  1. The question is, how much can you afford?  You can certainly try bargaining with the owner though they have a great many parcels around the Mainland which they can afford to keep on sale at high prices for months.  One thing I'd be concerned about though, if I wanted an uninterrupted sea view, is that space between the parcel and the sea.  It could be built on at any time.  The road edge is protected, not the seashore.

There are people who can't stand the thought that their virtual property might be visited by others in their absence, setting up ban lines or security orbs to eject interlopers. You'll eventually encounter such things, just as I still do. Don't worry about them. Those things are protecting people you probably don't want to know anyway.

    ;-).

You won't want to know me then, as I have an orbiter.  I got tired of being startled when arriving home and finding someone there, or worse, other people telling me to go away.  I do get startled; I even startle myself sometimes when I move.

When Garnet mentions buying on a Private Estate, just be aware that you are not truly 'buying' - as in you would not really be the "owner" in the eyes of LL.  You would actually be paying rent to the true owner, though you usually would get close to full owner permissions on said land.

Quite true, I'm just mentioning an alternative.

  4. Ah, I misunderstood what you were saying.  I thought you had begun paying for a Premium account once more.  If you're still on a Basic account then you can't buy land, and I have to assume the system hasn't caught up.  To buy a parcel on the Mainland now you'd have to upgrade to a Premium account.  You can still buy land now on a private estate, of course.

  5. Late summer promotion.  Quiet residential living where the grass is green and there isn't a tiki hut in sight.  Normal rent will be L$3,475 per week but you can pay just L$2,475 each week for the first 4 weeks.  You can terraform, you can be invisible to your neighbours, you can hide in a corner and no-one will bother you :D

I don't run a business, I just let out space to allow me to live on a nice, quiet island, so I'm not available 24/7 and I haven't got staff.  I do want you to be happy, though, so I'll try to help you if I can.  IM me inworld if you have any questions.

  6. There's a new group of regions, possibly a new continent, it seems, with regions named SSPn.  I only know about this from seeing a Flickr photo by Daniel Voyager.  Does anyone know what it's for?

New 80 SSP regions arrives on the grid

  7. Hello Darren.  You might try the forum hangout.  If you join the inworld group The Forum Cartel there's a SLURL in the group description.  I haven't been there myself yet as I'm too shy but they're nice people ?

  8. Beatles-era person, me :D  There were so many bands I listened and danced to then, and you got me playing them all.  I miss the optimism of the times, and the feeling that anything could happen.  Of course, it all turned to pot eventually *cough*.  Anyway, I beg your indulge for two tracks to represent the classic and hippie faces of the decade.

Garnet.. I remember those sweet innocent and horrid looking days. We all thought we looked like the bees knees! Remember the little red panda avatars? I've been looking for my old pic from 11 yrs ago and I remember that most were on an old hard drive that can't be retrieved.. so sad not to have my authentic Ruth pictures! Love your little black cat ?

Was the panda one of Wynx Whiplash's range?  If so, it's still available from her shop. Yes, we were very happy with dreadful clothes.  In some ways there was less pressure to look good then, and it took a while for things like AOs to be considered even useful.  I miss seeing all those non-human avies, like cardboard boxes or badly-made robots, or clouds.  Of course, some people liked wearing sequins ... here's a pic of me at the Welcome Area listening to Philip Linden expounding on something interesting (in those days there were always Lindens hanging about to chat and keep an eye on things).  40988.jpg

  10. My earliest pics are on a badly damaged hard disk but this is the oldest one I could find taken by one of my first neighbours, Dianne Mechanique, in 2005.  I was wearing Robin Sojourner's blonde hair and bun together with her black jeans and my own system layer black jumper. You can't see my shoes but it's probably just as well.  25835.jpg

Then I got into being a cat.  Sometimes white, sometimes black. 39298.jpg
