What exactly are 'prims'?

i'm so confused. i think im gona be evicted from my rental bcause i am 'over prim allowance' or some such thing. dunno really what it all means - yikes :P

Simply, a prim is the basic building block of SL. A prim, or primitive, is one object. Objects can be made of more than just one prim. Think of a chair, for example, four legs, a seat, and a back. 6 prims. Some creators can make a chair out of fewer prims, hence the term, low prim furniture. To know how many prims an object of yours has, right click it, choose edit and you will see.

You cannot go "over prim allowance" :

When your land is full, your just simply cannot rez any more item on it (you will have a message telling you "could not rez the object because the parcel is too full"), but no landlord will kick you out. If you would like to put something more you really like, you will have to make choices and remove some of your current objects.

To kind of counteract what Valerie said, you can go over your prim allowance depending on how the land owner sets it up. The owner can keep it all one parcel, but monitor your prim count to make sure you do not go over. They may not set a specific prim allowance for a divided parcel, but they will expect you to not go over the amount of prims you are paying for through a rental box. If you need to, they make a 1 prim "prim counter" that will count the prims you have on the sim/parcel to make sure you do not go over.

 

And I would also be really surprised to see someone evict you over having too many prims. They should warn you if you are over so you do know, or return a bit of you stuff like a place I was at before. But they definately shouldn't evict you on the spot.

If you have a rental box on group owned land, your box is probably sending you messages that you have gone over the number of prims that are renting.

Everything in SL is made of prims (primitive building blocks) so you just have too much stuff rezzed from your inventory.

Either take back some of your stuff or contact your landlord and ask if you can rent more prims, so that your limit is higher.
