Alt key acts as if its constantly pressed

Good morning all.

to start off, i shoudl mention i use the firestorm viewer.

when i have sl open, and i open a fullscreen application, when i alt+tab out of it and start typing in SL, it acts as if the ALT key was still pressed in, causing me to pop open a ton of menus.

it normally goes away if i spam ALT several times or after a little while but since i alt+tab a lot, its becoming a very annoying problem.

Does anyone have a solution?

Had a friend that had a broken key on his brand new laptop so it actually could be an issue.

I'm really not trying to sound like a smarta$$, but does your keyboard have a sticky ALT key?  You probably haven't done anything really nasty like dripping soda or grape jelly on it, but a few rogue cookie crumbs can gum up a keyboard.  Just a thought.

no, this laptop is brand new. i also disabled the actual "sticky keys" in windows options.

I had some keys act sticky for a long time, and finally found out it was being caused by some software I had installed.

It was NOT easy to find, and Google was NOT my friend!  

It was third-party software, not part of Windows.

But yes, also keyboards..

One way to check if a key is "sticky" - especially SHIFT, ALT, and CTRL keys - which have "pairs" of the keys..is to lightly tap back and forth on both keys of the pair, and see if somehow it becomes "unstuck" (if it one is actually stuck).

The pnly software that reacts this way is SL so i know its not my key that is broken.

 

As for third party software involving keyboards, ill look around and see if anything is like "interacting" with it, ill say if i find my answer.

Interestingly, I've started running into the same issue today.

It's never happened before, not even on this same version (6.6.14.69596) of Firestorm. I haven't been able to replicate it on purpose so far.

But when it happens, it's fixed by simply tapping the Alt key once.

yeah same, its just annoying to have to constantly remind myself to tap Alt after i ALt+Tab from something. it happens a lot to me since i tend to game and be on SL at the same time.
