if on phone AP will the typing notification show in IM area like when actually in world and typing?

Wanted to know when in world and typing with friend and usually the typing cloud  shows when they are responding....does it show that same cloud when they are on the phone ap? Normally it does not it seems. Thanks for clarifying :)

My partner has one of those phone apps so that we can sometimes chat during his lunch hour at work, or at other times when he's away from home.

Even tthough you may be on a texting phone app, your avatar is still logged in and visible in world.  You can't interact with the world and the people in it,if your avatar is not in it.  Your avi of course doesn't move around or do anything but stand there.  So if you plan on using one of those phone apps be sure to log out where you want your avi to appear when you get on your phone app.  My partner always logs out at home.

The typing indication in the bubble or nametag that is above an avatar is, in Firestorm anyway, a preference that a user can set or unset.  

You might have your friend look at the preference settings in their phone app and see whether or not that is something that is available in that viewer, and if it is, whether or not they have it turned off.
