Textures are sold in shops all over SL.  Type the work texture into Search and take a quick step backwards so you don't get buried under the pile of suggestions.  You can also buy textures in Marketplace, although I think you'll find in-world shopping easier.

If you want to start making your own textures, all you need is GIMP or Photoshop and time to practice.  This is a huge topic, so you'll find a zillion tuitorials on line if you start Googling.  Or you can begin here >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Texture_Tools

In answer to your "How?":

If you're using Windows, you can create textures in Paint.

Open Paint.

Since there's no detail, it doesn't need to be a very high resolution. Use the Select tool to select an area 32px x 32px (or 64px x 64px, etc.).

Crop (CTRL+SHIFT+X). This will give you a new texture of the dimensions that you selected.

For white: Just save the texture as is (as TGA, PNG or BMP).

For black: Use the Fill with color tool. Make sure black is selected and click the texture. Save as above.

Upload the textures. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Uploading-assets/ta-p/700165#Section_.2.2

Cost: L$10 each.

You can make any texture black and white.  First, save the texture to your hard drive.  Then, open it in your favorite paint program, such as GIMP or Photoshop.  Use that program to convert the image to black and white, save it with a new name, and then upload it to Second Life (there's a $L10 upload fee.)
