  1. You are correct. If ANY "Grandfathered" sim is sold on then that region loses its status as such. If any homestead region was, or is "grandfathered" it then loses it status if SOLD. However if you are renting, which sounds like this is the case in question here, then any regions that have the "grandfathered" status will, or rather should stay intact, as the actual owner is still in possession of the Region(s) in question. See below for details http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Homestead-Regions/ta-p/846139#Section_.2.4 Grandfathered pricing Some older regions have "grandfathered" or discounted pricing on their monthly maintenance fees. In February 2010, it was announced that these grandfathered maintenance fees would no longer be offered. Changing ownership or converting a grandfathered region now changes its maintenance fee to the current monthly rate for its region type. We are unable to swap the price of a current grandfathered region with a non-grandfathered region. Grandfathered pricing stays with the region for the life of the region, or until the region is transferred or converted. If a grandfathered region is abandoned and subsequently reactivated, its maintenance fee is updated to the current monthly rate for its region type. So Dragger Lok, as it's been pointed out to you by others, you are in fact incorrect in your assumption.
  2. I agree. I also suggested that someone from LL should address this by posting a response to peoples concerns about possible phishing/hacking of accounts via emails that appear to be sent from them on the forums as well as reply to people about this Beta participation offer and also to actually post the Beta participation programme themselves. Also these are not spoofed emails to spoof websites.I can only comment on the email sent to me, and all the links in the one I had were genuine, as was the email I received, I've had others from LL about surveys and also requests for "assistance" with items etc within SL, some I've responded to and others I haven't. Commitment to RL only allows me a certain amount of time in here lately, whereas a few months ago I was in here most days. Hence my participation with certain things within SL. I also did an IP Address check on the IP in the email as I hadn't heard anything about a Beta Test for mobile devices, and it (the IP Address) is genuine. I stress again, I'm only referring to the email I received and as far as I'm aware this is the same email sent to others. The online questionairre, and the 5 questions are soley to do with the Beta Testing. They want to know what you will be using to test it on. Desktop PC, Tablet, mobile, Mac etc. Also what O/S you will be using etc. Also they need to know your location.. ie where in the World you are. These details are what you'd fill out when joining most sites nowadays anyway. Opt in/out for info etc is also available when you fill out details. All they want you to do, if selected, is to test it - The programme - and give feedback and report any bugs etc and also to keep "silent" about the testing etc. Again something that Beta testing entails when trialling a new product. Hardly spoofing or scamming in my eyes. This service [Onlive.com] is akin to Steam and Origin etc. They too both do Beta Tests of games etc. No doubt you have to go through a similar process if you want to do testing with them. I'm not condoning their actions or other peoples for that matter but, as others have said, do wish that LL would inform people about this and respond to comments in the forums and post a blog etc about this.
  3. I've just spoken with Linden Lab and this is real. Not a fake. Like others on here I too doubted this but I checked directly with LL. Linden Lab also suggest that anyone who has doubts about this should contact them directly and do what I did. Supply the email information for them to check on so they can confirm that the email information is genuine, or not. I did this and LL informed me that they are hosting the Beta Test through onlive.com They also suggest that you get your information DIRECTLY from them and not any other source, to ensure that any emails sent are genuine.
  4. If you are that concerned about having adverts removed/blocked then you could go here https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/ad%20blockers?hl=en a nice selection of them here. I use AdBlock myself and it is very good. Pages load a lot faster and also it stops this website, among others looking tacky and cheap. I can understand the need for adverts as LL have a source of revenue from these no doubt [pay per click or the like] Personally I prefer my web browsing to be advert free. If I want to shop online then I'll go to online shopping sites and look for what I want. I have no wish to be told what I want to shop for or "what I like" etc. I know what I want and what I like. Details for this adblocker, and others on that link from the Chrome Webstore, these are also available for other Web Browsers too. These are not illegal nor do they have spyware etc. So take a look and see for yourself.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't "Banner Ads" are generally shown due to things you've either seen on other websites.. via cookies sending info back and forth or because you've clicked on one and it's taken you to the relevant site? On this topic.. I've had shown up as a "Banner Ads" or the option of "buying shares in various companies online so out of curiosity to see what kind of link, if any, Linden Labs has to this particular one. I found that it was for a company that is called eToro and this is some of the info on them Found at the bottom of the page of eToro eToro (Europe) Ltd., a Financial Services Company authorized and regulated by the Cyprus Securities Exchange Commission (CySEC) under the license # 109/10 US customers are accepted at www.etorousa.com Also this on Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EToro eToro is a social investment network registered in Cyprus, with R&D and Sales offices in Israel, USA, Australia and Europe. It provides personal online financial services in forex, commodities and stock indices through its own electronic trading platform. eToro is primarily a platform and a software provider; it is not itself a financial broker. Rather, it connects its customers with third party brokerage services provided by various brokers. I think I'll steer clear of this one, especially in light of current events regarding a Euro baleout and the fact that the Cypriot Government has taken to informing Cypriots, and anyone who has money in Banks there, that they'll be having around 10% of their savings taken out of their accounts to help towards preventing a financial collapse if a baleout isn't forthcoming. So much for penalising the banking sector for causing the financial collapse, once again it's the general public that has to pay the price for other peoples shortcomings. Worth reading this news item from the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21827922 Cyprus rescue breaks all the rules I'm wondering how this will affect this particular firm - eToro - as they are based there. No doubt after clicking on this link, I'll be seeing more of this type of "Banner Ad" appearing on here and no doubt on other webpages I go to, due to cookies doing their thing. So all in all.. a Banner Ad that makes me wonder if I really want to do this kind of investment at all. Or am I being paranoid?
  6. If the problem persists.. use the term " Ruth " in the forums and you should find an answer that should help solve your problem. This can vary from person to person as pc issues and viewers vary greatly.take a look at this thread. Avatar is ruthed, then not loading at all. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/qanda/questionpage/blog-id/sla_avatar/article-id/447 Hope this helps you out

  8. Hi all I've not been online for a little while, over a month now, so if you sent me any IM's and I've not responded to you then apologies from me as they've been capped. Also I like to say a special thankyou to all those that made donations, I've not got your names to hand at the moment, but I will be contacting you all personally, albeit a little late, to say thankyou and your donations were very much appreciated. I've had a little tidyup up in the park and returned all the wreaths etc to those who laid them at the Cenotaph. (The prim count was nearing the limit for the region and I do like to keep some in reserve) I am adding a few park benches so people can sit in peace and quiet if they want to do so. Although this park will mainly be used in Oct/Nov each year, you are all more than welcome to use it as a place of calm and peace. I am working on some various trees and backdrops to make it more in sync with the seasons of the year. Also there will be a newer version of the memorial in the new year when it is completed.. ( it will have text on it, hopefully if it works as transferring it from a 3d cgi model in Blender and getting it to work in SL is problematic to say the least. as certain objects in Blender don't transfer into SL and some that do tend to "ghost" and go "alpha" on one side making the memorial hollow looking in certain parts. I may well have to "paint" it on or use an image instead. This keeps the prim count down but it won't be as realistic as I'd like it to be. I will be placing a box in the park in the near future, as people have suggested doing this for the park. When this is done it will be a discreet one that blends in and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb and detract from the park. Anyway as I've already said, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who did leave wreaths and crosses (working on these as well as poppies too) and once again thank you to all of those who made donations. Rorrim Wrigglesworth
  9. http://secondlife.com/destination/cenotaph-memorial-park Yay...! :) It's finally listed - and correctly too. Thank you Brett for your help and assistance with this and also thanks for listing this for me, after you spotted it in here on the forums as a post by Kalmeira Writer- and thankyou as well. Thanks to all that visited on the 11th November and also thanks for the very nice comments. Much appreciated and also thanks to those who made donations, that was a very nice suprise I can tell you and also appreciated as well. This is an old image.. well.. it's one that I took in early October just before I opened the park and since this was taken I've also made a few minor adjustments to the park as well. Free wreaths and crosses as well as a free wearable poppy are all available for use by everyone who wishes to do so. A Garden of Remembrance is also in place with a small video screen playing a few videos from YouTube in relation to Remembrance Sunday and also November 11th as well as a video that is from the The Royal British Legion. These are set to play only if you are within a set distance of the player and when you are only then will turn on and play. so to watch it you will have to have your audio/visual settings turned on and set to allow media to play. When you move away from the area it will turn off. Please do visit the Royal British Legion website and donate to them if you wish to do so instead of making donations to me.Also the donations I've received have now been paid to the RBL over the past few days. Thankyou to those who have donated, you know who you are :) Thanks again to all who have visited and also donated as well.
  10. I got a response from LL about this. Sent another email.... (!) about this. LL claim not to have recieved it.. so I forwarded it to them with an addendum on it.. so they can see the time/date on it along with the correct text I want on it. They updated it.. and didn't add the correct text.. another email sent requesting them.. please add the text I want on it.. highlighted it and explained that this memorial is dedicated to the British and Commonwealth armed forces and that it's been in Whitehall, London since 1921 and what occurs there annually every November. Now I just have to sit back and wait to see if they update it... again.
  11. I'm posting a link on here from the Destination Guide and I've posted it on Secondlife Facebook page, as well as on mine too Thanks to whoever got this put onto the Destination Guide. I do appreciate it. However, I contacted SL/LL - again- on Monday to get the text altered as it is incorrect and it's still not been amended from what I'm looking at today - Wed 14th Nov- No offence to people from the USA but this is a BRITISH and Commonwealth war memorial, not an American one. So if anyone from Linden Labs reads this could you kindly amend this to reflect what I emailed to you on Monday of this week as sending this in via your Destination Guide online request form doesn't appear to have worked - any of the three times I tried. https://secondlife.com/destination/cenotaph-memorial-park Also while I'm on here I'd like to thank those who sent me messages on Sunday and also those who sent donations, I do appreciate the sentiment and your kind words too. Also I am considering what some peopel suggested on Sunday as well. It's being looked into at the present time, Thanks again to all those who attended and all those who have been to the Memorial since Sunday as well. Thanks again,
  12. Thanks Tem, I do appreciate the feedback, glad you liked it too.
  13. There was a gathering in my park earlier today. Apologies if you missed it. I wish I had time to post it on here, but I've not been online for a little while due to RL commitments. This is my version of the Cenotaph that is in Whitehall, London. Cenotaph Memorial Park in Second Life
  14. A little bit of info for people who wish to visit this Park Please make sure that your RenderVolumeLODFactor level is set to at least 2:00 or higher.. Mesh and sculpty objects are used in this region along with the normal basic prims In the bar along the top of the viewer got to Advanced > Show Debug Settings > then go down the list to: Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S Enter the following in the Debug Settings popup box that will open up: RenderVolumeLODFactor then set the level to at least 4:00 Hope this helps you with your viewing and time in the Park.
  15. Thanks for posting this picture Susie.. and thanks for visiting today as well
  16. Hi Kalmeira Thanks for posting this here. And thankyou and thanks to all those who visited today. I can only apologise for not being there from the outset today. RL got in the way, as it has done so for the past few weeks. I did appreciate your comments and the comments from the others who were there today. As I said I am reapplying to SL/LL to see if they will ass this to the Destination Guide... again. It was listed last year, but I removed it due to a region rebuild, so I relocated it to its new location and made it into a Memorial Park. WhiteHall London RoBeck Isle Cenotaph Memorial Park Please do visit this and let me know what you think (I'm making a newer version.. 3D text on the Cenotaph and the correct textures as well as a few other minor updates for this) I'll be making a few minor improvements to the park itself as well. My Garden of Remembrance has a media player in it and it is set to play a few different videos at the present time. Currently running will be either the Royal British Legion - Two Minutes Silence video from last year as well as a video called "The Average British Soldier" among others. The Royal British Legion website is here as is the National Memorial Arboretum http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/ We help serving members of the Armed Forces, ex-Service men and women and their families, now and for the rest of their lives. http://www.thenma.org.uk/ It’s not a cemetery. It’s a place of life, represented by the 50,000 trees planted here, where older and younger generations alike can wander and wonder. Covering 150 acres, the Arboretum has something for everyone. For some it’s a wonderful place to stroll and enjoy the trees; for others it's a peaceful and beautiful place to remember loved ones, particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. 17. Hi all I'm hoping that someone can assist with some help with this problem. My friend, and I do mean my friend, this isn't a euphamism ie "my friend" aka me, is currently making a mini avatar.. a really tiny one, so small that I nearly trod on her when I tp'd in to see her. She wears a full body alpha to hide her body and then wears a tiny mesh avi that is rigged. The problem occurs when she removes the mesh and the alpha layer and the result is shown in the image for you to see what I mean. Any ideas or help on what to do would be appreciated, thanks
  18. SLPlugin.exe ends up with multiple instances running causing high CPU Usage Hello all, I'm looking for some help, if at all possible. I'm having problems with my viewers.. I've found that the Firestorm viewer has been somewhat laggy of late and so I use my SL viewer when working in my regions, as there is less lag when building etc. The plugin problem seems to have reared its head over the weekend as I never noticed it before as things were running smoothly for me. I put the lag down to weekend use by people either in the region or locally to me, where I live in the UK. I use BT Broadband -Option3 and assumed my broadband was being throttled due to high usage in the area where I live but that's not the problem. Over this weekend I have found that my SL viewer keeps freezing up on me or I get really bad lag. I was in Hathian (Crack Den) earlier today, looking at a few things, as an observer/visitor, and there were only a handful of people in the region I was in and I kept freezing up and then finally I crashed. I opened up my task manager when this happened and it showed 3 SLPlugin.exe progs running and my cpu was running at 95%! I've tried making adjustments on my NVidia control panel (as suggested on another website and it still runs 3 instances of the SLPlugin.exe when running the SL viewer and when I run the Firestorm viewer I don't even get one running but I get really bad lag. This is my pc Windows Vista Premium SP2 Intel 2 Quad Core CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 6Gig ram 32 bit OS GeForce GTX 560 with DX 11 and all up to date with the drivers. These are the viewers I am currently running Second Life 3.3.1 (254524) Apr 24 2012 06:28:07 (Second Life Release) showing 3 instances of the SLPlugin.exe running with this Firestorm 3.3.0 (24882) Feb 20 2012 16:38:00 (Firestorm-Release) No SLPlugin.exe at all when running this - but very laggy This is the info from the help tab in the SL viewer Second Life 3.3.1 (254524) Apr 24 2012 06:28:07 (Second Life Release) Release Notes You are at 144,228.0, 258,112.0, 30.9 in RoBeck Land located at sim4458.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.5.248:12035) Second Life Server 12.04.30.255166 Release Notes CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (2400.09 MHz) Memory: 3579 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit Service Pack 2 (Build 6002) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 560/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0012.9610 OpenGL Version: 4.2.0 libcurl Version: libcurl/7.21.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8q zlib/1.2.5 c-ares/1.7.1 J2C Decoder Version: KDU v6.4.1 Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.750000 Qt Webkit Version: 4.7.1 (version number hard-coded) Voice Server Version: Not Connected Built with MSVC version 1600 Packets Lost: 0/4,212 (0.0%) And this is from the Help Tab with Firestorm Firestorm 3.3.0 (24882) Feb 20 2012 16:38:00 (Firestorm-Release) Release Notes You are at 144,228.0, 258,112.0, 30.9 in RoBeck Land located at sim4458.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.5.248:12035) Second Life Server 12.04.30.255166 Release Notes CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (2400.09 MHz) Memory: 3579 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit Service Pack 2 (Build 6002) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 560/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0012.9610 OpenGL Version: 4.2.0 RestrainedLove API: (disabled) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.21.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8q zlib/1.2.5 c-ares/1.7.1 J2C Decoder Version: KDU Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.750000 Qt Webkit Version: 4.7.1 (version number hard-coded) Voice Server Version: Not Connected Settings mode: Hybrid Viewer Skin: vintage (classic) Font Used: Deja Vu (96) Draw distance : 256 Bandwidth : 1500 LOD factor : 2 I don't get any problems when running any other programmes just SL. 19. Finally I'm back in. Taken ages to log on, even on here it was a real pain. Hopefully it will not happen again...!! (As if!) *chokes on drink.. and rolls about on the floor laughing like mad!
  20. It has crashed. Despite what some people say.. they may well be lucky enough to remain logged in. I crashed 3 times today and the last time was about 50mins ago. Up until this point in time I couldn't even log into this website and the forums. The SL Grid Status Report only shows this at present: [RESOLVED] In-world Search Inaccessible Posted by Status Desk on May 5th, 2012 at 10:45 am PDT [RESOLVED 12:01pm PDT, 5 May 2012] In-world search is now accessible and functioning properly. [postED 10:44am PDT, 5 May 2012] We are currently investigating the cause of In-world Search being currently inaccessible. Please check back here for further information. Nothing on there about any other problems, yet I cannot open any of the viewers I use. The loading bar on my viewer is crawling along at a real snails pace too. There is nothing wrong what so ever with my connection. I have BT Broadband and it is stable. Everything else works with the exception of SL. No doubt therewill be a somewhat belated message on the GSR about the problem well..!! As I live and breathe.. I've just checked again and got this up: Unscheduled MaintenancePosted by Status Desk on May 7th, 2012 at 11:42 am PDT [Posted 11:42am PDT 7 May 2012] We are currently undergoing unscheduled maintenance. This may cause some Residents to be logged out or prevent some from being able to login. Some services including the Second Life Marketplace are unavailable during this maintenance. Please keep an eye on this blog for updates. Nice of them to put out region wide messages to let you know. I post regional messages if there is a problem or if I'm about to restart my region to let people know. Thanks SL!
  21. Thanks, I'll add a flag when I get a chance to get online and go to my region. As I said this memorial is actually primarily for the British and Commonwealth military and as such that does and will take precedence, although I do make mention of other conflicts since WW1. Namely Iraq and Afghanistan in which British forces were and still are involved. No offence is meant, or intended, if flags are not put in the region as my time is somewhat limited due to certain RL related things.. namely relatives visiting from abroad, work and another item I'm not really at liberty to talk about, as this is the one that is the problem with regards to me being online as much as I'd like to be. Please, if you can do so, visit the memorial. I've added a Slurl for this in my previous post as I forgot to add it when I originally posted it earlier on today. Hopefully it works as I used a SLurl builder to make it and I'm not sure if the html on this forum will allow it to work correctly, although I did add the relevant details on the popup box that opened in the Rich Text part of this. There is, however, a workable SLurl in my Wordpress blog though. So if the one on here "fails" then please use the one in my blog on Wordpress. I've also added this as an event on the Event Calender and it will be listed for Sunday 13th November, as that is Remembrance Sunday, and it's the Sunday closest to the 11th November this year.
  22. I've recently given over a section of one of my regions, RoBeck Land, in remembrance to the armed forces and all of those that have given their lives in the defence of freedom throughout the world from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam right up to the present day in Afghanistan and Iraq. The "Garden of Remembrance" is actually meant for the UK but it is there for all to use and it is in memory of ALL the armed forces from the UK, British Commonwealth, the USA and Nato as well and for all the reserves and volunteers. Although Veterans Day in the USA is the same as Remembrance Day for us in Britain and also in other countries too. This memorial is, as I said, for ALL to visit and to use and the Cenotaph will be in my region until the end of November this year. I've written some blogs about this as well and you can read about it here http://rorrimsl.wordpress.com/2011/10/09/the-cenotaph-memorial-robeck-land-in-second-life/ I've also added an update to the above blog as well with regards to this event and that is a separate blog as I made a few amendements to the memorial.. (a few things were added to the area.) Edited to add a SLurl to the region (I forgot to add this earlier on today) SLurl for the Cenotaph Memorial in RoBeck Land
  23. An Unexpected Error has occurred. Not exactly helpful from Linden Labs as this link now appears to be "broken" Would've been nice to actually see what was said as I am trying to post an event
  24. It sounds like you were "Ruthed" http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Ruth http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/CORE™:_Cult_of_Ruth_Eternal SLwiki page info here: The fix for missing textures on your avatar, which usually everyone can see but you (the white pyjamas syndrome). Press Control/Alt/D (letter D, not Delete) to obtain the Client Menu at the top of your screen, then choose Character... Rebake Textures. Finally go in and out of the Appearances Menu by right clicking on your avatar. This usually clears the problem and makes the textures on your clothes visible again. As has been said try the "rebake" option.. or tp into another location
  25. Take a look at my blog as it has details about the problem you are describing. It also has links to a wiki page about this too http://www.slprofiles.com/secondlifeblog.asp?a=comments&id=36050 "Ding Dong The Troll Is Dead!" Your Troll is not dead.. it's just buried! Lurking there in the OS code that is part of SL.. waiting to be "reawakened", like something from Dawn Of The Dead no doubt, is "Ruth"! I found out why this happens by chance I happened across some news on Open Source coding for Virtual Worlds.. and suprise suprise.. LL/SL "removed/closed off" part of the coding for when you rezz inworld and you end up looking like a "cloud of vapour/gas" Something to do with "Ruth" (Sound of alarm bells going off! "WARNING... WARNING!!! : Troll alert!!") You could resolve this problem by doing the following... if you so wish to. PLEASE NOTE: I won't beheld responsible for any problems that arise ifyou so desire to carry out these actions. You take full responsibility for it on yourself and your own actions in doing so. To permanently replace the "cloud" with an actual avatar ("Ruth" - this was an old SL default for your avatar a few years ago) Do the following... Select Advanced > Debug Settings.. In the first drop down click to get a list and scroll down to RenderUnloadedAvatars and then click the lower drop down and change it from FALSE to TRUE A link to the wiki page about "Ruth" here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Ruth Brace yourself as you will see your "real self" the "troll" that SL made you look like when you first came into SL. We, my friends and I, had folders of stuff for your avi to help you overcome this problem.. "Troll Killing" was a name that Cherry came up with when we moved from RLC to SL a few years ago. Fortunately nowadays people don't have to endure this anymore. But you can "revive your Troll" as this, so it seems, "kills the cloud" too from what I understand. I've not tried this personally....yet. I don't think I'm that brave! It would seem for some reason SL seem to think you like looking like a cloud when you rezz inworld. Maybe it is better than looking like a troll... you tell me. As they said on Crimewatch on the Beeb: "Goodnight.. and try not to have nightmares"! PS: No offence is intended to the ones known as "The Children of Ruth" then again... it would appear that WE ARE ALL "Children of Ruth"! Hope this can help you out with your problem
