My avatar has been either spinning in place or goes in directions I don't want her to go. This has been going on for a very long  time. It has gotten to the point where doing things is not fun anymore. I have tried just about everything from going to troubleshooting to asking those in the firestorm help group. I have also just got a new PC and internet and it still does it.

What do you set in your Preferences (in whichever viewer you use) as far as movement controls and such? Does it just happen out of nowhere, or when you try to do things? Or when typing?

And how do you normally control your movement? Do you use mouse clicks, or the arrow keys, or WASD keys?

If it isn't some stuck animation permissions like we've seen before, or some sort of RLV nonsense that got stuck on you, it might be some sort of conflict in how your movement prefs are set.

Knowing only that your avatar rotates in place and goes the wrong direction a lot doesn't give us much else to go on. If you can think of any specific things, like when it seems to happen most, if anything seems to trigger it, or if it's just out of nowhere and such might help to narrow it down some.

Also, knowing if you have a good connection speed, and that it's set right in the Network prefs helps. Setting maximum bandwidth to what seems right is often a source of problems, in my experience. Setting it to much lower than I thought it should be made everything work a lot better.

It's obviously not your computer. Knowing it's not your computer means it can only be network related, settings related, or interaction-with-others-picked-it-up-by-contagion related. Either way, it can probably be solved.

Honestly, I would try to narrow it down more by making an alt account (on a free email or something) just to test and see if it affects both accounts. Then you'd know it wasn't something caused by another user.

That sounds weird. I suspect you've already been given the tip in the forums that you should try using a different keyboard and/or mouse. It's enough if a key is stuck somewhere, but you would certainly notice that outside of SL. At least I know it from gamepads :)

You can also check whether any scripts are active that trigger this.
In Firestorm, click on
World -> Area Search.
then click on the "Filter" tab
uncheck the "Attachment" box under "Exlude Objects".
check the box at the top ("Only list objects that are:") under "Attachment"
then go to the "Find" tab
under "Owner" enter your name, namely your display name

Then click on the Search button and all scripts that are currently active on and around you and belong to you will be displayed. If any of them seem strange to you because they don't match your surroundings (furniture, clothes, hair, etc.), try "Return". Hope that helps.

Other than that, all you can do is watch your Avi to see if she/he is secretly using any drugs :) Sorry, bad joke, no offense meant, but your problem sounds really weird. Maybe you can describe it in more detail. Does the problem occur immediately when you log in? Or only in certain places, e.g. well frequented places or something?

Oh duh, yeah, and like Liberty said, it could be mouse or keyboard related. The new computer thing made me totally forget you might be using the same mouse and keyboard.

We just get too used to them, don't we? (I do)

It sounds like the computer is detecting input from a 'joystick' or 'gamepad'

Try this:

Go to Preferences (CTRL + P) -> Move & View / Movement -> Other Devices

Set Joystick to None

Also try unchecking all 'control modes' for each joystick in this dialog.

@kenzie1770 Having a new computer and the same issue tells us a lot but not enough to pin it down.

Pheeby's recommendation to create an Alt-account is the easiest next step. Try it.

Also, when you have a tech problem like this include the viewer's HELP->About... with your post.

I have a mouse, keyboard, SpaceNavigator, and WACOM tablet attached to my computer. I occasionally get strange things happening. I forget and leave the pen is on the WACOM or something is touching the SpaceNavigator... odd things happen.
