  1. The challenge was to see if I could make a human avatar while keeping the same aesthetic I have on my usual furry one.

That, and to prove somebody whose name I don't remember wrong about furries using furry avatars because they can't afford/style human ones.

Now I just need to find somewhere to actually use this avatar so all that  effort wasn't wasted.

  2. It is an excellent RP hook, but the thing is, the RP just isn't there. I spent weeks trying to find a single group who'd actually roleplay it and couldn't (at least nobody with the demon system); everyone just wanted numbers. So I got numbers for a little bit and then got bored and quit.

That said it's not a pyramid scheme. There's no structure like that to it, you don't get anything significant from people you convert, and the creator just gets the usual price of the game.

  3. As I wait for a layerless and optimized update for this body, I can't help but notice that the demo has been relisted on the marketplace (with no reviews, now) and the body itself has been removed, presumably in order to reset the reviews on that too.

Very shady, to say the least.

  4. Text for multiple reason.

One that comes to mind is that it's really, REALLY hard to have multi person conversations over only voice. In real life we have body language to help - like seeing who's about to say something so you can perhaps wait with saying what you were going to. Even business calls with more than two participants get messy, relaxed ones even more so. One on one it's doable.

But I still prefer text even then; it's just more immersive.

And indeed there are many more that cannot be alpha'd out with an alpha layer..  especially when it comes to arms and hands as alpha layers can only do both or none,  as there is only one arm on the template to make alphas, and that one arm gets applied to both on the body making it impossible to have a one sleeve dress, or anything asymmetrical having to do with the arms and hands.

Unless you're using a slink body, of course, which do have have the asymmetry harness.

  6. What I've noticed is that a lot of creators dropped even Slink Hourglass in favor of the Legacy. Which makes very little sense from a business perspective. All of these creators also sell all rigs in one box so they have no way of knowing that bodies people buy clothes for.

It's almost certain that legacy is paying them for that support, because I rarely if ever see people actually wearing it (anecdotal, sure, but I've never seen one in the wild...) but why drop a body you already know how to rig for and have a devkit for?

It's one of those mysteries of SL, with plenty of room for tinfoil hats and theories.

The render complexity in itself isn't too bad, the problem is that it doesn't work with fitted mesh.

When LL developed fitted mesh, they made a huge mistake. They forgot that fitted mesh is resized when worn and since isze is such an important factor for render complexity, it means the calculation is way off. CatWa discovered this mistake before LL and rather than report it, they decided to take advantage of it. Other fitmesh makers followed suit and by the time LL caught on to the problem, it was too late.

I don't know exactly what the actual render complexity of a CatWa head is but it has to be well over 100,000 is pribably several hundred thousand and may well be close to a million. With that in mind, cutting it to a third becomes very significant.

Btw, don't blame CatWa for it, they're here to make money not to fix bugs.

That's the sad truth of it, many big creators are here to make money. So they'll use any trick they can regardless of how it affects those of us who actually play the game.

  8. It's not about the complexity, which does not represent actual load accurately. That's why they're reworking it! For now, you can right click and inspect the heads and look at vertices and triangles: the BoM one has a significantly smaller impact on everyone around you. Therefore it's very worth updating to if you care about that kind of thing!

And yes, since BoM only loads one composite texture it means that if someone can see your skin they can also see your tattoos, freckles, scars and whatnot.

  9. With great weeping and clenching of my teeth I've learned to tolerate most no mod products.

But there are some that are practically unusable if they're not modifiable and I wish creators understood this.

Furniture is one. For the love of God, I'm not a three meter tall amazon! I look ridiculous on your megabed and if I can't resize it I can't realistically use it.

Unrigged hair is another. Modify is absolutely needed so I can make it fit or change it to look good under a hood or hat. Or, you know, tint it... Which one often does with hair even in real life. And veeeery few hair makers other than slink allow me to individually color parts of it, on top of that, which I could do with modify as well.

Bonus peeve: no mod products with scripts that don't allow me to delete them. I cannot and will not walk around with several megabytes of unused scripts in my attachments! It makes me feel like an absolute butt when I go to clubs or events! Make them mod or let me delete them some other way, please!

    Phew.

I think that's all the peeves out of my system for a while.

  10. Time for some more peeves:

New skin or makeup releases without system layers. Please, it's been months now, and making a system layer takes maybe five seconds. Offer appliers if you have to but at this point there is no excuse for not having system layers. And on that same topic...

New clothes releases without alpha masks. Screw right off with that unless your rigging is perfect and does in fact not clip anywhere in common animations.

  11. Fancy nails totally matter. Right now I'm using ones with an angular polish so it looks like I carved nails for myself out of a diamond or something.

What I really, truly, desperately want is a pearlescent polish with materials.

On no-fly sims (like 7 Deadly S[k]ins) I make sure I am flying in the previous sim I am on BEFORE I teleport in. Then when I arrive at the no-fly sim, I can still fly straight to the Advent calendar. Much faster than walking.

However, I have now been warned by the CSR that if I fly in 7 Deadly S[k]ins, I will be banned unless I land and walk. Which ticks me right off, but it's their store, and their rules. They have the right to set the rules as they see fit.

Yeah, that place is a little infamous for actually enforcing the no fly rule. I have no earthly idea why a quick flyby purchase would bother them as much as it does. Perhaps flying somehow taints the lindens in their eyes.

(it's also the only reason I don't buy skins from them, even though I like them a lot)
