Could you be more specific?  What shape are  you trying to make?

A torus is already punctured by the "donut hole" running through it. The "hole" settings in the object editor will modify it. Both a torus and a hole through a solid object are a load on the physics engine; the system probably won't allow you to put a second hole through a torus to reduce the possibility of using a punctured torus to grief the simulators.
