  1. Hey all, I wanted to address the "General Discussion" Forum question that has come up. Our goal with the Forums is to keep them as focused and constructive as possible. Although General Discussion no longer exists, we're always happy to create new Forums when the need comes up. That's where the Forum Feedback section is critical. We'll be watching it closely and adding new topic-specific Forums over time.

  2. Ok, picking up where I  left off last night. Again, I’m not going to comment on the items  related to JIRA, as Oz and Yoz are all over it.

But, I have two points  to add before diving in. First, I’m really enjoying the conversation  that Suella and Prokofy are having. Thanks to both of you for sharing  your conversation with us! Second, I understand why so many are in  “sounds-good-but-I’m-in-wait-and-see,” mode. The Lab has gone through  many changes, over the last year in particular, and we are now poised to  make very good things happen under Rodvik’s leadership. More on that in  the coming months.

VooDoo--Good  question. The User Group leader is a Linden and is clearly listed on  the User Group wiki page. And, if you click on the User Group name,  you’ll see the agendas, transcripts, etc. These groups are just getting  started, so many of them are not filled in yet--but they will be over  time. And, not sure what the Core Resident Team is either.... Not sure  where that came up.

Mercury--Love the idea of a Social User  Group--including inworld and web social connections. Just added it to  my list of User Groups to investigate creating. Thanks!

Irene--Very good  point. Yes, we definitely read SL Answers and I think that you’ll like  the way we’re going to integrate it into the new community platform and  into the Knoweldge Base. More on that soon.

Looking forward to  diving back in later today, so keep the questions and ideas coming.

  3. What a crazy busy day!  Thanks for all of your comments! Ok, picking up where I left off on  comments left after 7:18 am this morning.... Since Oz and Yoz are  tackling the JIRA-related questions (many thanks!!!!), and I've already answered the Facebook/Twitter concerns, I’ll tackle the  rest.

Lexbot--Very good  point and that’s not our intention. Our intention is for each User Group  leader to try to get a broader, representative group than we did in  Office Hours previously. And, you always know who the leader of each  User Group is, so hopefully constructive input not only comes from  inworld meetings, but via other means as well. Let’s see how they evolve  and I’ll keep an eye on self-focused tendencies. I'm sure you and others will help keep that in check.

Maelstrom--There have  been many requests for a Land user group, which would cover fees and  pricing. I’m in the process of trying to set this up.... Stay tuned.

Nathaniel--Unfortunately,  we work during SLT business hours and most groups meet during regular  business hours. That said, some are before or after work to accommodate  schedules, particularly for the international audience. Feel free to  follow the User Groups on the wiki to learn more about what’s going on. Or, contact the User Group leader to pose questions and/or more  information on the specific topic that you’re interested in. You can  also ask them to set up another session at different days/times. Several groups meet twice a week in the morning/evening or at different times every other week....

Coby--We do also post  information on our own web pages--usually on the homepage of SL.com and  on blogs.secondlife.com. Twitter and Facebook are just another handy  channel to be aware of, if you choose to opt-in.

Cully/Suella--There  are several more public User Groups on the way.... Stay tuned for more  information. And, I agree with you re: the emails with every comment. It  bugs me too. In the new platform, that feature is opt-in. Thank  heavens.

Nany--Glad you see the  need for strong Community Participation Guidelines. You will be seeing  more reinforcement when the new platform is launched!

    Arkady--Glad you’re a  little more optimistic. That’s a start! I'll take it.

Moon--Thanks for  pointing those out. Glad that those items have been addressed. Well, as a  Marketing person--I’m listening. Our engineers are all hard at work  planning/scoping/scrumming/coding!

Darrius--I’m hearing a little tune in  my head. Hum along with me. ”Here comes the Sun” - The Beatles

Talarus--Promise to  share more on the new system soon! So, hold your questions for me until  then. Just a few more weeks. And, we did test it with Resi’s under NDA.  Regarding Office Hours vs. User Groups. Let me put a Resi hat on a  minute and you’ll start to see the difference. I’m an open source  developer and I want to contribute to Snowstorm. Which office hour do I  go? Oz? Q? Merov? All three? Really confusing. Now, you know you just go  to one--led by Oz--the Open Development User Group--and all three are there. The User Group  program is focused around a product or community based vs. a Linden  personality. Each User Group will be attended by more than one  Linden and sometimes an entire team. That way, your  feedback gets to the right Lindens who can evaluate it and decide what  can be done and how it fits into product road maps. And, see my comments  earlier re: Land User Group. I’m workin’ on it!

    Medhue--Great  suggestion. Microsoft Anna! Funny!

Ceera--Looking forward to getting your  email. And, I can’t tell you how many times JIVE has eaten my comments.  It must be hungry. Can’t wait to show you all what we’re working on! And  on your last question, basically--the Destination Guide, SL.com, this  blog, and the Events area--among others.

    Dirk--Really? Really?

Toady--Rod is still  getting settled in. He’s only been here 3 weeks! I suggest you read some  of the interviews he’s been doing this week to get a better sense of  what he’s thinking.

Suella--Love  that. Actually, the agenda section is part of each user group page--and  you’re welcome to add items to each agenda. Can’t promise that all  items will be covered in each meeting, of course. And, big thanks for  coming to the Communication Tools User Group. Great session. Oh, I see  now that Oz answered you, too. Double the Linden fun!

For everyone who posted on this thread--Your passion--regardless of whether you agree or disagree with our approach to communications--inspires me. I'm committed to staying in the conversation (now and in the future) to learning from you, and working with you to help rebuild some of the communication bridges that have been damaged in the past.

Keep the comments coming! I'll get to them tomorrow morning around 9am SLT/PT.

    Peace out, Amanda

  4. Dartagen--Thanks for chiming in. Agree, wholeheartedly!

WolfBaginski/Master/Han/Setekh/Arkady/Mike  and others that had questions about bans - As the Community  Participation Guidelines say, we moderate at our discretion. This policy  only applies to the community platform (not inworld) and other  communication channels outlined specifically in the policy. However, you  will receive warnings before a ban from the Community Platform is in  place. A community platform ban may be for a day, week, month, or  longer--depending on how many offenses have been committed. I will share  more details regarding our moderation procedure when the new platform  is launched next month. Hope this answers your question.

Vick--Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Great ideas in there! Will take a look at them as we move forward.

Luc/Hippie--Thanks for chiming in. Glad you’ve noticed! Looking forward to your continued input!

Maelstrom--Yes--glad  to hear that you’ll be joining in on the User Group discussions. Sounds  like you’ve got great input to provide to our team. As do lots of folks  commenting on this post.

Abby10  - Wow, thanks for posting your thoughts. And, we are currently  formulating a strategic social media plan and hiring for a Social Media  Marketing Manager (who will join my team). More soon.

Mike--Thanks for acknowledging our efforts to read and respond. Your comment has me smiling from ear to ear.

Arkady--Sure--you can point the discussions that are not appropriate to host on an SL forum to SLU. I’m cool with that.

And  for those that are worried about expressing opinions on the  Blogs/Forums, please do! We want to host a lively dialogue filled with  meaty, thoughtful discussions. We welcome dissenting opinions! The  guidelines are in place so that we can all maintain a constructive  dialogue on the issues that we all most care about. You might notice  that I have left in place nearly every comment on this blog--both  positive and negative--and only removed one that devolved into name  calling--clearly in violation of our Community Participation Guidelines.   Regardless of how you feel about a particular issue, product feature,  or policy, it’s important that we communicate with respect and courtesy.  .

Ok,  I’ve made it down to Latif’s post at 7:18am. Will respond to more later  this afternoon  when I’m done with a few meetings.... Keep the  questions coming!!

  5. Suella/Ciaran - Yes, we  beta tested the new community platform with several Residents under NDA  and their NDA is still in place. We will be sharing more about it in a  few weeks tho!

Chinco  - Yes, I’ve received several requests for a Land User Group and  evaluating who should lead the group and when to start it up. I’ll let  you know more as I do.

Ossian/Rauol/Jilla and the rest of folks who  commented on Facebook.--We do not depend on Facebook/Twitter to  communicate with you, but since so many of our Residents are using these  social platforms, it makes sense for us to be where you are--from a  communication perspective--in addition to being inworld and using  inworld communication tools. Today, most smart businesses use social  media to reach out to customers, get feedback, etc. and we are not only  using them, but also providing clarity on which ones are best for  different types of communication and audiences. That said, it’s  completely opt-in.  And, more importantly, using these social networks  is an effective way to reach new potential customers and grow Second  Life. That sounds pretty good to everyone, right? And, I understand  about potential privacy concerns. You’re welcome to check out the Second  Life Facebook page without Liking us and we always post cool stuff in  the Destination Guide and on SL.com. Again, Facebook isn’t the only way  we get the word out on happenings--just one more great feed to subscribe  to, if you like.

Maelstrom/Cully--Lindens  scan the Forums frequently, but due to the overwhelming amount of  activity in the Forums, it’s impossible for us to respond to each topic.  As we roll out the new community platform, you’ll see sections to the  new Forums added that correspond to some of the User Groups and the User  Group lead will be responsible for reading the section on their area of  expertise/focus and jump in periodically with comments.  If you have  feedback for us, I suggest you attend some of the User Groups.

VooDoo/Nathaniel/Medhue/Ann/Mike--Great  question! Clearly an oversight on my part for not mentioning it  earlier. To join a User Group, you just pop into their public meetings  listed on the User Group page. No sign up sheets and no hassle. And, no  special passwords. And, Ann--glad you like the calendar!

Toysolider--Wow. I  think I need to reread this a few times. Very thoughtful and thorough  response. You are absolutely right--the need to take a strategic look at  all of our communication channels catalyzed much of what I shared  today. It’s a start and it’s going to evolve and get better over time.  I’m really looking forward to launching the new community platform and  getting your thoughts re: how it addresses some of your core concerns.  Let’s keep this dialogue going! I love it and will continue to reference  this comment, and others here, as we move forward.

Prok--I was waiting  for you to chime in. I hear you and wanted to thank you for sharing  your thoughts on JIRA.

Winter--I think you’re gonna like what you  see. Looking forward to hearing  your thoughts when we launch the new  Forums!

Mike--Thanks  for your thoughtful posts.. See my comments above to Toysoldier.

WADE1/Janet  - Wow, glad you’ve noticed. Thanks for sharing!!

Lexbot--You’re  absolutely right! One of the most important parts about User Groups is  that we’re going to try to create a more representative group of  Residents who can share their feedback and experiences from their unique  perspectives. It’s up to each group, and the User Group leader, to  determine what the right mix will be for each one.

To everyone who has  posted comments--I truly appreciate that you took the time to read the  post and share your thoughts. Let’s keep the conversation going!!

  6. Hey all, Great comments and very good questions.

One point that's come up several times that I would like to clarify is regarding Facebook to find out the cool stuff going on in Second Life. Of course, there are lots of ways to find out about happenings in Second Life including through groups, the Destination Guide, Events, etc. But, Facebook is where we share some of the ones that we're excited about. So, if you have a Facebook account and choose to "Like" us, then it's just one more way to get plugged in.

Will jump on later this evening and answer more questions, so keep 'em coming!

    Linden Lab's New CEO

Thanks Mike and Aramis. Believe me, I am not a censor--by any means. Your posts--whether positive or constructive or instructive--are all welcome on this blog post or any other hosted by Linden Lab. What is off limits are comments that are clearly waaaay off topic or include offensive name calling. Part of this blog thread included content that was against our blog policy--violating those two tenants.

At Linden Lab, we value a spirited dialogue. So, pardon the interruption and keep it going! I'm listening--as are others at the Lab.

Again, huge thanks for your warm welcome for Rod!!!

    Cheers, Amanda
