Change underwear?

Hi, there is a way to change underwear in default skin (I use Sara)? I'm new in the game and I don't know how work that.. Thanks

There sure is.........get a new skin, not from Linden Lab's Avatar Inventory. LL is very much into modesty. You'll find some excellent free skins on the Marketplace . Afterwards you can purchase some system layer undies when you feel the need to dress your nether regions.

 

OK so I fibbed. No you can't change the painted on undies on a modesty skin from Linden Lab. But free is free!

Despite what your mother told you, it's not all that important to change your underwear in SL.  In fact, you can shock your mother by not wearing any at all.  Just don't plan on flying in a skirt.  (Remember Mary Poppins.)  Linden Lab is always wary of the Internet Police, though.  They provide default avatars with underwear that is glued on very tight, so that younger residents and their mothers won't be scandalized by the sight of their naked bodies.  If you really want to prance around au naturel, you'll need to find another skin.  As Karen says, you can find plenty of free ones in shops like Free Dove.  If you plan to be around for a while, though, you might consider spending a little money on a skin that you really like.  Start visiting the shops and collecting free demos.  When you find a nice one, it may cost you L$800 or more, but you'll be happy.  (And remember, L$800 is barely more than you pay for a good cup of coffee in RL.)

OK...KarenMichelle and Rolig are both quite correct, but they also have their tongues firmly in their cheeks!  Here's the straight technical situation.

The default avatars that you start out with either have

1) a mesh body that's worn over your classic avatar body.  This mesh attachment has underwear permanently painted on.  Or,

2) most of the "classic" starter avatars also have skin layers that incorporate a permanently painted on set of underwear.  And very ugly it looks, too!

You can't take off the underwear in either case.

Since you seem to be interested in customizing your avatar, I suggest that you start by switching to a "classic" avatar.  They are much easier to edit and adjust.  Do this by clicking the Avatars button (top one, left side of your screen, two people on it.)  Choose an avatar from the "classic" tab.  While this may not look quite as good as the mesh Sara avatar, you're going to customize it...so that doesn't really matter, does it?

First, go somewhere private...a dressing room, or high in the sky, or under water somewhere.  Take off all your clothes, and your hair.  Right click your avatar, select Appearance/Edit Shape.  Spend some time playing with the many sliders that control your height, weight, shape, and facial features.  Save your work frequently using Save As, and name your shapes...something like AryShape1_092015, for example.

Once you have a shape you like, put some clothes back on and go shopping.  I suggest the freebie shopping area at New Resident Help Island, they have a little of everything and it's a good place to start.  Pick up some skins, a different hairstyle or two, some clothes and shoes.

And you're on your way!  Don't worry if you don't get the exact look you want in an hour, or a day, or even a week or two.  Most of us have spent months or years, off and on, tweaking our appearance!  Enjoy the journey and don't be in a rush to get to the end of it.
