  1. This is for anyone who makes lace items, particularly bras but other things as well, using GIMP. How hard is it? Do you import lace from a download, copy it from something like an online catalog photo, or draw it? How is the best way to make lace? I am going to make some new bras, and I would like to try my hand at lace. Both unlined sheer bras and lined bras but with lace on them. I know that Marybeth said, on another thread, "Actually, bras with lots of lace are the most fun for me to make, so I have many of them." so maybe she will tell me more, but I would like to hear from others with experience designing clothes (all kinds) with lace.
  2. But in RL I like to buy very nice looking underwear and nightys, although the only one that sees them is me and my husband, and I don't think that he notices! Just like a male!
  3. 1). How and why did you get started? Like many people, I wasn't satisfied with what I could buy and found out that I could make what I wanted; 2). What tools do you use? Do you use mesh, etc.? I use GIMP to create the texture, then upload it. I don't yet use mesh or anything else. 3). Do you make clothes that you would wear in Real Life, or clothes that you would only wear in SL? What I wear in SL is the same as what I wear in RL, including under clothes and outer clothes. 4). Do you make lingerie, sleep wear, bathing suits, outer clothing, etc. I make lingerie, sleep wear (pajamas and night gowns, and bathing suits. Must mostly shirts, jackets, skirts, and pants. I haven't yet done lace but I would like to. Sometime I will. I only have a few bras and panties. All are fairly simple but similar to what I buy and wear in RL. 5). Do you show off your clothing creations? Where? Just by wearing it. I do not have a store.
  4. I have the same complaint, for the same reasons. In particular, I would like to wear jackets with skirts, with the bottom of the jacket falling over the skirt. I would also like to have a slightly transparent skirt over an opaque slip. All of this would be possible if only the skirt layer worked like the other layers with the "add" function.
  5. My avatar is like the RL me. I didn't go to any great length so it is somewhat like me - as close as I could come without any serious work. My hair color and type are also similar to the real thing. I dress about the same in SL as RL. For me, SL is an extension of RL. I know that some people use SL for roleplaying, I have no problem with that and know that is one of the purposes of SL. However, for me SL is an extension of RL.. When I have conversations in SL, they are based on RL. Ask me, in SL, about my work and I will tell you about my RL work. As me how I am in SL and I will lie and say "fine" just as I would in RL.
  6. In RL I live in the South where it is very common to say HI to strangers in stores, and they say Hi back.. Smiles are also common. I know from experience that is not common (but occassionally done) in the North. On SL I appreciate a hello from a stranger. Sometimes a real conversation will result. However, some things to remember about SL: Unless you say the name (as in Hi Vicki), the other person will not necessarily know you are speaking to them. Often, an avi is standing and looking normal, but the person in RL is talking on the phone, looking at another window (email, etc.) on the computer, or otherwise occupied and not watching the chat. So the person will appear to be ignoring you but there is a real reason. So don't consider it rude for someone to not respond.
  7. That is how some men think. You like to show off what you have. For me, I would be very uncomfortable if, in SL almost as much as RL, I was in a dressing room and some pervert was watching. In SL, as in RL, if you want to see a naked body it is easy to do so. So I don't know why anyone would want to see someone undressing in a dressing room or other private place. But I know that some people do. I have seen the "cross hairs" from someone else on my avi when in a dressing room. The ability to move a cam to someone within sight is OK. In fact, very useful if you want to get a close up or center your view on that person. But what I don't like is the ability to watch a person who is otherwise out of sight, like in a dressing room or other room with a closed door.
  8. I have also seen the same problem. The reason it affect me is that I would like to have a skirted suit with a jacket that is over the skirt. I was hoping that I could make a jacket with two clothing items-the jacket itself and the bottom part of the jacket that would be on the skirt layer and on top of the actual skirt. However, when I added the jacket bottom the skirt disappeared. When I took off the jacket bottom, the skirt reappeared. I hope it will be fixed so my avi can wear skirted suits (with jackets that fall over the skirt) rather than just pants suits and short jackets with skirts.
  9. I wear system skirts. They are easy to make with "change appearence". That big butt is a problem, though. (A problem in RL also!).
  10. Ariel, " I don't really like the look of being able to see a bra under clothes that aren't designed for that sort of thing, so with a lot of my summer dresses/tops, no." I have the same opinion in real life. I really can't stand to see women wearing a strapless or spaghetti strap dress or top with a bra with straps, or a back that exposes the back of the bra. It just doesn't look good, IMHO. One advantage of SL is that I have strapless bras that can be worn with strapless dresses or tops. In RL, I don't like strapless bras, but for comfort and feel (feels like I am about to pop out!). But what it feels like is not a problem in SL. I don't know what to do in real life. I like to wear strapless sundresses during the summer, but I don't like to wear strapless bras. But that is a problem for a some other forum. In Second Life it is not a problem, so I wear a strapless bra.
  11. Thanks to all for your opinions and insights. As for me, I wear bras and panties, feminine but I would not say sexy, in SL, even though no one sees them. I really can't explain why, except that it is the natural thing to do and I like good looking clothing, even underclothes. In real life I wear nice (to me) looking bras and panties also. I suspect that most women also do. A friend who is in sales in the intimates department of one of the better stores in town told me that there are several middle eastern women who always dress very conservatively, with hair, legs, and arms always covered, oten buy some very nice looking bras and panties. So I guess that how you look, even to your self and no one else, is important to many of us women. So the same goes for what I wear in SL. Marybeth, do you buy clothes? What got you started making clothes for SL? Do you make them for RL? Can you make them look realistic (curves, etc.) in GIMP?
  12. Robert, Just like a male! Do you and Marybeth know each other?
  13. I am wondering if other women wear underwear, particularly bras, when fully clothed. I know that if you plan to undress with others, you might, But do you wear a bra when it would remain fully covered while you are in SL?
  14. What I don't like is when a top (particularly cami on undershirt layor) does not quite come down to the top of the pants. So a pants suit (jacket, cami, pants) shows of my avi's belly button.
  15. Rember that in RL colthes have seams. I have seen many dresses that have patterns which do not line up across a seam. But one trick I use is to have a belt at the very top of a system skirt so that misalignments will not show.
