  1. I appreciate your comments for sure. Would hair bases for men of color work? I have seen some braids close to the head as hairbases or simply short curlier cuts for African-American men. I am not sure what Latino men have for hair that is not available... can you share more?
  2. At the threat of exposing myself (and others.. hehe) to shame, I am showing you early looks from two of today's Fashion Experts.. First me, from May 2007: That was in my pretty Gala Phoenix/Gala skin with hair from Elikapeka Tiramisu/ETD, my first dress from June Dion/Bare Rose and shoes from Sarah Nerd (which blinged!) (Think about this--these folks are all STILL here!) I was always a redhead. It just suited me. It wasn't until I started my blog that I tried other colors and it still took me a while to get used to being blonde. This is a photo of Frolic Mills from December, 2007, that I found last night. He had already adopted his handsome silver-haired look and dark good looks (in front of a build by Scope Cleaver for, I think, one of Frolic's first BIG fashion shows): Oh boy, 2007. We are OLD. ;) Let's see your SL childhood looks. How are they the same and different today?
  3. So who do you like specifically, Cam?
  4. Excellent points. I know that Ramses Meredith at Egoisme has a new skin with some of those factored in--like a shaved eyebrow on a tattoo layer, more body hair, etc. But some of the detail of the body would be fabulous on a body-length tattoo.
  5. The guys from Menstuff wanted me to post something. I am gonna ask you guys, what would you like more of in men's fashion? My friend, Mr Oh, suggested he would like more interchangability. Specifically, it frustrates him when he can not wear a shirt by one maker under a suit by another maker either because lapels are stuck together to collars or layers can't be used together. What do menswear makers need to keep in consideration?
  6. I know some folks are working on employing mesh with other prims and sculpties. The problem right now is the mesh is not resizable, which is causing some consternation and disappointment among builders and users alike. Maxwell Graf submitted a jira that addresses this. He acknowledges that the solution may be costly to SL but he is holding out hope they will implement it. I am pretty confident either way that people will innovate to combo the elements once they find workarounds. I remember when sculpties seemed like stiff little blobs and now people use them in the most amazing ways in SL, combo'd with regular prims, flexis, etc.
  7. Groups and group chat have become increasingly popular in SL over the past couple years. 8. Hey, everyone! I was honored to be asked to participate in the Fashion Expert event today, and I am here to listen and ask questions myself. I am a blogger for A Passion for Virtual Fashion. For over 2 years, I have been blogging almost daily to talk about avatars, fashion, and life. One of the things that interests me personally is the issue of race in SL. We live in an international community, so we should be presumably be prepared to embrace the people of the world, and we do but representation here in SL is sorely behind. I have two questions: 1. Do you represent as a race you're not in RL? (And does it matter?) and 2. Can you find good skins, shapes, etc, in SL to achieve this. I will throw my hat in the ring with a blog I did about Mollena Williams, real woman--Afrocan-American--and an internet netizen who stumbled across my blog previously. I was thrilled to find a skin that was not a white skin darkened and a shape that worked.
  9. SL has become very competitive. Finding blogs that will show off your work and give it exposure help to get the ball rolling. Make sure your brand and a lm to it is prominent in your profile (I just went to look and am struggling to see what you make at all). Should be the first thing in your picks... Joining Fashion Consolidated is also a way to get the word out there. Lots think it's got too much but it still has a large membership that is hungry for new content. Get in other groups like MENstuff or WOMENstuff, which have periodic hunts. Put out a freebie with a lm over at FabFree Headquarters (contact Renee Lowenhart). Join groups that are specific to your niche (which is kind of rockabilly). For example, you would not be in a group that Azul would be in..... You might find a group that Ingenue is in or JetDoll or Artilleri.... Watch what designers you admire are doing and mimic their actions. (But don't copy their work ) I visited your store. You need MORE content first You have to put as much time into promotion as you do on making product. If you can't hire someone to...
  10. I am going to chime in with my Old Standby from Baiastice (that may not even be available anymore but gosh I love it...)
  11. Strawberry! I promise not to ask weird questions on your day if you promise not to ask weird ones on mine
  12. Thanks, Wildcat And thank you for helping me! Blog is completed!
  13. I look forward to talking to all of you at Fashion Expert Days!
  14. I look forward to talking to all of you at Fashion Expert Days!
  15. I am flattered to be in the company of such august fashionistas. I can't wait to chat with everyone about fashion and pick up new ideas!
  16. I would recommend BoHo HoBo. She has some pretty nice stuff and it goes to help women in Afghanistan.
  17. Welcome, Kim! Hope you get a chance to get in world and meet the very committed enthusiasts of Second Life. This is great news for Linden Lab. They were sorely in need of fresh marketing direction. Best of luck!
