Hello,

are you sure you mean "Nvidia 8600 GT"? That's not really a new graphics adapter. The 8-series are 6+ years old, and do not meet the system requirements for Second Life: https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/index.php?

You could turn off the hardware detection and test if you can make the viewer run with your Nvidia 8600 GT:

Edit your Secondlife shortcut, and add --noprobe to the end to turn off hardware check.

See: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_parameters

If that doesn't help, you can still use SecondLife with the Radegast viewer: http://radegast.org/wiki/Radegast_Download

It's the only desktop-viewer with an optional 3D world view and it's also the only desktop-viewer that is not based on the LL viewer's code, and it works well with older graphics adapters and systems.

The NVidia GT 8600 GT may be new to you, but it's a very old graphics card.  I had one in my own computer until I replaced it a few years ago.  You should be able to run a Second Life viewer with it, but you will not get more than about Medium quality graphics with it.

When you update graphics drivers, always do a clean install to be sure that you do not have errors from previous installations.  See here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Graphics-cards/ta-p/700073#Section_.1.5 .  Please also read the specific note about NVidia drvers on that page.

I don't know why either.  So you got an nVidia 8600 GT card but without more to go on than that no one can know (or even intelligently guess) why SL won't run on your computer.  A video card/adapter is probably one of the most important hardware components required for SL to run but it is not the only component necessary.  Post some specs......we know you have a card that, though pretty old, is capable of running SL quite well.  Things like your operating system, how much system memory (RAM) you have, the connection to the Internet (wireless or Cat 5 Ethernet), and the CPU might be somewhat of a factor too (though not so much unless it's older than about 10 years old......something like an Intell P3 probably won't work).

The latest driver for your card is here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-32bit-310.90-whql-driver.html

Since I don't know your OS I choose Vista x32.  I made that choice because you "upgraded" to the 8600 GT.  That card is over 5 years old (eons in technology field) and 5 years ago most users of Windows machines were using either Win XP or Vista.  64 bit systems were not as prevailant as they are now.  Hence the Vista x32 choice.  If you are using a Mac or a Linux machine that driver will not work for you.  You'll need to go to the nVidia driver download site and search for the proper driver for your operating system.

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

To give the specs I asked for and/or to comment more use the "Options" in the upper right hand corner of your post and "Edit".  Don't start a new thread since that cause a lot of confusion and makes it nearly impossible for anyone to help you.

The 8600 GT card is well above the minimum requirements for SL. It's an old card to be sure but it's fully capable of full 3D graphics. It's biggest fault back in the days of old was that the card ran quite hot compared to other cards that were the latest GPU's on the market........a lot of those cards burned up using SL because of that fault.

You didn't say which viewers you tried, but if you haven't tired Singularity give it a run through. I can run it on my seven year old notebook with integrated graphics card. I won't say I LIKE it, but in a pinch it is better than not being able to get into world when you need to.
