Ok heres the deal, I need new ideas of what to make as a rigged mesh avatar to put up for sale in the MP. If you can give me a great idea and I make it, I'll send you a copy of that avatar for free. Around the start of 2003 I was really bored and wanted to play an online game for free, so I went to check the beta section of gamespot.com and there was Second Life beta. I don't remember the description but it talked of creating my own stuff which I thought was amazing. So I signed up to join and waited for weeks to get approved. Everyday after that I only thought of the game. I thought of things I wanted to make and what kind of avatar I wanted to create. After a while I got a notice back saying my computer specs were too low. So I decided to sign up again and this time I lied about my computer. Also I had to write a paragraph about why I wanted to join SL. Then I was approved quickly afterward. The thing that facinates me most about SL is being able to express myself in the way I want to. Most games just hand you toys to play with and don't leave much room for indiviuality. But in SL I can be whoever I truly want to.

I didn't know if this was a known script, I have scripter friends I can go to. I just didn't know if this could be done or not.

Say you have an object with a texture cycle script that creates an animation using one texture. There are two types of scripts I was wondering if were possible. Keep in mind I'm not a scripter. =/ I was wondering if this object would be able to turn Alpha (invisible) and back on keeping the texture cycle going. The second one would have a follow script, and while the avatar it is following is walking and the object moves along, this texture animation will play, and when this person stop and the object comes to a stop, the texture will freeze where it is. Would either of these work? And if they do, Where can I find such scripts?

I'm not seeing anything on shiny... I'm using the Exodus viewer and when I add shiny to my rigged mesh it looks fine until I wear it... then it disappears. Will others see it as shiny? Or is this a bug?

I had this problem too but I found the answer! HAZZAH! When you go to upload check "generate normals" it will still look blocky but FEAR NOT! Just adjust the number next to it up and down by one and it will turn smooth =D FIXED! YAYS!

lmao I wish I read this before I spent hours trying to figure out exactly what you just told me. I fumbled around a bit and came across it and HAZZAH! It works =D thank you very much.

Heres what I did, I rigged my mesh in blender 2.49 cause i'm still not good with the new version. Then I saved it as a blender file and loaded in blender 2.6.1 and then using a tutorial and plugin exported as .dae for SL. When I went to go upload everything seemed ok. I could see the joints and weights. Then I hit upload but when I wear it... it suddenly has no more joints and I am confused... anyone have any advice?

lol, it was a friend of mine that kept lagging me and I was on my land so I had him strip down and that got rid of the lag.

I'm quite baffled here... Everything is fine until I face certain people's avatars. Normally my fps is around 15 but as soon as someone enters my viewing area it jumps down to a snail crawl at 1fps... but it doesn't do thins all the time. Sometimes it shows their avatar just fine with no lag. Also sometimes it will be fine for a while then it will just suddenly hit me. If they get naked the lag goes away. Scripts don't seem to make any difference. I'm pretty sure its the textures. But it loads my house just fine. Most avatars don't seem to cause a problem, just certain ones but others don't seem to have the same issue. Btw I am running SL on Exodus.

He knows about SL... he just doesn't like the idea of me kinda living on the net so to speak. he would rather see me out hanging around with people in the real world. I started SL in Feb 03... he knows how involved I can get =/

In order to render the graphical richness of SL you need to install some software. Today. There was a test browser-based viewer, but it was severely limited and (as I recall) didn't allow any interaction or teleports to any place other than a couple test Sims. lol... the 1st suggestion would probably work till my dad found out. My dad knows SL won't give the computer a virus but he doesn't like me using it anyway...

Hey guys, a few months ago my computer died. I've only been able to borrow this computer for now and the owner of it does not want me to install anything onto it. I only have a guest account and I was wondering if there is a way to get into SL without having to install it. The owner of the computer knows very little about the internet and anything computer related, she won't let me install SL because she is scared of getting a virus.

In the classroom I want to create. I would have an island where my students could not leave. And they would only use their accounts for class in that classroom and not outside, they are not allowed to have friends on this account. I will probably have to keep their password so they don't log in at home. This way I can regulate everything they do and have no distractions. If they want to play games and talk with friends then they will have to create their own personal account while at home. If they want to work on projects at home they will have to send their creations to their classroom account.

Thanks for the response. Something like this would be a dream come true to me. But I wouldn't know where to start. I really doubt my old high school even knows about what SL is. I doubt any colleges know either. I've never taught a class before either so I'm not sure if it will work.

Yes I do. I teach in rl and in sl. The fun part is I teach SL in RL! Thats exactly what I want to do and I told my dad about it and he laughed at me and said it was too silly and that I would never get to teach a "game" in real life T-T Please tell me how I can get into this? Should I go to a highschool?

I have a question. A year ago a good friend of mine who was 16 now 17 had his account banned for being a teen. He lost a lot of his things and now that both grids are merging, he wants to know if he can get his old account back.
