  1. Ditto - just hangs on login screen. I do show that Linden posted a new status at 7:05 PST: "We are aware many users are still experiencing intermittent log in issues, and our engineers are working towards recovery as quickly as they can."
  2. I came in during SL's high watermark in 2007 and was quickly hooked despite the steep learning curve. The first few years I was totally addicted (hours a day) but my interest started waning in 2010 and pretty much went into semi-active check-in status up until this year when I decided to binge a bit. The immersive free-form concept and endless variation is what keeps me tethered, and SL has aged like fine wine.
  3. Very disappointed to see this policy implemented with no restriction on the minimum size of the parcel. Linden is now selling abandoned micro-parcels (e.g. 16 sqm) and as Linden should know, these type of micro-parcels were used for years to create unsightly ad farms with no zoning restrictions, and the parcels were often for land extortion purposes. It took years for Linden to take notice until the land values plummeted, and they finally took some action to deter the land cutting. Now it seems that lesson has been forgotten and Linden is on the path to recreating the situation that helped lead to the mainland becoming a wasteland that drove away residents. You can't figure out a way to automatically re-join all the adjacent abandoned land in a region and sell it as a whole? In any event, a JIRA has been created to address this new problem. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6963
  4. Can you explain in more detail how you lost the money?
  5. It's possible that you've attempted to buy more Linden than is authorized for new residents and the limits are relatively small compared to residents that are at least a month old - see: https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/describe-limits.php?
  6. First, check http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ to see the current status of Second Life. Assuming your friends are logging in, it's likely the problem is on your end but you mentioned issues with specific sims. Have you tried logging into different simulator regions? For example, trying setting your start region to Ahern, Carnapt, or some other region name you know. To do that, you need to set your viewer preferences to show the start location on login (Me, Preferences, check 'show on login') and than select "type in region name" from the 'start at' box next to the login information. Assuming that doesn't work, it's remotely possible that you've changed your firewall settings and have somehow blocked SL logins - not likely but check your security software. You may have accidently enabled logging into a different grid besides the main Second Life Grid known as Agni. If you see a grid name box below the 'start at' box, make sure the name selected is Agni and not some other grid name. Try to uninstall and reinstall Second Life. Google 'uninstall reinstall second life' and select the first result which is an old Second Life wiki instruction on how to do it. All that doesn't work and it's probably an account problem and you will have to submit a support ticket - see: https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ -
  7. It's sad to watch Linden repeatedly reshuffle the same deck of dwindling cards.
  8. First, with respect to the JIRA and the move to remove the voting feature - it's a good idea and a very bad idea. Good in the sense that there should never have been voting for bug reports; a bug should either be validated and fixed or it should be closed for appropriate reasons such as unable to reproduce or not a bug, etc. Sad to say, Linden was using the voting feature to avoid fixing bugs that have been on the books for years. Very bad in the sense that there should be voting for new feature requests which if incorporated, will potentially impact every user and Linden should be using the voting to gauge customer desire for or against the change. In fact, the voting should be expanded to vote yes or vote no. And that leads to my comment on your shuffle the deck communications changes. You should have used the JIRA to offer up these feature changes before they were implemented to get the customer's input and ironically, these communication changes reinforce the notion that you're not really interested in hearing from the customers except in a highly constrained and selective manner such as these user groups that we can't join unless we know the special handshake? Where are the direct join links for each of these groups? As for Facebook, that's a major disconnect because it's a first life social network and go figure, many of your customers bought into your name and promise of a second life that is separate and distinct from their first life. Not to mention, how do we know who's a Linden on your facebook page? Are we suppose to know your real names now?
  9. For those asking to restore local lights, make sure you're voting and following https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-157 - Linden did add it back in one of the Project Viewers (Mesh) but it's not in the dev viewer.
  10. Unless the new viewers are widely adopted, the display names is a moot point.
  11. The greatest problem I see with using the display names is the fact that the display name user has no idea which name other AVs are seeing them as. Even if everybody used the viewer that shows the display names, they have the option to not display them (righthly so) and it will cause nothing but confusion as people will either see them as their original name, display name, or both. What's the point if I don't know which name that people are seeing me as? Also, there's a bug (hopefully) where the web dashboard only shows the display name under the friendlist with no option to see the real name. That's not good - see: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-3200
