Many items, especially skins, shapes and hair do have demo versions available that are free or sometimes 1L.

Some clothing items, particularly if they are expensive, also do demos, a lot of shoes and boots do.

Basic clothing such as pants, shirts etc do not usually have demos but they fit any size and will pretty much look like the pictures.

This is a horrible, horrible design flaw in Second Life.  Other virtual worlds allow me to try on ANY item, before purchasing.  Some of them even let me get opinions from my friends before I buy!

Placing the burden of creating special "demo" products on developers is ridiculous and unnecessary.  Items could self-destruct or become unwearable upon leaving a certain area, teleporting, or after a short amount of time has passed.
