  1. Im working on a project that has a tree with branches on it. Im useing Blender 2.62. The branches are simpley a plane with texture shown on both sides. Question is, how to i make blender do this as when i upload to SL only one side of the plane is shown while the otherside is invisible. :-s
  2. Hello you awesome people :), here is a script i cobbled together that i use in my Animated rats. All it does is sets the alpha of a face 100% to 0% and in doing so gives the illusion of animation. The process is looped and this is causing a stack heap collision after a few minutes. Preventing the stack heap is beyond my limited scripting ability so i was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to enlighten me. float cloakSpeed = .06; anim() { llSleep(cloakSpeed); llSetAlpha(0,ALL_SIDES); llSetAlpha(100,5); llSleep(cloakSpeed); llSetAlpha(0,ALL_SIDES); llSetAlpha(100,1); llSleep(cloakSpeed); llSetAlpha(0,ALL_SIDES); llSetAlpha(100,2); llSleep(cloakSpeed); llSetAlpha(0,ALL_SIDES); llSetAlpha(100,4); llSleep(cloakSpeed); llSetAlpha(0,ALL_SIDES); llSetAlpha(100,0); llSleep(cloakSpeed); llSetAlpha(0,ALL_SIDES); llSetAlpha(100,3); anim(); } default { state_entry() { anim(); } }
  3. I've been up all night trying to find a dance machine script that will allow me to start off a series of dances from a small attached mesh object im wearing. All the full perm dance scripts on market place either only play one dance animation, or they only work via touch which at the moment you cant touch attached Mesh objects. Does anyone out there know if there is anywhere i can find a chat activated dance script that rotates through it's inventory of dance animations?

  5. Well maybe that can be proven by turning Mesh Rendering off inDebug and see if that makes a difference. Which i just did and saw no difference, so i dont believe Mesh is the issue.
  6. So the view there is that the difference in bandwidth could be that one viewer is retrieving from local cache while the other is pulling from SL servers?
  7. While recording a comparason video between the current Development Viewer and an old June 2011 Dev that runs smoother, I noticed a major difference in presented bandwidth. Basically the June2011 dev viewer was the best viewer to ever exist for speed and smooth frame rates, but since then something has buggered up every viewer since. So i compare current builds to that old build hopeing someday LL will give me a viewer that runs just as smooth. One comparason shows that stats window when panning the camera from looking outside the region to looking inwards. When i did this on the old June dev viewer i noticed that as the cam pans inwards the bandwidth rockets above 1000kps to the maximum bandwidth set in preferences. But on the current Feburary Viewer the bandwidth remains at below 100kps, well below its maximum setting in preferences. Does anyone else know more about this sort of thing, could this be the reason the new Devs do not run as smooth as the old June Dev? I mean, perhaps the newer viewers communicate through my router differently compared to the old Dev, and i have to set my router or something.
  8. The Most i got was 72 fps, then i looked inwords towards the centre of my region and it dropped to 15fps
  9. Does anyone know wether its possible to activate an object by simply rolling over with your cursor? or has anyone created a technique that mimics this task?
  10. Thanks! The HUD has a few problems when people crash and log back in, something to work on in future though.
  11. I'm finding that the hardest part of creating a game in SL is the 'start'. Once a person has all the info, HUDs and instructions, they can then get on with the game. But inworld it can be quite hard to present all the info one might need for a game without overwhelming the user with inworld signs, notecards and chat instructions. To describe what I mean better, imagine you start a game on xbox, iPhone or PC. First thing you usually get is a start screen or menu where you can find the info you need, but in SL this isn't something games creators can provide, or can we? I'm finding that people have different levels of intuition towards gaming or experiencing SL. Some need more info at the start than others, but I don't want to clutter the start with info for those who don't need it. One of the things I plan to look into when we get the new tools, is how to improve the start of a game. Would it be helpful to block off the users entire view to create a start screen menu for games via an automatic HUD?
  12. Just in time for christmas is a new Mini game of Crystal hunting. Linden Lab may have done a crystal game, but do they have an adorable Christmas Troll called Egnog? Get the Free HUD from the Sign then start following the footprints and find FIVE crystals to fix the Magic Key, then you can gain access to Egnogs Winter Grotto where you can get FREE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FROM THE FESTIVE TROLL! FIND THE LANDMARK TO ESCAPADES ISLAND AND THE START SIGN HERE ON MY SLFEED Hope everyone has a great christmas :) Thanks to all those on these forums who have helped me with Mesh and Scripting tips. The Egnog game is the culmination of all that help!
  13. @Polenth Yes this is an area LL could look into. I havent experienced Pile Ups for a long long time. It is where you land on someone and get stuck in a free fall animated state and cant move untill the person below you moves out the way to allow you to drop. Why this happens is one of the SL Mysteries
  14. *Part of a much BIGGER story.Part of the fifth New Babbage Chronicles Roleplay game in Second Life it is designed as a simple clue hunt game to uncover a small part of the overall story The Dark Aether falls. The Roleplay has already been unfolding for almost two months and is nearing its end dead line and while the residents of New Babbage have been writing lots and lots about their reactions to the story and contributing their own spin off encounters i have been working on this mini game. The aim of the game is to uncover the truth about why a man is found hanging in the Red Dragon Opium Den. Following Clues and solving riddles while watching machinima cut scenes that explain the story. It is a way for people to get into the spirit of New Babbage who's motto is 'what could possibly go wrong'.The end is somewhat open ended allowing those who are interested to stick around, talk to other residents of New Babbage and perhaps become addicted as i have to the steam filled smoggy city of Steampunk.*Building on experience. The game itself is a combination of what i have learnt from past games such as the evil zombie worms and last years The Black Heart. It uses a HUD to allow the user to play the game. It holds all the parts of the story and you basically search the town for the clues which when you click activate the necessary part of the HUD. The HUD also comes with the Dapper Zapper with which you can dispatch annoying evil Aether Bugs that run around in the sewers. The Dapper Zapper and HUD together cost just L$100 which is about USD$0.50 and i hope people will feel the experience is worth it.*Sorry about the poor quality of the video, Youtube uploads bad quality, fails to upload or cuts videos short since it's latest upgrades. The video is interesting from a game creators perspective when it comes to new users loging in and using Sl to access inworld games.*Shared Media woes continue a year later. It is a shame the new LL gaming tools have not been released yet as they might have helped make the initial start of the game easier for those with little SL Skill. Also i found it really hard to get the Shared Media to work across all versions of SL viewer and on windows. For some reason on my Mac using Viewer V3 the machinima cut scenes worked perfectly in world. But on windows on Viewer V3 the Videos appeared just grey. Wether this is a Flash plug in issue, or a windows Webkit issue i do not know as I'm not a software engineer. The shared media video does not work at all on the popular out dated Phoenix viewer so an external video version of the HUD was included allowing people to click a button to pop the video outside into a web browser.
  15. I believe once you start interacting with other peope to accomplish a goal you start moving into the area of roleplay. For instance if you just sit in a tank on your own and shoot things for enjoyment and points thats entertainment, but if you start communicating with your friends shouting OVER after every sentance, then you are in the realms of roleplay which is a seperate layer that envelopes you and the game you are playing. It's a bit odd really as i dont percieve traditional RPG games as roleplaying. Why is Pac Man any different from Final Fantasy, you take on roles. One is a yellow puc that runs around a maze downing pills the other is some characters who defeat monster in a turn based fighting scenario. The player is stil taking on a role and niether of these games have interaction with other players. So perhaps story does have a major influence in RPG and its the users interaction with that story that defines an RP environment. An example from my second life would be the Goony group. Games in SL we may visit and we add the RP aspect to a game that was'nt an RP game simply by treating the game as an experience we are having together as a gang of misfits.
  16. This is the Trailer for the 5th New Babbage Chronicles Steampunk roleplay season.
  17. They have not yet announced what the new tools are, but you can sample them at Linden Realms
  18. Intersting that you should mention a passport style system for destinations. At the start of this year i mocked up on my blog an idea i came up with for what Linden Lab could possibley do as a mobile App. It was basically an App that allowed you to browse all the destination guide places, mark destinations as places you'd like to visit next time you log in , share destinations and review places you have visited. It's interesting how our two different ideas cross similarities
  19. My Underground Base showed that people are more than willing to pay to take part in a game as much as they would to by something off market place. And if you make it so they aquire something they can use elsewhere while playing the game then it gives them more value as well as a momentum of the game. Infact with The Underground base i was able to top up my tier target from what people paid to have a go. In october i did the Zombie worm game, and even though people found it hard to understand at first due to my own poor descissions the result was my tier target was paid for due to people buying into the game. People are willing, it's just a matter of making the game easy for them to get to grips with quickly and finding a way of promoting your game to lots of people.
  20. That traffic only happens during the first day or so of being on front page of destination guide, it drops dramatically after that
  21. I have found the Scripting Forums an unbelievably helpful resource. Without them and the people who must check throught hem regulary i would not be able to do the sorts of games i am right now.
  22. Example. When the Evil Zombie WOrm Massacre was running, i got a manic IM from someone who had accidently deleted a magic muscial key he needed tin order to complete the game. Turns out he was using Phoenix Viewer and had selected by accident a Phoenix feature called DEREZ. Also he could not see Zombie worms because they were mesh so instead he saw big man eating Doighnuts
