot. This video should explain why we want combat to be separated entirely from roleplay, and should clear some things up on how we see, and treat SL. Like a game. I understand that people treating this game like a game can be an upsetting subject for some. Hearing that we're not here to escape or live an alternate life that is more exciting than our own real lives, but rather to just have fun and make stuff can be a very challenging thing to wrap your head around. But I implore you to try it out as it is quite liberating. I won't be touching on why the SLMC and various combat communities don't RP any further, as the Lindens have corrected the issue, and spread our threads to OTHER various incorrect subforums. It'd be beating a dead horse if I were to continue
  13. ... i don't quite understand are you guys always 'in character' of sorts? Cuz we don't even do that lol... That would slow you down and distract you from actually killing anything. You'd be more focused on making 'your character' look cool than actually competitively getting kills.
  14. thats roleplay though... we don't roleplay... or have porches... or even houses for that matter... also nothing can burn down... lol. go to any sim, and fly around and shoot your flamethrower at anything and everything. you'll find that nothing 'burns down' and your fire particles are attached to a temporary prim that should disappear after a moment.
  15. Sounds fun, should pop by HERE , and test it out. Our guys are defending against SH right now, but you are welcome to join the fight. The OIC defense will probably ask that you stick with escalation though. A flamethrower coming in could complicate things with the current raid. Unless SH has already escalated to flamethrowers. but you do you. Just don't get upset when you teleport home because you died. Make sure you know how to set your home in the spawn, and join the according landgroups ^^ have fun I also don't know how many time's I've said this already but here goes again~ Ranks and positions aren't for the sake of playing roles, they are for organization and administration. In a raid, there are two OICs (Officer in command) OIC Attacker, and OIC Defender. Both are in constant communication with each other and their respective teams. They make sure the raid goes smoothly and people are following rules. An OIC isn't a rank, it is an appointed responsibility usually decided by whoever is the highest rank online. Ranks are determined by how much the owners of the group think you can represent the group's decisions properly in situations when the owners aren't online or are busy. They are positions of trust and are usually earned over the course of many years of being in the group. As for the function of a flamethrower relative to it's skill use i'd have to disagree. A flamethrower in SL typically spits out large balls of damage prims that either roll, or stick to the surface it's shot at via raycast, or physical projectiles. An average size for a flamethrower's damage prim is around 2-3 meters diameter spat out just fast enough to make it look like a particle stream. So maybe 5-600 RPM. An assault rifle requires more aiming capabilities, and doesn't act as an AOE. You are required to be a bit more precise with your shots with a rifle. As for "being careful not to burn everything down." You can't... prims don't burn down, and it would be stupid for a sim build to be able to burn down at the request of a flamethrower. Maybe in certain roleplay sims there could be scripted fire that burns down scripted buildings, but that is not the case, nor has, or ever will be the case in the SLMC.
  16. in combat, there is no provoking (maybe in roleplay sims where combat is balanced in). just having a gun in a place where other people on other teams have different but similar guns. Being in a sim means you're there to fight. Typically people will step forward and agree to use the same tier weapons that you are. I'll create a guide and an instructional video on how the SLMC does its fighting eventually, but recently things have been crazy IRL. So in your situation let's say you came onto Coercion's base with a flamethrower. Your best option would be to burn everybody in different armor than yours because they will be coming after you. Say after a while of them pot shot you with pistols, you start to get better with the flamethrower. After a while, an officer or 'OIC' will give the order to even out escalation. This means that they will be allowed to use whatever you're using. In our case, the even escalation for a flamethrower is usually our 'Ice Cannon'. This evens out the fight and both parties are forced to rely on their skills rather than their weapons. (if there is any skill involved in a flamethrower really) ^ ^ ^ image of the ever so feared ice cannon ^ ^ ^
  17. I doubt it will just be simply "no" and they'll have some reasoning such as "the game wasn't made for it" or "if we let you guys have one, other people will want one" etc. The Lindens do try to satisfy customers, and "no" would be a very immature response. But for devil's advocate if they WERE to say "no" i'd digress with no other choice other than to ask, "can we get a reason?" I'm sure from that point it'd fizzle out.
  18. I wouldn't say 'argue' but they may have some concerns regarding it.
  19. "Why post here, and not in a place where people can do something?" - Publicity of the issue, and feeling around to see what kind of arguments I'll run into when speaking with somebody who CAN do something. "These people need a better representative." - I completely agree, who's going to step up? "Rules lol." - That's a prompt, silly goose. A clear solution people can discuss, support, or argue.
  20. Good, with our definitions straightened out, the discussion can continue. The combat communities deserve a subforum just as much as the RP communities do. ^^^ there's your prompt ^^^
  21. Texas born and bred. I'm embarrassed to have been corrected.
  22. If I could go back and edit the initial post I would. Also fun fact, every mesh you see in those videos was scripted, meshed and concepted originally by and for the respective members of each faction. (Everything is free) First video you'll see Chaos indivism: Content creators include, Hadet Sonnenkern, Dread Hudson, Tyro Gutter, SaeraSong (prolly missing some) First video about an hour in, you'll see them fighting CDF: Imploding scientist meshes, for the most part, varying scripters Second video is of the Alliance Navy: Content creators are Vaughn Vendetta, JDB, Cozmo, Radeur NG, Sufferot (Prolly missing some) Fighting the Coercion Combine: Content creators are Adonis Cobalt, Alaskan Flamingo, Parx Oran (Kobi), Wulfravenheart, JDB, Cozmo, Burnha firehawk, Kion, Berc, Nicole zarco, Decrypted, Zechi, TJ Cattaneo, AI Fallen, and a couple more. I am certain I'll get yelled at for forgetting one or two in Discord. Just thought I'd Credit the creators best I can. We've been working for years to get where we are and will continue working for many years to come. Thanks for taking notice.
  23. Combat is an activity people do Roleplay is an activity people do Roleplaying combat looks like this: /me unholsters their revolver, reloads the drum swiftly, and lines up the sights just right so that the barrel is ever so perfectly facing the back of their head. (Dice roll for effectiveness or what have you) Combat looks like this: Or this:
  24. CC is the widely used short abbreviation for the SLMC faction I, and a few others, are representing. The reason I quoted you is because i hit the quote button, and didn't know how to keep it from quoting because I no longer wanted to quote you.
  25. THIS JUST IN, THE LINDENS HAVE REMOVED AT LEAST THE CC'S THREADS FROM THE ROLEPLAY SECTION So small victory yay~ but there should still be a combat subforum. Thread subject still stands. Combat related posts should go into the combat section.
