Why won't viewer work?

I've done everything I can to get the second life viewer started. Updated drivers and everything else I can think of, but viewer keeps crashing. Is there a patch or something I need to make it work? What? Please help. Thanks.

You'll need to give us your computer specs, and what kind of internet connection you're using.  Also, what is the error message or behavior you get when you try to run the viewer?

You can provide the information Lindal requested by editing your question. You can do that by selecting "Edit" fro the "Options" pulldown over there on the right.

Does the viewer crash on launch?

Or does the viewer crash after login?

Have you checked its specs against the system requierments? System Requirements | Second Life

When you ask a tech question include information about your computer and viewer. If the viewer will at least show the login screen, get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. Help->About... provides all the version numbers we need.  To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post.

Otherwise, on Windows (from XP to 10) click Start and type DXDIAG, case doesn’t matter. That will open the dxdiag in the panel. It will give you your system specs. We need to know: video driver version, OpenGL version, …
