  1. Given this is the mainland forum, I'm going to assume you rented on the mainland... so remember that even if you're banned from that parcel, you can just teleport in nearby and cam in to get your stuff.

  2. I've never had a mall spot that made any money. I don't do that anymore. Limited time events can be good though and will drive traffic to your main store (put landmarks in each product, have a landmark giver, take part in any hunts for the event). Make sure you're set up on the marketplace as well.

A tip jar in a shop is unlikely to get money unless you're offering something that isn't a product for sale. Freebies, art displays... that sort of thing.

Yes some items well look strange because the creator had used material settings that under the new system have far too much reflections on them - that's not a problem with EEP though really.

They've confirmed some of the issues are bugs and are going to be fixed, so it is a problem with EEP. That means it isn't a good idea to remake everything right now, because it's just going to change again.

Everyone DOES have a choice of course. They can go or not go. It isn't like a required event - LOL.   Personally I think this round was better lag-wise than the previous events. And having more sims evened out the visitors even at the beginning. I never saw many folks in the overflow areas -- and didn't expect to with twice as many shops to peruse.

The extra shops did help a lot and meant the range of stuff was better (a complaint I had last year... this year I got a bunch of cute pets and decor things). The soft opening was also nice. Doesn't hurt to offer some lag feedback though, as it might be the Moles will be able to pinpoint what's going wrong in the laggiest region.

  5. I went around on the soft opening day. It was mostly fine, but a few regions did lag more than others, which suggests something in those builds was setting it off (Aurelian was laggy for me as well). Which isn't to say I think the mall building is perfect. The ponds act as avatar traps. But the regions are pretty identical, so that lag difference was most likely down to merchant builds.

There's truth there, but how do you tell who is a "regular group member"?

Even in long-standing help groups, that's difficult. On what I have seen of this year's SL17B groups, even the "official" post warning of events have been spammy in style:  multiple lines of uninformative "decoration", and little or no information about about what style of music the DJ or Live Performer is presenting.

It's pretty easy to tell who is a moderator in a group. Even if you don't have a viewer that shows moderator text differently, they'll be listed in the group information. Once you know who is a moderator, the regular members are everybody else. But you really don't need to worry about that if you follow my advice, because you'll have stopped the rulebreaking thing regardless of whether a person turns out to have the power to ban you or not.

I'd agree that the events posts are terrible and should say what the event is in normal words and not use weird characters... but that's a different issue and might be better for a general SL17B feedback thread.

  7. I'd stay on the cautious side of behaviour when it comes to big event groups. They get griefed a lot and tolerance levels for rulebreaking are often very low. Which is why I wouldn't ignore regular group members, thinking that you'll get a proper warning from a moderator... often you'll just find you're banned. Those warnings from regular members are letting you know so that you can avoid that.

  8. In theory, it might be it's working, but I couldn't figure out how to link my mesh thing to the skeleton. It didn't appear to have the button you click in the previous version. I ended up reverting Blender to the previous version and doing the same for Avastar.

I'm sure once it's finished it'll be lovely and have documentation, but it was unclear to me if it was working and how it was supposed to work.

  9. One issue is that this will need a lot of your time. That might sound fine now, but might not in six months when you have to move house and your cat gets sick. Something that doesn't need you there as intensively, like selling things or renting out space, would give you more safety for things going wrong. Sometimes you'll need a break.

I'll give you a good example of a few weeks ago when i was in 7 deadly skins.. a store that has head to toe skins.. people undressing and testing demos and whatnot.. but a male toddler was there (not kid, a toddler) .. so is everyone meamt to stop what their doing? Is it inappropriate to be trying skins on with a toddler around? Did the toddler have a mother there? Was the toddler on its own? .. most importantly.. WHY was a toddler in an ADULT store that is marked as Mature.

Skin stores aren't adult content under the rules. Nudity is not considered sexual by default under the rules. There are obviously examples where people break the rules with child avatars, because people get banned for it sometimes... but going shopping for new skins is not one of those cases.

Being a pretend child isn't my thing either, but you have to separate between "this is not for me" and "this is bad because it's not for me".

If you peruse that website, I think you'll agree that some of the examples others brought here under the guise of ASMR would not be recognized as such by ASMR University.

If you're talking about ASMR as the reaction in a person, anything could cause ASMR in a particular person. You couldn't say for a sure that a particular video couldn't possible do that, as it's very individual.

Whether it's ASMR as in the genre of videos is a different issue, because a fair number of people who watch/make ASMR videos get a different response to them. It ended up as a catch-all term for certain types of sensory video.

I personally don't experience ASMR, but I have sensory processing disorder and one of the ways I stim is through audio/visual things with repeated elements. ASMR videos often hit that perfectly. Which means I watch a lot of ASMR and I make my own, but not due to getting tingles. My own response is more that it helps me regulate sensory information and avoid overloads.

I don't like eating videos or slime much. I like tapping, crinkling paper, clinks of glass and china, and that sort of sound. My favourite roleplays are tea parties and sketching, as they generally have a lot of the background sounds I like. I disliked the whispering at first, though I've gotten used to it... I'd still take no talking or soft spoken over whispering given a choice.

  12. It doesn't say that the planned themes will happen in 2020 and certainly not that they're going to be next week. Remember that the quick releases after the demo happened in cases where they'd already started preparing the final areas. This time around, that hasn't happened.

Others might come from cultures where a short, not to intrusive meet and greet is considered a minimum social requirement to start a conversation, it is considered polite. Think of Britain for example. Small talk is mandatory there.

If you run a business in Second Life (like myself) it could also be counter-productive to ignore people. Do I know if that person is maybe a potential big scale advertiser?

I did have a chuckle at the idea that "hi" would be an unmissable business opportunity, because that's never happened to me in thirteen years. Events and the like just send a notecard. It is often customers though, so like I said, I do respond...

However, don't do thirty minutes of small talk before getting to the point simply because I'm British and you think it's mandatory. It isn't rude to say, "Hi, my product didn't deliver, here's the transaction ID." Getting to the point in the first message is perfectly fine and gets the problem solved much faster.

I don't think super premium will give a full region for free or almost free or very very very cheap with no or almost no tier charges or fees.

This would be what I'd want too and I also don't think that's happening... but I wouldn't mind some more tier to expand a bit on the mainland if the price was right. Also, three animesh attachments.

OK...are there any other Linden homes called "Chesapeake"? Cause a store that sells Linden Home add-ons is at the Shop and Hop, and they have an addition for a home called "Chesapeake"...

The exhibitors and merchants don't know anything secret about new themes... anything for sale is for an existing house. Trust me on not everything being a clue. The stuff other residents have done is simply down to the summer holidays theme of the event.

  16. I took dumping people at the tents as a joke (you're camping out waiting for the new region to appear). I wouldn't assume that the other regions have anything to do with the new theme or that they are secretly clues. The Linden Homes demo is part of the birthday, not the whole birthday.

  17. I don't do the every month style events as I don't fit in for other reasons, so I wouldn't take not hitting the criteria as anything personal. Generally there are more options in the less frequent events, though you've missed most of RFL this year (Home and Garden Expo was early this year, so look out towards the end of this year for announcements about next year). The Linden's Shop and Hop doesn't restrict type of product, though they are hard to get into (I got in for the first time this year) and the next likely won't be until Christmas.

My main advice is you could do with more products in your marketplace store and maybe have a range where the textures really pop rather than tintables. It's not that the tintables are bad, but you want people to see at a glance what you can do with textures.

How in the world do you get a *peeve* thread locked??????

I wondered this and it looks like it's because it turned into an ASMR thread, so my peeve is why didn't people start an ASMR thread so we could talk about our favourite stuff. But no, it got hidden in a random long thread where most people wouldn't look and then got locked for being off-topic, so I have peeves people. So many peeves!

I still don't like it when fly gets turned off in places. That's my eternal pet peeve.

SL17B Enchant has been detached from the rest of the Linden SL17B regions, which I interpret as another indication that it will be a new Belli theme reveal region.  Also, the deadline for SL17B resident builds to complete is fast approaching.   I conjecture that once the resident builds are complete, LL will join the two SL17B areas, leaving Enchant detached until the combined SL17B area is closed to visitors.  Or something like that :)

It'd be good if that is the case, as I'm hoping we'll still be able to get to our builds after the merge, to make sure it didn't break anything. We're sworn to secrecy and all that, but not being able to mention the new house theme would be a big ask of people... easier if we simply don't know along with everyone else.

Polenth, as a shape shifter in SL I am aware of the various types of avatars including short ones and trust me I do understand various species and such have different sizes and heights...my main concern is staying in LL tos on the sim and not having no troubles. Our staff on the sim I manage is well aware of the variety and no bans happen without just cause but we also do not want to get into trouble with Linden Labs for anything either which is why I been working to figure out how to classify things in order to prevent any issues from happening that breaks rules yet stays fair to all forms of life in SL.

Keep in mind that virtual child activities are restricted as part of the protection of real children from harm. Real children are human. The greater the difference between an avatar and a human, and the harder it is to tell if they're intending to be a child, the more likely it is that you are not going to get in trouble for not knowing that avatar was a child after all.

Some furries are edge cases because they have human bodies with an animal head stuck on. But a child of that type of avatar is still likely to ping your looks-like-a-human-child senses, in a way that an avatar with a more animal-like body will not. It's looking like a human child that is the big thing here.

  21. There are only facts for human avatars. If they look like a human child, they are a child. They can't roleplay a thousand year old vampire or anything like that. Looks are all that matter for human (and similar) children.

Nothing is officially stated for non-humans, so the rest will be my opinion as a small mushroom, as I don't want to be banned whenever I take part in a hunt. My suggestion is that if the avatar is not human and doesn't seem to be taking part in anything adult (for example, they are clearly there for a hunt or shopping) you don't worry about it. If they do something that would get a child banned, ask them directly if they are a child.

I get that there are concerns. You don't know if the slime blob avatar has a dummy because they're a baby or because they just ate a baby. However, you're not going to be able to come up with a list of set rules for it... you're going to have to look at what's in front of you, ask them, and make your best judgement.

Just don't start banning people randomly for being short and cute. There was a trend of banning all short avatars for a bit and it was very silly.
