Why does my Avatar looks like fog or egg?

When I login to SL my Avatar looks like fog or an egg. How do I fix this?

That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked image. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today.

You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. Then plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.

Hello, simply means your avatar attachments (inventory) hasn´t loaded.

Open the inventory window type something silly in the searchbar like xyxy... whatever and wait until all items are fetched.

If that doesn´t solve try cleaning the cache and relog. Try doing this on a quiet sim maybe high up in sky or under water.

To add to Rolig's answer...both the egg and the fog situation are bake fails.  The reason they are different is that you look like fog if you have particles enabled, and like an egg if you have particles turned off.

You can toggle particles on or off with CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+=

Or, you can enable particles in your Preferences.  In the Graphics tab, view the Advanced settings and move the Particles slider to set the number of particles you can see at a time.  The default is 4096, but I generally set mine lower, around 2000, and have not noticed any serious degradation.

But messing with the Particle settings will not solve your underlying problem...getting your textures to rez.

What's worked for me... to 'fix' this problem is to 're-wear' skins and shapes. Seems to be a 'bake' failure.

 

Just 're-wear' a complete Outfit will most likely work, if you've saved skins/shapes in your outfit inventory. Overall... it still takes some time to 'bake' to a proper appearance, give it all a few more minutes to straighten out for you!
