I can only think of two reasons why that might not happen. If you submitted a "Limit Buy", so that the exchange won't purchase until some resident offers to sell you L$ at your requested price. If you set the price too far below the current market price, you could wait for months before the sale goes through. If you bought L$ by clicking on the Buy L$ button in your viewer, the new balance might not show up in the viewer until you refresh it. The best way to buy L$ is to do it through your dashboard at secondlife.com . When you do that, the balance will update immediately.
