Avatar name: Voodoo Schnyder SL rez date: 31 - March - 2007 RL age: 23 years old What can I do/have done before: I have been a roleplay coordinator, combat system manager, story line maker, mall manager, sim builder, 3D artist, photoshop texture crafter, I produce also video and sound. I have had a combat sim based on chernobyl apocalyptic disaster, a standard FPS, I also built and managed a tokyo rp city, I own three different stores on the marketplace and inside SL Design Portfolio: Because the moderators of the forum won't let me post links to my work, you'll have to IM me in game and I'll show you my portfolio. I have worked with RL companies of outsourcing and IT consulting where I designed the whole corporate image for the brand and was awarded at different graphic design communities, namely, Abduzeedo and DeviantART, with best digital artwork of the day. Traffic, sponsorship and profit solutions: I have managed a roleplay sim before on my own for sales and profit solutions with about 15,000L per week and with a traffic of 20,000. Also got several sponsorships agreements done for my project at the time that provided us with a free online database for SL combat purposes, free web hosting and domains. In-world store: I have a still running fashion business that was rather famous back in 2009, when it started, then I made two more stores, all made with mesh, and for reasons of forum policy, I can't post the names or pictures, but feel free to contact me directly in game. What am I expecting/Who am I: I have studied graphic and multimedia arts and my timezone is GMT, London/Lisbon timezone. I am looking for anything that I can be a part of, mostly companies that are in need for any sort of help in the fields refered above. I've tried uploading a single building with almost 5k faces and 3,8k vertices and the result is 87 land impact (with no physics enabled), I tried enabling physics, just for a test and it delivered multiple errors, the building is complex so Im overall pleased with the result so far, but I will keep this posted on whatever was sucessful or not, in this full mesh sim adventure Edit: there are tricks for large mesh buildings? I did a search on this topic on these forums, but no luck finding any solutions

So I open my autodesk maya and start doing something I've want to for a while, a city for the size of a full SL region, but before I go on and develop most of it, I want to know if anyone can give me some pointers on how do poly faces affect prim count, by my understanding, is that mesh builds don't take as much prims/land objects as building everything in standard prim cubes? Is this right, or will I be disappointed when I finish a 65k sqm build and can't have it in SL because of the prim limits? I ask mostly, because one time I bought a full perm mesh foot, it had around, I dont know maybe 100 to 300 faces and it was only taking 1 prim in the sim! Most cubes and planes used for sim building have even less faces than that, so this will make a good result? Full mesh sim, good idea? Thanks in advance, Voodoo Schnyder
  5. This has driven me crazy, I tell you! I've been playing some games online for the past days, with BEAUTIFUL cities! It has... inspired me. And with that said, I am trying to put together a borderlands fan role play community, there aren't enough sims like this in SL! The concept of the game is simple, really. But anyways: I had a marketeer friend helping me trace a marketing plan for sim profit, to pay off the rental fees of the region, spread the word and whatnot, but now, I realize, a project this big can't be done by only me, to have the fitting quality, I will need some help in building the sim city. What I need: A group of people, friendly, reasonable people to work with: roleplay coordinator (GMs), sim builders (for rendering textures, and building the scenario) and if you think you can apply for something that hasn't been mentioned, do so. Some screenshots of what is there intended to reproduce in SL and take to a RP community: As you see, it's just too much work for one person to do alone, so I'm asking you, for some help, to set up a team and later on set up rental systems, split the profit for us all, I also thought of a DOTA like map for this, but that's just going into needless details at the moment.   6. Give LL some time to reply to your ticket, they usually answer me within 24 hours. I suggest contacting them by phone if you're that eager to upload mesh, but I can tell you straight away, that I'm not premium, never been premium, and I can upload mesh, all I had to do was turn those two options green and I was good to go.

  9. i would edit the dae file, look for the centimeters value and set it to 1.0 or hígher, íf you havent done that already
  10. the body under the uniform is a sl shape, its not meant to be imported
  11. Let me exemplify, there's this model, who appears to be in correct, actually, perfect size and position to the avatar shape I imported from SL and avatar skeleton right? Well after uploading this to beta grid this is what i see, a distorted, misplaced version of what I wanted, I have no idea why this happens but it keeps happening! I usually get a work around, move some vertices, paint some areas, fix it with alpha masks, but I'd like a more reliable fix!

So I have been fiddling with the copy skin weights option in Maya and in a lot of cases I design any clothes, especially, tops, the arms and breast areas will be sunk and it will all be distorted in a complete mess, later I find out this is because the skin weights applied by default arent reliable and I have to paint my own, which is sometimes, a lot of work, so, is there a way to obtain a rigged SL avatar somewhere, so the weights can be copied from that avatar to the custom mesh and leave no place for rigging errors? thanks
  13. no, its never not a separated version of the original, or people would just not wear the said demo tattoo layer and walk around with the original skin for free

A demo is something that shows off how the item you are selling is supposed to look on your avatar, so you can confirm the quality, if there are any fitting issues, etc. If it is a hair you are selling, usually the creators rez a box, slap a DEMO lettering as texture on that box and link it to the hair, so the customer can still use the hair, for testing purposes, later on, if they like it, they buy the full version without any watermarks, the same happens for pants, shirts, etc, you just make a non textured version or put a watermark around your product and ship it, normally at either 0L$ or 1L$ cost. Not rocket science! The designers make this themselves
  15. im the owner of a store called void that was around since 2009. i had my share of fans of around 500 total and during the first year i cashed around 500$usd. which is pretty awesome but the design is old now! i need a partner to help remake the brand so it will shine again. í can offer split profit on this. ideal person should know photoshop at the very least , drawing skills are a plus, and should take the dark, grungy, post apocalyptic in theme. if you played borderlands 2 (google it and check) you will knos the kind of spin i want to give to the store.   16. Wow, thanks a lot for the well detailed post, Unity didnt cross my thoughts, I don't have any experience on it but if its web friendly, I'll research on animation and unity tutorials for when i get to that part, im still texturing the cyborg, but i'll bookmark this for now. thanks again!
  17. Hi, I hope no one is bothered for asking this question.. I have to do this for a school project, it's not for SL.. and I wanted to know if there is any way to render a scene as avi or wmv video. Im using maya as tool and I have a robot as model.. I want to capture a small video of that robot as a full body portrait and then zoom in to a face portrait later in the video.. for then import to adobe flash, and make it a web intro... Is this possible? I need to know if its possible before thinking about going any further with the modelling
  18. the 3 key is just a preview, your model will look just like it does in 1 key preview, if you import it to SL or any other engine. To convert it to look like in smooth preview you need to go under modify > convert > convert to smooth
  19. You can find it in your polygons shelf, near the split polygon tool. You should try different settings on cleaning up geometry too
  20. Maya has a feature to reduce polygons, you may want to clean your geometry first under Mesh > Cleanup then Mesh > Reduce
