Rebaking has not worked since 2012.  That feature was made useless when Linden Lab went to server-side appearance, so CTRL + Alt + R doesn't do anything at all.  If you want to cure bake fail, follow these suggestions >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bake_fail .  If you continue to have problems, take steps to repair your Internet connection.  Get off wireless (which Linden Lab neither supports nor recommends anyway) and reboot both your router and your modem.

As a but that shows up from time to time, 3 things to check first. Check and be sure you have on the minimums...a shape, a skin, eyes and try changing your hairbase. Can't tell you how many times I've been a cloud and I've actually been missing my shape. After that, follow the guide posted in a previous answer.

Try wearing one of the basic avatars  the you chose from  when you first logged in to sl   They are in the library part of your inventory.
