  1. It's not exactly the right thread for this, but I'll ask anyway - I'm missing two essential wardrobe items for the Lara X: A plain tube dress, and especially jeans with a low waist. Yeah yeah I know ultra high waist is fashionable right now but I need those 90s ones that barely cling to my hips. :P

Has anyone seen either? Preferably with modify perms.

  2. Still barely anything out there for this body. Goes to show even Maitreya can't push out a body with no marketing or events these days and expect success...

So, you want clothing makers to try to sell clothes for a body that doesn't exist yet? There are probably plenty of things that are  ready to be released now that the body's in the wild.

Specifically I want Maitreya to pay creators to have a small catalog ready for launch, like Legacy did. That's probably the only reason Legacy took off at all. A "naked launch" is not great.

For us newbies, should we go directly to LaraX?

Or, given initial differences in rigging, use Lara, then wait and use LaraX for clothes designed specifically for LaraX?

Right now you have choices of like a handful of outfits and nudity if you go for the LaraX, so no. Maybe eventually.

  5. Well, I got the body, and zero clothes for it. There are very few clothes on the marketplace. What am I to do with this, wait a year until at least the basics are available? :P

I don't know why it's so difficult for SL body creators to ensure widespread support on launch day. That's what everyone else in every field does, or they fail.

Have you ever felt emotionally close to someone in 2nd life?  If so, did you consider that a 'real life' relationship?

If I feel close to someone in Second Life and it turns out they're the opposite gender to what I prefer IRL, it specifically shows that their gender isn't relevant on SL, because if it was then I wouldn't have felt close to them for begin with.

It'd only matter if I was planning on something physical.

  7. One of Lara's main strengths is that it has a generation of clothing... so you can get a wide variety of styles for it. Whereas newer output tends to be very "suburban mom" which I guess is just 2020s fashion. Crop tops, cardigans, and waist high jeans shorts.

I haven't found a single pair of low-waisted, flared jeans made for Lara this decennium but I'm old so I demand that style. :P

I think given the market share that people who currently make for Lara 5.3 will quickly switch to making for Lara X. There will be a delay though, no doubt and I'm sure we might also see a period of dual 5.3/X releases.

Gen X hasn't got the market share to begin with because they thought charging $5k (or was it even more? I can't remember) was going to work, if nobody (relatively) owns the body it's not going to be a popular one for creators to spend time rigging for.

Just my thoughts though, I just think the critical part of this being a (major) update that is given to all existing customers for free makes this a bit different to the situation when an entirely new body is launched at a price.

It's a fair point and I do admire your optimism. It would be nice if we all got a new and updated Lara with equal support soon...

Maitreya aren't stupid enough to charge for this, that's the difference.

Every single existing customer gets the update, that is why I'd be extremely surprised if this doesn't result in content being released for it almost immediately.

Yeah, but I'm not going to walk around naked or with one decent outfit over hundreds of quality outfits that match my tastes.

So I won't be able to switch until it has a ton of support already. The Belleza Gen X still doesn't have enough... and unless this one launches with an absolute megaton of clothes it's going to face the same problem even if it's free.

    I think, anyway.

  10. I wonder how many times SL body makers are going to crash face first into the same old design trap. If none of the old clothes fit, it'll take years for this body to take off, if it does at all.

See also: Slink's new bodies (failed), Belleza's new bodies (failed), endless other hopefuls, of which all failed, and notably not Legacy which had the alternative mesh that supported Maitreya clothing.

You're already shifting goal posts. First there are no MMOs where event items are one-time only, now there are games but the "majority" of time-limited items returns. We could already stop here since I've never made a claim about how frequent these items are, but that they exist, and that people would be pissed if they return.

But for the sake of further supporting my argument I forward you to google and Overwatch threads like "Which skins can’t you get anymore?" (https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/which-skins-cant-you-get-anymore/460908). As far as WoW is concerned, there is a vast number of titles you can't get anymore. This starts with every Curve and Cutting Edge title, which naturally can only exist for a certain period of time and you cannot get them afterwards anymore whatsoever. Titles like "The Chosen". Were designed to exist only for a short period of time. You have achievements for logging in during the WoW Birthday. You naturally cannot get these achievements anymore after. Even when the mage tower challenge got brought back (a challenge that is supposed to be as hard as it was back then), you could do it, but you wouldn't get the weapon skins anymore. None of these are ever going to return, and people would be pissed.

Indeed I never denied that in a handful of games, a handful of items might be permanently limited, but generally event items rotate in and out, and nobody cares. There's no particular reason for LL to keep something as basic as names permanently limited, either.

But you know, you can keep arguing for that if you'd like, I don't honestly care that much. Just saying how other games generally do it.

WoW has tons of them. Overwatch has skins that you could only get during a limited time. Not changed by the fact that you made your "no" bold.

And if you think that people in these kind of games don't care, you're wrong.

I've played both. And in both the vast majority of "time-limited" items return frequently. (I can't speak for Overwatch 2, but in the original I certainly had plenty of new chances to get limited skins, same with WoW bar for a small handful of items total)

You can't bring retired last names back.

Psychologically wise they work like achievements/titles in other mmos that you can only get during a certain time and no more afterwards. It becomes special afterwards, even if you didn't have anything to do for it but just were there at the right time. You can like it or not, but this is what happened with the last names, and this is also why Linden jumped on the "new limited last names" train.

You bring them back and you're going to piss off a lot of people.

Rather the opposite, there are basically no MMOs (and I've played entirely too many) where event items are one-time only. They'll always rotate back in with alternative sources later on - and almost nobody cares beyond a couple of loud people.

I guess it's the same as why people pay for extras in Candy Crush or games like that. You don't win stuff in those games either.

I think those give you in-game rewards though, like achievements or medals or the like. So I'd have expected this to give out trinkets and trophies to put in your home.

  15. I went to the casino and uh... I don't get it. You pay real money to play slot machines or blackjack to win fake money that you can't even exchange for token prices.

...so it's purely a "make this number bigger" game, except nobody will even see your number. Absolutely no idea what the target audience for this is. I feel like even addicts want at least shiny prizes.

  16. The gacha ban isn't about ethics, it's about following the letter of the law. Gambling in spirit is very much alive on SL, but that particular form of gambling happened to run afoul of some law so they had to remove it. Note that gachas still exist, too, just rebranded to use a loophole where if you can see the next prize, it doesn't count as gambling - even if the idea is obviously that nobody wants that prize and actually pays for a new random one in queue.

There are also a lot of literal casinos on SL where you do play for money, and these avoid violating the gambling laws by introducing any, no matter how insignificant, "skill" element that influences the outcome by a specific, microscopic amount.

It's the same with this. In the ethical/"spirit" sense it's obviously gambling, but because prizes can't be exchanged for money, it doesn't violate that law. Maybe that helps clarify why they'd launch it.

  17. Being moddable now, I bought the full version of the (classic) body. I will never understand Belleza's scripting. Even stuff like the female-organ animations stop working if you unlink any parts of it, even though there's absolutely no reason that should happen and if the body isn't playing an animation the default state is "gaping wide". Ah well, it's simple enough to script since you have the animations inside the body.

All in all, stripped of what I consider unnecessary parts (YMMV!) the body is 85k triangles, which isn't too bad by SL standards. It's also quite darn beautiful, probably the best shape I've seen for average bodies. That said, it's definitely not worth the full price until there's more clothing support and I frankly have no idea why the price is set so high. 33% off... maybe, if you already have specific compatible outfits in mind.

  18. Really if it wasn't for the colossal posterior on the ebody I'd have switched, if only because it's moddable. It seems like it's set to overtake Legacy as the second biggest body to me. Basically, try a demo first to see if you like the shape and if you do then go for that.

Granted Maitreya has an insanely large back catalog of neat clothes, particularly all the "scene" stuff. You know, the stuff that makes you feel like a cool teenager in the 2000s. Nobody makes that for new bodies :P

  19. One important thing to remember is that not a single place that will ban you purely based on avatar height is actually worth visiting. Nope, none of them, rules like that just instantly display a certain something that shows it's not the kind of location you want to give your traffic or tips to. Prove me wrong. :P

As it stands, they're saying Mod & PG won't be coming out until their first major update is released. No ETA for either one.

This part is so incredibly irritating. Sure, maybe a PG version would be some extra work. But making it modifiable is a single click. Get it out now and then maybe make a really easy-to-use variant later on!

It doesn't look like they've touched the Belleza website since like 2019.. Nothing on youtube that I could find about it either..  Most just like,Gloss over what it's for and more or less just mix it in with a list of stuff that comes with the body..

If I may go on a small tangent here, this is very much a real issue quite a few manufacturers, especially body creators, have on SL. There is a website, but the website has been dead for 2-3 years and/or has no actual information about the body itself.

It feels like they've all just resigned to not having any new customers, only old ones who have been following updates and announcements elsewhere for years, manually piecing things together.

...that approach works for a game like Dark Souls but less so when you're a digital merchant. :P
