@Patch Linden - I think the covenant needs a bit of rewording / clarification.  I have seen (and reported) quite a few platforms in the 150-300m range.  When I IM'd one person about a platform that I ran into, they told me that the Covenant said "sky boxes" must be above 2000m, but not necessarily anything else.  Maybe we are seeing so many of these because people truly believe that only actual skyboxes have to be up higher.  Maybe some sort of rewording that explicitly says that the area between 15m and 2000m must be kept clear of all objects.

ETA:  And said covenant re-wording then needs to somehow be blasted to all Bellisseria residents - I know you folks are working on that targeted announcement piece.

The covenant also states that "All other structures should not extend higher than 15m above ground level or sea level, whichever is higher." That covers just about everything else. A platform is a structure (floating or not) so it should not be higher than 15m. I also imagine a platform at 15m in the air would not likely comply with keeping the home "in theme". Either way... If someone wants a platform for building it should be above 2000m. Not being "boxed in" is not a viable loophole.

  2. Many of those setting do NOT reset to a default when the parcel is abandoned.

Also, one thing many people are not aware of is if you have a "noisy neighbor" you definitely can ask them to check the box to restrict their sounds to their parcel, but you can also restrict your sounds to your parcel and achieve the same effect of not hearing their sounds. It the blocking effect works both ways, not just from your parcel but into your parcel as well.

In case you decide to try out other homes - it is a mailbox for the Houses (Traditional and Victorian), a Buoy for the Houseboats, and a little cardboard sign on a post for the Campers/Trailers.

Cardboard? 😧 Those are all hand carved by Milli out of only the finest primwood cubes.

They got a little mad at me when I hoped for the same thing when this bug was in my Victorian...

@Abnor MoleThis bug seems to be effecting the trads in coral bay and the island it's part of, as well as it's clone up in 'dahm straight'.

I also found a road object last night floating in the sky on both those regions and sent the relevant mole an IM.

The rezzers should all be updated by now. Rerezzing the house now will rez the correct version. If it does not, please let us know.

Maybe I am a bit naive there but having a region in an OpenSim Grid (Craft) I am used to just up- and downloading my whole region, backing it up from time to time, being able to return to any former version if I wish. So I assumed as a matter of course that every time just BEFORE you released any Bellisseria- region you just took an OAR file of it so that you could reproduce the whole continent of Belliseria in a virgin state (without any User- content) in quite another place far from the old one in about one day if you want to.

"virgin state" meaning without any and all fixes/upgrades/changes to content that were made in the months since they were released. Again, it isn't how long it would take to clone it that is the issue, it is the time and effort required to prepare that cloned region to be in a state it would be able to be released. Like many things, it isn't as simple as people think or assume it is.

I have not liked cloning, but as I get more used to the thought, I think heck, just clone Bellisseria. 10 000 more homes ready to go after the scripting is tested. Put them in automatic release, as they have done now. Bellisseria on the homepage for months.

I did not like that the clone of the huge boat continent, and the other small islands was so visible on the map. I must admit, that when I open the map inworld (I do that almost daily), it is zoomed in so close to the region I am in, that I can't see these clones.

So consider me gone from the "Ew, cloning!" camp to the "I don't care, just clone it" camp.

We have 4 themes now, and Patch Linden has said it's 4 more to come. The superclone Bellisseria will free Lindens and Moles to work on the next 4 themes. It will then be 20 000 homes of the four first, Traditionals, Boats, Campers and Victorians, and 20 000 of the unknown next four.

    Should be plenty for all.

Yes... except doesn't work that way. There is a right way to use clones and a wrong way to use clones. The "superclone Bellisseria" idea is definitely the wrong way. We can't clone a region that has been already release and has resident content on it. We'd have to use they state it was originally released in (assuming that is even possible). It means any changes that have been made on the live version have to be done all over again (also assuming it's even possible and we can track down everything that was changed or fixed). Just removing all the resident content from a clone of the existing regions isn't feasible either. That would be a monumental and time consuming task. And it would all have to be completely QA checked before release, which takes almost as long as it does to build a region. QA is waaaaay more than just testing scripts. And I'm not sure where "automatic release" came from. There is no automatic anything when it comes to releasing regions.

The bottom line is... a supercloning of Bellissaria would not actually free anyone to work on anything. The opposite is true. It would actually suck up most of our resources and take them away from building new themes and lands. It's never a simple matter of copy/paste.

The right way to use clones (we believe) is the way we have done in the Victorian release. Modified prefabbed templates that can be placed and arranged with a mix of one-off built areas. Decreasing necessary build and QA time while arranging the regions made from them in a way they don't "feel" like a clone at eye/ground level.

  7. That two region wide strip of open water was always intended to be filled (mostly) with land and houses. Building and providing homes is always going to be the priority. I try to do it in a way that gives an interesting coastline and leaves a passable channel for boats to get from one area of open water to another. Sometimes those channels are a little tight, but not even close to the way some areas on the mainland can be. (And which some residents sometimes block with their stuff and fill with offsim objects, but that's a whole other topic.)

If the Lab wants to add more open water regions around Bellisseria they can, but they need a good reason. You just need to give them a really good one (because that is a lot of empty regions). The most powerful argument would be if they see the ones that are already there being consistently used by residents. The same goes for things like public spaces for the community like Campwich Lodge. If they are being utilized and there is a call for more, we'll build more. Right now what is being utilized and called for the most is more houses, so that's what we build the most. :)

  8. Setting a Linden Home parcel to a group so your partner or friends can rez and use the parcel is absolutely okay. Setting it to a group for the purpose of renting it for L$ to someone is not. That is commercial activity and not allowed. A family or group of friends could even set their parcels to the same group for the purposes of "management" among the members. It is when the exchange of L$ for those rights comes into play it crosses the line.

Edit: I use the term "management" loosely since most group land management tools require the land be deeded to the group, which is not possible in Bellisseria.

If you are tired of moving  love the location but want something a bit different  what ever you like  out side take a pic or go the spots ie the montains ,,, shoreline anywhere in second life take that pic ,, then up load it to make it a texture ,  on one side of the  flat prim put the texture , on the side that people would see from the outside go to edit and make it transpatent . i put that on the outside of the addon  so if i want a rainy day i just put a rainy scene  but  from the outside  all you see it the add on inside  different scenery , note i do not attach the prim  makes it easier to lift  the prim  up  and change the pics,  and make sure you adjust the scenery to work with what ever windows you have  ,,, will post later of some of the ones i have been working on . hope this helps and if some one can better explain it please do ,,, trying to make rl hubby breakfast and secondlife at same time ikr ,,,lololol

That is an excellent idea. Note that it is going just on the outside of the windows, not around the parcel itself. That means it will not be visible from any angle but from inside the camper and not spoil the views of any of your neighbors. If you want to take it to the next level I suppose you could take different pictures (or the same picture in different windlights), then have it scripted to choose a different view each day.

This concerns me as taste is subjective and as we've seen can sometimes offend or disrupt their neighbours, be it inadvertently or otherwise. But I love the rest and truly think it's fair and necessary. Thanks for clearing it up and ending the debate @Patch Linden and team!

Yes, personal taste will always be subjective. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We're hoping for a couple of things. That people will think about their neighbors when decorating; but even if your neighbor puts out something a little gaudy for your taste, remember it is only temporary and will be gone in a month or so. Let everyone have their fun and live and let live.

  11. They already have ruled on this one. If it involves the transfer of L$ from one person to another it is commercial. They could have the fishing server, but not the vendor that people pay into for bait or anything else.

Understood, but there isn't a way to make this self-same automated system a system that gives you a number and says "you are 1,017 in the queue and have 96 days to wait"?

That's all done on the Lab's side of things, but I'm fairly certain that isn't how the system works.

  13. The migration of adult businesses to Zindra is a perfect example, but not in the way you think it is. I remember that very well and the amount of personnel resources involved behind the scenes was enormous. Also consider the fact the transfer of ownership of parcels was done in a way that is not compatible with the Linden Homes parcel automated allocation system. It adds a huge level of complexity and sucks up an inordinate amount of time neither the Lab nor the LDPW has that can be better spent on creating more homes to meet the demand.

I had the same issue yesterday.  I finally found a trim in one of the boxes that 'kinda' matched and with a little color manipulation it worked but I'm pretty sure the actual trim I was looking for is missing from the texture boxes.  I had a chat with another camp resident who said she had the same issue.

I was going to ask the mole that made the version I choose (air-stream) but since he wasn't online I sent a very polite question about the textures to @Abnor Mole who never bothered to even acknowledge that I contacted him.  I know they are busy but dang, complete silence.  I can only suggest that you improvise like I did.  *shrugs

Sorry. I don't always get a chance to respond to offline IMs when I log in... and if my viewer crashes (which is has been doing a lot lately) I don't even know who contacted me.

  15. Yes, these are two parcels that were auctioned off by Patch during a charity event. They are where they are because we needed a place that was (1) a full region, (2) a region with no other houses on it so it could be excluded from the pool of available homes and rolled back to its original state later if the Lab chose to do so, (3) far enough away from existing homes that it would not unreasonably "spoil" anyone else's view, and (4) a nice treat for two people who gave very generously toward a very worthy cause.

  16. Bingo. You got it. Alternatively, they could set the land to the same group as it was before, and the previous owner would just have to set any items that were missed before to that group. But yes, that would do it.

Looking under About land for anything showing as "Owned by others" after the sale is the key. If that is 0 then autoreturn can be enabled without anything being returned.

As a Mole with special powers that may be the case. However, when setting land to sell you are asked: if you want to "Include objects..." - even if you say yes, if the objects are no copy they will be returned because when someone buys the parcel, ownership of all objects left on the land will transfer to them, no-transfer items will be automatically returned. This is the issue, I understood, the OP is trying to prevent. Also, what you are referring to happens when land is abandoned - all object will remain until a Linden manually returns them (I've experimented with this a couple time, once it was two weeks before they were returned) :D

There are no special powers involved. It's how land transfer of ownership works in general. When you sell land from one person to another or deed it to a group (because that is a transfer of ownership as well) autoreturn defaults to zero regardless of whether ownership of transferable object on the parcel are sold with it or not. It also defaults to zero if you subdivide parcels. Nothing gets returned until the new owner turns autoreturn on again. And then it will only return objects not owned by them or set to the same group the land is set or deeded to when they do.

You can tell how many and even what objects will be returned after the land sale once they turn on autoreturn by looking under About Land > Objects tab. Anything in the "Owned by others" category will be returned once autoreturn is enabled. If you click "Show" those items will be highlighted (if they are in view).

Trust me. I do transfers of ownership of land all the time between deeding them to groups and between accounts. The autoreturn defaults to zero. Sometimes I think it is a pain because I sometimes forget to turn it back on, but then I remember it works like that for a good reason. That reason is to prevent the very thing the OP is wanting to avoid... having everything returned the instant the land transfers ownership whether they want it returned or not.

As I was wandering, I came across this box in SSP248.
Any speculation as to why (other than for the future) the moles should leave 6k free?

Just regular old decorating content. We have a budget we have to stick to. It is a reminder for the moles decorating to not go over budget on one side of the river and not leave enough LI for the other side when we get to it. That region is about half done and 6k is roughly half the budget for that region. Mystery solved.

*thinks about saying something like "that is where the pet rock breeding stations are going to go" anyway and watching the speculative comments fly at the speed of rumor*
