  1. I also have a thing for ballerinas (or ballerinos, as it is):
  2. Almost as sexy as Na'vi: Girls with guns.
  3. I really liked the look of Riddick's eyes. Does anybody happen to know where I could buy eyes like that in SL?
  4. Nina Stepford wrote: it looks to me like the use the same software as the sl marketplace too. That could be. LL used a shopping portal solution called Ruby on Rails for the new Marketplace, which is relatively popular. ETA: I didn't visit their site so far and just went over there to have a look. "Trusty and professional", my posterior :smileyvery-happy:
  5. Knowl Paine wrote: The pace did just quicken after I posted. Who get's the money? A website? Or is this a denial of service type attack? A anti Lithium company? The people behind the L$ exchange website that is being advertised. The site is not covered by LL's Exchange Risk API, which means that buying L$ from them is probably a very bad idea. One that can result in locked accounts if the purchased L$ were originally bought with a stolen credit card, which is often the case with these shady sites that sell virtual currency for extremely low prices. The same goes for L$ sellers on eBay. Edited to add: By advertising in the official SL forums, they make it look as if their site was legitimate and tolerated by LL. Some newbies might fall for this scam. That's probably why they posted their ad spam on a daily basis for a while back in the old Jive forums.
  6. I'd like to see our inworld join dates instead.
  7. I think Honored Resident is the highest rank that can be achieved through post count alone. The other ranks seem to require kudos points.
  8. I hope the Lindens will either find a way to allow content from trustworthy sites like Flickr and Photobucket or increase the image limit. If not, we'll have to start deleting our old pictures at some point.
  9. Of course. Who else would it be? Surely nobody would do this kind of thing for monetary gain :smileytongue:
  10. Suspiria Finucane wrote: Truce? :smileywink: That was just me being silly But actually, I thought we already had a truce. Until you barged into my first thread on this platform and snapped at me.
  11. Cato Badger wrote: @Ishtara: We have been assured that the moderation team works 7x24. Presumably the spam outbreak means that they are not competent to deal with such things. I wonder if they have just sent the spammer lots of email warnings. Lithium's reputation is now on the line and they really need to look into using a Bayesian filter (I use POPfile and after one week of training I have had FIVE YEARS of NO SPAM and no false positives) to get rid of this stuff automatically. That reads like something that could actually work. I've used Spam Bully for my email filtering in the past, which wasn't too bad either. Here's to hoping that LL find a filter that blocks the super spammers, which would currently be more useful than Lithium's superfan identification system.
  12. The life expectancy in cold climates tends to be a little higher. Humans are better at adapting to the cold than bacteria, and tropical temperatures come at the price of tropical diseases. Hot climates also go hand in hand with bad water quality and faster food decay rates. Not to forget that increased exposure to intense sunlight causes the human skin to age faster. The only real downside of living in a cold climate is the risk of vitamin D deficiency, but that can easily be balanced out with vitamin supplements. You might also want to look into daylight or full spectrum lamps for phototherapy in order to program your circadian rhythm and prevent seasonal affective disorder.

  14. Griffin Ceawlin wrote: If the scammers have to switch between accounts to get their quota in, too bad. I think LL should make it as difficult as possible for them. Does a legitimate resident with a three-hours-old account need to post 40 new threads in that space of time? I'd wager not. So.. restricting new registrants to a fixed number of posts per day for say.. the first week wouldn't be so bad. If they're legitimate posts, all's good and you get a gold star and more privileges. It it's bot spam.. not so much. Threads? No. Posts? Perhaps. This account that I'm posting with is relatively new too. The new moderation is quite draconic (and yet never around when we really need them, go figure), and I don't want to risk access to the blog and commerce forums with my main account. So I posted as Ishtara Resident for the first time today. If there were severe restrictions, I might not have been able to post 18 times and start two new threads today. What's worse, a real newcomer might not be able to ask two questions in a row. I'm afraid that restrictions only hurt real newbies with legitimate questions in the end. But a thread limit for new accounts still makes sense. If necessary, new residents could post a question to an existing thread. A post limit, on the other hand, does more harm than it might prevent, imho.
  15. Loki Eliot wrote: LOL they are also spamming the 'ANSWERS' area, ironically in the Abuse & Griefing category Unless LL add a spam forum, Abuse & Griefing would technically be the correct place I think.
  16. I decline random friendship request by complete strangers, and politely explain to customers who want to friend me that I reserve my friends list for long-time acquaintances and business partners. I'd also like to see a contact list in addition to my short and manageable friends list that I try to keep around ten names or less. Unlike friends, contacts shouldn't be notified when I come online, which is my main concern.
  17. Marianne Little wrote: Anyone knows why I can't post images from Flickr here? I guess LL disabled content from other websites for security reasons. You can use the "insert image" function, click "browse" and enter the Flickr URL there. That will upload the image to your forum profile and allow you to post it. But it will also count towards your 100 picture limit
  18. Griffin Ceawlin wrote: Ishtara wrote: LL can't possibly expect us to AR 24 threads each day. The spammer whose profile I'm looking at right now has so far posted 40 times since registering three hours ago. If LL can keep people from posting YouTube vids, one would think they could throttle that kind of posting. But that's too simple, I guess.. I guess if LL enforced some sort of delay between posts or new threads, like the annoying two minute timer that we had to put up with in the old forums, the scammers would simply create several accounts and switch between them. The only effective way to deal with this might be to restrict posting abilities to account-verified residents, i.e. residents with payment info on file. That was the case on the old vBulletin boards that we had before the Jive blogrum, and I didn't see too many complaints about it (probably because the people who would have wanted to complain couldn't post).
  19. I can't help but notice that the forum moderation is a little inconsistent. In this thread, they simply pulled all posts that contained the bad s-word (the one with the three letters that ends with an x), and left the thread with non sequitur replies to the missing posts. In another thread, they left the moderated posts and simply replaced the text with an *edited for ....* comment. Personally, I prefer the latter method, despite the naming-and-shaming effect.
  20. So far, I only see a huge disadvantage of the current forum settings, namely the sorting by thread date instead of the date of the last post. In other words, replying to threads is not enough to bury the spam. We'd have to start 24 new threads after the scammers have posted their daily drive-by spam. The sort order also creates a problem with those epic social threads like "Please ignore and let this one die". It is already on page two of the thread overview, despite having had new replies today. Whereas some of the threads on page one didn't have any recent replies. It would be great if we could change the sort order somehow, instead of having to dig deep into the forum history in order to find all recent posts.
  21. As I understood it, the L$ spam'n'scam was one of the reasons for the platform change from Jive to Lithium. Now it's time for Lithium to work its magic. LL can't possibly expect us to AR 24 threads each day. Besides, the moderators only seem to be around during LL's work hours. I'm really curious to see if Lithium came with a magic bullet for cases like this.
