NikCruze
Just curious if anybody knows the optimum res in pixels that a profile pic should be. I know it's not an equal square number but more of a 4:3 ratio looking at it, but knowing the exact number would help when uploading any work done via photoshop for profile use. I tried a couple at around 400x300 which although worked physically could possibly be smaller? Any help apprecited re the exact res, thanks. Keli Kyrie
I made mine small because it is a animated gif. It is: 150 x 150, Resolution
Void Singer
it's 1:1 (64*64 in icon, 300*300 when clicked ) in the my.secondlife.com profile, in the world.secondlife.com profile it's 4:3 (256*192)
Ishtara Rothschild
When you upload the image to SL, it should be stretched to either 512 x 256 or 256 x 256. I've found that 256 x 256 results in a sharper image, since the picture doesn't have to be downsized to the same degree as larger images. However, the aspect ratio of the image should be 4:3 (except for the First Life image, which has an 1:1 ratio).
Kelli May
It also depends on where, and in which viewer you want to display it. In 1.23 based viewers, the 2nd life tab profile picture is 178x133 pixels (4:3). The picks tabs are 288x192 (3:2) and the 1st life tab is 1:1. NikCruze
Thanks for the replys. Yeh it's the stretching i want to avoid. Was hoping for a spot on standard figure that LL recognizes. At least if is 4:3 i can work with that. Thanks.

The new profile system can deal semi-gracefully with 4:3 images with cropping, and use the extra width on legacy displays. They should be uploaded through the web site to work well, because the web profiles have no way to tell a really square SL texture from a squished or stretched 4:
Erwin Solo
Its a big mess. SL needs to standardize their aspect ratios.
