Question

Nearly 10 days ago now I purchased a private island by mistake. Sadly, I thought the costs were in $L. I cannot afford the $295 per month fee. I submitted a ticket 10 days ago asking for a refund and have not received a reply; not even an acknowledgement. I tried the live chat and they told me to call the support line. The support guy told me that they have a two week backlog but that I should receive a response any day now & that I'll probably get a refund. That was three days ago!

The thing is I could afford a monthly fee of up to $75 per month so I am wondering if there is anyway that I can reduce my fee to that amount by donating or deeding the island to a group. From what I have read this does not seem to be possible for islands in the same as way as for mainland.

Interestingly, looking back at the information about islands, there is no mention of the differences between islands and mainland with respect to group donations and reducing tier payments.

So, I'm at bit of a loss and in a slight panic!! Is there anyway I can reduce the monthly payment by donating or deeding to a group? Would it make a difference if I donated to a non-profit?

cheers,

Sybille

I doubt you will get a refund, but you CAN sell it privately to some one else.  The going rate for a full sim right now is about 450-475 if it has a lot of tier left on it. Look for the in world group "For Sale By Owner".  They will help you.

You could also rent it out near to cost for now untill you figure out what to do. If you want a bit of guidance, contact me in world, Sybille and I'll try to help  steer you in the right direction.

How did you "accidentally" purchase a sim?

For your reference, here is the link to private region pricing: http://secondlife.com/land/privatepricing.php?lang=en-US

You thought the costs were in $L? 295$L per month? Really? Not really, right?

Ok, well one thing you may not have known, is you can sell your Linden dollars into USD, and then pay your tier from the USD balance.

If you end up renting out part of your sim that is how you can come out of pocket only $75 per month and still pay your $295 per month tier payment.

Good luck!

Gosh.

Besides the US$295 a month for the island you're also going to be charged US$1000 for the creation of the island itself.

As you're getting no response from LL you should change your credit card information under Billing to a dead or expired card so you don't get charged for the island you accidentally ordered.

You should also phone your bank and tell them to halt all payments to Linden Lab.

In the future you might not want to randomly clickety click buttons but instead take the time to read, understand, and comprehend what you're doing.

Hi Aztek

Thanks very much for your supportive response. It was a silly mistake to make I know but these things happen. LL are obviously not going to respond - not even an acknowledgement or a no - so rude! So, I'm thinking I will keep it and rent out most of it. I will try and contact you in world.

Cheers,

Sybille
