I read the responses and was amused at the imagination of what kind of person I am for wanting to block such people. A few posts even suggested ideas about my name, which is actually only an abbreviation of Josephine Marie, my real name.

The reason I want to get away from NPIOFs is mostly because when I am exploring/traveling I've encountered many NPIOFs who were aggressive. The post here that suggested they ask for sex immediately is just about came closest to the issue. They ask for everything- money, too. And do I think these people are actually new? Who would? Recall what it is to be a noob? How likely were you to bounce into SL and start immediately asking for sex and money? Not likely.

Next, when someone here is 12 years old and they have NPIOF in their account, it's kind of obvious they are on an alt. Do I hate them for being on an alt? No. They can be perfectly legitimate, though I personally don't trust them, nor do I care to engage with them.

Soft's last name is Linden, which means he is not only a Linden Lab employee, he also happens to be in charge of security, the very department that implements such "fixes".

Soft will go to bat for you IF the situation calls for it. Your life is not in any kind of danger the way mine was during the RedZone fiasco.

Neither LL, nor Soft, is going to deploy a "feature" simply on the demand of one customer.

SLBN is the CEO Summary blogger feed, something you can put in front of someone with money and say, "Look at what our players are doing in this game." It's curated, it's impressive, with plenty of links to click on and read through.  The more links you post, the less that investor will look up SL feeds elsewhere, and see content that doesn't match the game as well in LL's eyes.

Smart investors will go out of their way to look for precisely the kind of information you say LL wants to hide from them. The more info LL posts, the more those investors will be looking for the fly in the swill. Hiding things from investors never turns out well.

our account payment type/method (premium, piu or npiof) has nothing to do with access maturity ratings. Nobody, including me, has advocated here that our account payment method be tied in this way

I didn't say you or anyone here did.

But if LL keeps taking from basics and giving to premiums (like they have already done and tried to do recently) that will be one of the steps taken. One CEO already tried to completely do away with basics. There's good reasons why it didn't happen. A huge chunk of LL's income would disappear.

is to change the rating of contiguous regions

whether under 18s should be on the grid or not is a whole other debate, which was debated in depth by lots of people back in 2010.  Linden chose to allow under 18s on the grid.  My view is that, as under 18s are allowed on the grid, then how might the grid be arranged to present a consistent view and expectation for each level

i am not adverse to a change in the rating system.  Has been previous discussion about the difference between Sex and Violence. Scylla has had a lot to say on this, as have others. Sex is not the same as Violence. After listening to the conversations about this then I get the distinction. So rather than A which lumps the two together then I would like a V rating added.  G M A V

i am not sure there should be a PG rating in SL.  Stuff is either ok for all (G) or its not. PG means Parental Guidance. I am not sure that parents of teenagers on SL should be confronted with this option. On SL. for their under 18  children, it's G or nothing

I know what PG stands for.  I wasn't saying LL absolutely must use PG but something like it.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Apparently some premiums just aren't going to be happy until everything in SL is a premium perk and basics no longer exist. We can all say goodbye to SL at that point.

So they're kidnapping women and holding them against their will? You should probably report them to the police.

Not the people I know.  They don't do that.

That is not to say it hasn't happened or won't happen again. Back before SL ever existed there was a man who did exactly that and then hunted those women with bow and arrow. He lived the Gorean lifestyle in RL. There have been many since him.

Here's one kajira who lives the lifestyle in real life: https://thereallifekajira.wordpress.com/about/

this is the reality now on G-rated regions. And has been since January 2011. It has been this way for over 8 years, and nobody who engages in G rated activities on G rated regions has a problem with this

those who did have a problem with this back in the day, moved to M or A regions. M and A being for adults only

I go to all 3 just as many others do. There's no reason we can't have adult G rated regions as well as M and A along with the kids having their own continent.

You say no adults on G rated regions has a problem with being completely cut off from the majority of other adults. Sorry, not buying it. Show me some evidence to back that claim up with please. I mean hard evidence, not just a few disgruntled people complaining about SL sex.

The simplest, easiest, most cost efficient way is to create a teen continent and leave the rest of SL for the adults with all ratings intact and without needing to rate every continent which, frankly, I doubt LL would be willing to do. The system they have already in place works, although I do think there should be at least one more category. I've always felt the old movie style ratings were best, G, PG, R and X. Which in SL speak would be G, PG, M and A.

i was working from the current rules for having an sccount

    18+ maingrid level access. G + M + A

    16-17. maingrid level G

13-15. restricted private estate level G. The restricted private estate level G also allows 16+ accounts including adults, access as invited by the estate owner. To get this kind of estate, Linden have rules governing RL identity

at the moment 16-17 yo's  can go to any G rated region on the grid

my view is that while under 18s (16-17s) are allowed to have an account with this access level, then all of the G mainland regions should be on a continent of their own

edit add: what I am advocating is that the inworld view for the different levels should be consistent for the residents. A practical way to do this is by continent ratings

So you want the adults who are not interested in A ratings to be forced to deal with kids? That isn't going to work. The only real solution is total separation of adults from kids which means the kids have their own continent while the adults have what we have now. One continent for the underaged, rated G, is more than sufficient. No need to change anything else.

What are your graphics settings? Shadows are probably a bit beyond that CPU’s capability. If you’re comfortable working on your own computer (which I assume you are since your have a 3 year old graphics card in a ten year old computer) I’d look up upgrading that CPU to a faster Xeon if the motherboard can handle it.

I run a 1050 OC at Ultra-High so shadows are on and the card is capable.

if Super Duper Premium account needed to log in with such a LL viewer then I be into that.  Even if it was closed source

I really do wish premium accounts would stop ostracizing basics and trying to keep us from having a business in SL when we do contribute, whether directly or indirectly to the wellbeing of SL and its economy.

I'm not saying it is done on purpose. Most premium don't stop to think about the implications or repercussions of excluding basics from being able to enjoy most of the same privileges that premiums do. Premiums already have lots of perks basics don't.

Or are people really wanting the same equality gap that we have in RL to exist in SL? If so, good job! You've succeeded. SL has only upper and lower classes now, aka premium and basic, respectively.

effectively this what Sharp continent is.  A grid within the main grid which is accessible to under 18 and is family accessible. The use of it for this purpose could be enhanced. Is more how the grid is thought about I think. Were G rated regions sectioned off into there own continent (similar to how A-rated Zindra is) then it would provide a more consistent view of the inworld for everyone, no matter what level we prefer for ourselves

We've already had one separate Teen grid that was shoved off on all the adults when LL shut it down. Why on earth would we need another one?

Honestly, SL is no place for someone who is under 18. It was never intended for children. IMO, it should be 18 and over only. And if they want a place for the underaged, they can bring back the Teen grid.

When things aren't broken you don't fix them LL! Teen Grid wasn't broken!

If they can give the underaged a continent of their own that is not accessible by over 18s, I'm all for it. Just don't take away the adult G rated regions. They have their place and purpose.

All it took was your IP address?

To give him the general geographical location, yes. There are plenty of programs out there (and have been for decades) that allow someone to nearly pinpoint your location by IP. It's not hard to find the public records from there.

It can be used to determine if two accounts are yours, yes (with some level of accuracy. It isn't impossible that two users share a location or PC). But unless you are using alts for reasons that are begging for such karma, so what?

You've never been stalked in RL/online have you. I have. For more than 20 years. The only thing that stopped him was death.
