  1. Was the account recently reactivated after a long time of being closed? If so, there is a situation that happens sometimes where they reactivate an account and it somehow gets assigned to two different inventory servers at the same time. The effect is that every time you log in you see yourself as a default avatar, you only have the default inventory, and even if you buy new stuff the next time you log in it is gone and you are back to newbie avatar again. It can be fixed, but the Lindens have to do it. You need to contact support and if that's the case they can 'merge' the two inventories and everything should be there.
  2. The cost of the parcel all depends on what the owner of the estate decides they want to charge. For me the formula is simple. I take how much I pay to Linden Lab in monthly tier fees, divide by how many parcels I have and add a little cushion to cover times when the lots may sit unrented. You won't find many places that rent lots with that many prims for that little. The L$300 a week bonus you get as a premium member starts the first Tuesday after you upgrade. So, you'll get it tomorrow.
  3. It's not automatic. You have to sell your L$ and then request to process the USD credit on your account to a paypal account. They don't all *need* to be under your primary avatar, but it would be easiest to do it that way all at once than to do separate transaction for each avatar.
  4. It's a bug in 2.1 I think. I can turn off nearby local lighting in my preferences but not re-enable it afterward. Try setting the slider at the top to Mid or better, then dial back the options you don't want. That should turn it on for you.
  5. If your account is held for no-payment changing your plan won't help. Changing your billing info might. The bottom line is as long as you owe LL money your account will be held and any new alts you make can be held too.
  6. One drawback to this method is if the box is copyable when you rez it and open it you still have a copy in your inventory, which means if something happens to the item you essentially have a backup. If you wear the box and open it, it does not make a copy of the original box, so if you muck something up you are out of luck. Just something to keep in mind.
  7. Or to put it more simply... If you gasp and cover your eyes at the sight of a flasher he wins. If you point and laugh hysterically, you win.
  8. Engage a lawyer I'm sure nothing would please a troll more than knowing they rattled your cage enough that you actually spent $ (LOTS of $$$$) to hire an attorney. Have them write to Linden Lab for this person's RL contact details They won't give that information to you or your lawyer with a reason that protects them from prosecution. The only way they will disclose the personal private information on who owns the account in the case of accused harassment is if it is requested by a legal authority (i.e. a court order). That is even assuming they actually *have* his RL contact details and he didn't just register his account as "Mr Fur Burger from Crackho, Mississippi" Take them to court I for one would love to see that episode of Judge Judy. Seriously. Obtain a restraining order against them Hmmm... The chances that he lives anywhere near you border on the infinitesimal. Let's get an order saying he cannot come within 50 feet of you. Oh yes, that is helpful. And what if they aren't in the same country. Where are you going to go with that? The Hauge? Contact the police when they persist So they can pretend to care someone on the other side of the country/world is calling you names on the interwebs. Have them jailed and executed! (both of which are about as likely) Seriously, the reality is it will likely never get to any stage where this person will have to answer to anyone. But for the sake of argument let's assume you actually DO get a restraining order. At that point all he has to do is leave you alone from that point on and he can laugh his a$$ off and tell his friends how he we able to push your buttons so well you spent hundreds or thousands of real dollars (not to mention all the time involved) to serve him with a restraining order from halfway across the country. These are the sort of things trolls live for.
  9. Like the others said, there isn't much you can do realistically. And if it is outside of Second Life then complaining to the Lindens won't get you anywhere because they couldn't do anything about it if they wanted to. Ignoring them is actually the best option. Part of the reason they do it is because they know they are getting to you. Once they see you're ignoring them they will really lay it on in an attempt to get a reaction out of you but if they consistently fail to get a rise out of you they should eventually get bored and go away. It's not your fault it's a poison well, but it is your fault if you keep drinking there. Know what I mean?
  10. The way you are using your "business alt" is a violation of the Terms of Service. Accounts cannot be shared and cannot be transferred to another individual without doing so through Linden Lab. Not to mention the fact that as far as LL is concerned you and your business partner's computers are now going to be forever tied together through this alt now. Meaning, if one of your partners gets their account held or suspended your account could be held as well since to Linden Lab it looks like you are all possibly the same person. If that happens you'll have to go through the long and painstaking process of trying to prove you are not the same person. That's why sharing or giving away accounts is generally not allowed in the first place.
  11. You *can* do it, sort of. If you run your own audio stream and place it on your land AND the person is on your land AND is the only one listening to the stream it is possible to see the IP of the computer connecting to your stream and guess that the IP is probably theirs. Is it foolproof? No. You don't know for sure if that is the person listening. Is it against the TOS? No. You aren't hacking anything to find it. What can you do with that info? Not much. The others are correct that it doesn't give you any personal information on the individual. All it does at most it give you a general idea of what area of the world they are located. IP switching and spoofing is so easy anyway it's pointless to go through all that effort.
  12. Without making any excuses for the person who did this I have to object to adding hyperbole to the reality of what happened here. Using words like "attack" and "rape" to describe having a scripted attachment touched without permission in a virtual world while you are sitting at home, safe and sound behind your computer does a disservice to the seriousness of what those words are meant to stand for. Referring to something as trivial in comparison to the real thing as having a scripted naughty part clicked on as "harassment" or "rape" detracts from the impact of the true act those words actually describe. Anyone who has been harassed or attacked in real life; where you cannot tp away, where people know who you are, where your life or livelyhood is actually being threatened, where you are truly powerless to make them stop is VERY different from what happens in a virtual world where none of these things genuinely apply. Yes, it is annoying. Yes, it is wrong. Yes, it is frustrating. But to refer to it in the same terms as a real life attack is, in my view, offensive to many of those who have experienced the real thing. I would ask everyone to please stop it. My recommendation is to read the instructions first before putting something so personal on. As many have said, most of these items have a feature that turns them off or limits the individuals allowed to use them to avoid the very situation you describe.
  13. If you're going to give a bogus answer then make it a bogus answer you'll remember.
  14. The whole point of a security question is it is something only you would (or should) know so if something happens and you need to prove your account really is yours you can do that. You would need that in case someone, say... steals your password. If they make it possible to log in with your password and change it that sort of defeats the purpose doesn't it? I had a friend who had his account stolen that way. They guessed his password, changed his email and logged into his account. He had to call Linden Lab to prove his identity to get it back. The way you do that is with the security question. If you don't have one I imagine you can contact them and set one up, but frankly if you made an account and used bogus info you don't remember and don't remember the security question either you're going to have a problem I think.
