0 KarenMichelle Lane
Klariz, I'm so sorry to hear about your Linden Purchase issues. As you have found out, the current list of authorized $Linden resellers can be found at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Linden_Dollar_(L$)_Authorized_Reseller_Program MMOOK at http://www.mmook.com/ is/was a semi-legitimate business in the outside world but is well known for failing to live up to it sales agreements. Thus the reason it is not an authorized reseller in the SL Directory. You received an email from linden lab when your lindens were seized. Please use the communication link/method they cited in that email to contact Linden Lab regarding this matter. Make sure that you communicate to LL that your use of MMMOK was a direct result of seeing their ad on the ad-space that LL leases out to 3rd party advertisers. To answer your other questions: 1) Can you get your Lindens back? - Probably not since they were not legitimate and were acquired by MMOOK illegally. 2) Why [does Linden Lab] let mmook advertise on their pages if its not OK to buy L$ from them? - Linden Lab can't and doesn't control the use of ads on the ad space they display. LL leases this screen space administrative responsibility to companies like Google who re-sell the space to 3rd party advertisers. In turn LL receives click-thru income when you use one of the provided ad links. Additionally a large % of the ads you see are a direct result of your own Internet viewing habits and are customized for you by the ad management system provided by Google.
0 Madelaine McMasters
Hi Klariz, KarenMichelle has addressed the most important questions you've asked. I'm just going to jump in with some commentary about the wisdom of Linden Lab selling advertising space on their web properties. In a word, the practice of doing so is... foolish. It dilutes the Second Life brand (not that there's any substance left in it by now) by giving control of the brand image to others. Over the years I've seen banner ads by competing virtual worlds. Can you imagine Microsoft allowing Apple banner ads on their sites? Your confusion over seeing ads for mmook on SL web pages is understandable. LL's allowance of them is not. Good luck.
0 Lindal Kidd
You were warned. The Terms of Service includes by reference a policy on third party Linden Dollar Resellers. You may buy $L only from the Lindex or from Authorized $L Resellers. Mmook is not an authorized reseller. Therefore, you violated the TOS and LL may act to ban your account from Second Life. Throw yourself on the mercy of the court.
0 Tini Jewell
Seriously, not to hijack but why is LL advertising something that is not legal within their own world? Sounds like entrapment to me!
0 Madelaine McMasters
Nah, it's not entrapment. It's Hanlon's Razor at work... "Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence."
0 mikka Luik
'without knowing it wasnt legal' welcome to the grown up world.
0 Lindal Kidd
I think it may not be a deliberate decision on LL's part. Google puts up personalized ads on websites, based on your interests as indicated by your browsing history. If you visit virtual worlds a lot, you'll see ads for virtual worlds and related services. 0 Madelaine McMasters
Yep, that's exactly how it works, Lindal. But, the decision to export LL's marketing to Google was a deliberate.
