  1. Our 500 cable connection is pretty fast despite being received wirelessly. Ookla measures the signal with at least 50 tabs open at nearly 600 Mbps. For another $20, they will upgrade the speed to 1000 but I don't think we need it. Maybe one day they will load up this node and speed will drop, but for now it is good. This cable is also significantly cheaper than the fiber option.

My takeaway is that fiber optic is unlikely to notably improve SL performance, so we will stick with cable for now. SL runs well enough. If we decide to go with fiber, that can be installed at any time, but they will only waive the $200 installation fee now. Oh well.

    Thanks everyone for the input.

  2. Fiber optic finally made its way to our house. Does fiber significantly improve SL performance over cable?

My cable download speed is over 500 Mbps while upload is a little over 20 Mbps.

For comparison's sake, a 500 Mbps fiber optic connection would supply 500 Mbps for download AND upload!

Fiber is a little more expensive. Assuming the pc's ability to handle the speed, would SL performance likely improve? Is packet loss iessened with fiber?

STILL! No MeowMeow, Catzer, Catnip, Kitten Poop, Meowzer, etc., etc.

I wanted something new, modern and with a luxury feeling.

Ohhhhh, @Marianne Little... Luxury modern, big, huge windows, walls of windows even, water, add to that high ceiling... A girl can dream. *sighs*

I wasn't nuts about the Ranch theme either, though I thought it was beautifully done. I love that its hilly and that the lots themselves aren't flat.

I got one and made a silly cat B&B with lots of kitties running wild. But it's turning into a giant litter box, so I will have to move soon. 🤭

  6. The new Belli Ranch homes are extremely well done, and my deep appreciation goes out to everybody involved.

However *cough* there is a real problem: lack of equity.

There is a sim region called "Woof." There is not any region called "Meow."

I accidentally landed in a home in Woof named "Meow Meow." I commend the owner for having the courage to stand up for felines in trying to achieve a measure of equity. It is of utmost important to pacify the myriad of SL Kitties.

But it is not enough. My nearly 300 KittyCats have asked me to beg the Moles to name a region, somewhere, "Meow."  "Meow, meow" would work as well if the dogs won't be offended.

    Thank you for your attention.

  7. Kudos SL for putting SL20B together in such a BIG way!

I'm delighted that Shop n Hop was updated; it's so much easier to get around. Ditto SL20B itself. The new builds are open, airy, grand and just feel good. The time capsule set up was confusing at first, but once I understood it, it made perfect sense. My hunt HUD did work, but I still had to cheat to get the gifts. Still working my way through the exhibits. So far Burning Man and KittyCats stand out. Lag is up and down depending on the time/day, but at no time did I want to leave because of it.

I fully intend to see every crevice of it. Twenty years! Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music!

If they were telling the truth, the slogan would be "Your World, Your Imagination, but only within the limited constraints we give you."

Yea, just like living within the law in RL.

When even the big kahuna Philip can't be arsed to let go of his 2003 avatar, how can we expect the upper echelons at LL to actually understand the 2023 world of SL?

I like Phillip's old avi. It reminds me of the old days. By the way, he did change it, but in a way that is reminiscent of the original. He's got a terrific new skin, eyes, and maybe a few more details. I was almost upset at the change, but he looks really good.

  9. Maybe the new regions are G because they are planning on capturing the pre-teen and teen markets again? With the mobile viewer, that may no longer be a pipedream.

Regardless, they have built a rich entry point that showcases segments of SL - and will no longer leave new residents wondering why they bothered downloading the viewer. Good job Linden Labs!

My figures for the GDP came from a Linden Lab press release, found here:

This is GDP, not net earnings.

Caught! Lol! (self-reported "GDP of $650 million USD")

Now the volunteer mentor pay-it-forward program makes more sense. Like the old days, this must be a Phillip project! Welcome back! Wishing you  peace, love, and a ton of Linden.  🤭

Gift card is not unreasonable for LL either, whenever I get help from a Linden (support ticket), they always ask me if via a survey how to thank the Linden employee who helped me, with a gift card or a long lunch. So on top of pay, the employee also gets incentives/extra thanks on top of that.

Ditto. And I never know which to pick. I usually choose a gift card since that is what I would choose. Sometimes I write that the Linden should get to pick what they want.

The one time I ran into a Mole in world --- I knew he was busy with something.  So I just said "Great job!" and went on.  He PMed me back saying thank you and he was helping make a new Resident experience.

I'm with you Kimmy. I love to watch what they are doing, especially when they are building. But I purposely don't bother them. (Except sometimes if there is a Bear involved.) 😁
