Maestro, any news as to when the current serious problems with sim crossings caused by last weeks Grid Roll are going to be fixed?

Dagger, I suppose you mean the BUG-1814 issue with interest list subscription following some region crossings in a vehicle, which people have posted to the last few deploy threads about? I don't have any news about that, except that we're still investigating it.

  2. Happy March!

Thanks again for responding to this issue  :matte-motes-smile:

Is there any place/link where we can see the

Yes, I expect a fix will be tagged with BUG-1814 in the release notes.  Unfortunately, there's no way for most people to view the Jira itself, though.

  4. Wolfbaginski, Ayesha, Atashi: yes, the issue does appear to be related to the interest list changes.  It seems that after some sim crossings, a vehicle's passenger won't have the vehicle in their interest list.  The result is that the viewer doesn't get any object updates about the vehicle, and instead extrapolates the velocity of it by default.

For some reason airplanes seem to be most affected - this might be caused by the high speeds (relative to other vehicle types), or possibly elevation.  I read a suggestion that selecting the vehicle fixes causes object updates to happen again - this makes sense for an interest list bug, since selected objects are treated specially in the interest list.

Hi dd, as I say in my post every week, you should file a Jira about specific issues.  Luckily, somebody else (Aeon Voom) has filed BUG-1814 about this issue.

  6. This week in server releases is action-packed, with an update to the main channel and 3 new projects for RC.

    Second Life Server (main channel)

The main channel is getting the server maintenance project that was on all three RC channels last week.  This project onloy contains a fix to a single crash mode.

    Maestro -

How can I be getting an error message, "This Region (Mainland) Is not running any scripts?"

It's where I live, have proper group permissions, etc.  About land says scripts are enabled.

I've PM'd the location to you, I don't want to publicly post my home location here.

    Thanks.

Hi Perrie, sometimes support disables scripts in mainland regions to clean up griefer objects.  If your region still has scripts disabled now, you should file a ticket at http://support.secondlife.com/

  8. Hi Erick, I visited Alphubel from your video and region crossed into Cochrane a few times, using a variety of vehicles: 'A4C Skyhawk VA15 1.1', 'F-117A NightHawk 1.0', 'M1151 HMMWV 1.0.2', 'SW-319 v1.0 Blue & Grey', and '[aR] Mesh Expedition Station Wagon v1.6'.  I did not encounter the problem you describe.

Erick and Eric, this is worth a Jira if you can reproduce it in a supported viewer (your video showed either a TPV or the 1.23 viewer, neither of which is supported).  In your report, you should note the following:

    * Some example time stamps of your crossings and the names of the regions involved

    * Attached a copy of your viewer's Secondlife.log from that session.  This page describes where to find those log files: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3

    * Note whether this issue occurs with any vehicle or just specific vehicles.  Does it happen with the 'Kart 1.0' from Library?  If it's only happening with specific vehicles, please provide instructions about how to obtain them.

  9. Darrius: which places in particular seem to have dropped off of search?  This doesn't appear to be a universal problem; I just tried searching for 'fun times' on search (everything category), and the first 2 results are for parcels on "Second Life Server" regions (regions 'Somewhere in Time ' and 'Coral Tropics').

Star: You should contact support at https://support.secondlife.com/ against the region you were 'stuck' in before.  It's likely that the specific region/sim host requires intervention.

A quick comment.  A few weeks back one of the Server Updates to LeTigre RC caused the SL wind velocity to rise dramatically, affecting any flexi items that responded to wind.  You may recall that I raised the issue with regard to the "egyptian tent" on our sim (Woods of Heaven sim 9030 Le Tigre RC).

That past week I have been carefully watching it and it seems to me that the issue has returned with the update of 21st, ie that last roll.

Whether this was intentional or a reversion I do not know but it needs attention.

Also while I am here and since the support website is currently unreachable, will you PLEASE pass a message on to support that since the introduction of adverts on your company's webpages, the site's performance is dreadful.

Hi Ayesha, I did look into the windspeed after your initial report a few weeks ago, sampling it in the new interest list sim and the 'old' sim about 20,000 times, and I found that the average wind speed was very similar (the newer version had a slightly lower average windspeed, but the difference wasn't statistically significant).  It was important to sample over several hours, since sim wind follows a very long cyclical pattern.

The LeTigre 13.02.15.270481 update did introduce the interest list changes compared to the previous version (the changes are detailed in the SLS release notes here), but the average speed over the whole cycle should be the same.  If you suspect wind speed has changed, you can sample it on Aditi's SLS channel (which is still on the old 13.01.25.269523 version currently).

  11. Second Life Server (main channel)

The main channel is getting the server maintenance project which was on all three RC channels last week.  This project has miscellaneous bug fixes, along with a slightly better restart notification (which will only be apparent when this new version restarts for the next update):

Second Life RC BlueSteel, Second Life RC LeTigre, Second Life RC Magnum:

All three RC channels are once again sharing the same server maintenance project.  The only change with this new maintenance project is a fix for a crash mode.

I am seeing what I must assume to be a side-effect of the Interest List.  This is all in deferred mode (ie Shadows and Lights)

If I look away from my home while shadows are cast towards me, I see the shadow of a partially rezzed building.  Just what rezzes is a bit random, but the shadow faithfully reproduces that which is rezzed.

If I then turn so that I am looking at the building, it will then rez and the shadow is that of the fully rezzed building.

This may be unavoidable due to the way the viewer and sim code works, but it is surely undesireable?

Location: Woods of Heaven, LeTigre RC, sim no 9030.

Yes, that does sound like a side effect of the interest list's optimization of not showing objects which aren't (directly) in view.  I forwarded your comment to the interest list update team, though I can't immediately think of a non-taxing solution for off-camera objects which cast large shadows within the camera's view.

I'm not sure you appreciate my point: Server Version13.02.5.270481 is in every way that I can see identical to that rolled to LeTigre last week!!

So I ask again, in the case of LeTigre, what's new? In this case I cannot for the life of me see what is being rolled that is different.  Is this (in the case of LeTigre anyway) simply a roll to do a restart?

(I do aknowledge the value of the weekly restart by the way!)

Ah, the only changes between RC LeTigre 13.02.07.27012 and 13.02.15.270481 are the ones that were introduced to the main channel:

    https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/13#13.02.08.270166

So the short answer to your question is that it now includes the interest list improvement changes and simulator support for normal and specular maps.

  14. The server deploy schedule for this week is delayed a day from the normal schedule, due to a US holiday on Monday (President's Day).

    Second Life Server (main channel)

The main channel is getting the interest list improvement project which has been on Magnum for the past few weeks.

In addition to the interest list changes, this version adds support for normal and specular maps.  This blog post has more information about the project.  The next step is to release a project viewer, which will allow users to try out this new functionality.

  15.

BlackMagi: that slowness sounds like general network slowness. The interest list changes only pertain to Magnum at this point, and inventory fetching uses a totally different subsystem.

Qie: yes, we should update the wiki regarding the IM limit. I suppose we could add a warning tag at this point, but I'm not familiar with which wiki template would be used for that.

  16. This week's server release schedule has an element of déjà vu, with one server maintenance project from LeTigre entering the main channel, and a new server maintenance project entering LeTigre.  BlueSteel and Magnum are continuing with the same projects that they've had for the past few weeks.

    Second Life Server (main channel)
