Do I need new avatar?

Have not been on SL in long time. My name & password still work. Do I have to create new avatar?

Not unless you are ashamed at how outdated your old one looks.  I have kept the same av for 8 1/2 years, occasionally tweaking my shape a little or changing skins. If your av doesn't look any dumber than mine and you don't feel like exploring the new options, why change?

If after installing the latest SL Viewer and your avatar rezzing has completed you look like the following:

................................you might want to pick one of the newer avatars available from your inventory.

Have to?  No.  Not even close. 

 

When you first log on you *might* be a cloud which can happen for a variaty of reasons.  To fix this, go back to a basic avatar and then put on "you" from your inventory

 

To get to a basic avatar:

Ctrl Alt D to add the Advanced menu to the top of your viewer.
Ctrl Alt Q to then add the Develop menu to the browser

Then Develop > Avatar > Character Tests > Test Male (or Female)

 

Once that is done you can then find your usual shape, skin, hair, etc and get back to being you again.
