This thread puzzles me a bit.  The only thing I see in the Bellisseria covenant pertaining to commercial activity is this:

Oh, and the covenant forbids ads intended to show up on the map.

I think the statements early in this thread about tip jars in the fairgrounds violating covenant may be simply mistaken; the fairgrounds are not residential spaces. The way I read the covenant, tip jars are not permitted in homes, and there is not yet any policy in the covenant relating to events thrown in public areas.  There may be such policy stated elsewhere, but I don't see it in the covenant.

I think the Pirate DJ group is doing a great thing, since I'm sure there are those who feel pressure when tip jars (particularly the obnoxious ones that announce the amount of every person's tip), are present.  I just think that if people want to use the fairgrounds for an event featuring their favorite DJ whom they can't afford to pay, it would be nice if tip jars were an option.

It could also be the case that a significant portion of Bellisseria residents may want to throw a benefit event in a public space, e.g. for RFL or Creative Park (Parkinson's).  Such an event would be impossible without donation kiosks.

I second this. Bay City Fairground performers have been allowed the use of tip jars. That is a Governor Linden owned area. I was told by Missy that the performers had the ability to rez out tip jars. I didn't even think to question that. We went with what we were told. I'm hoping she's not getting a lot of flack after this. She was a huge help and we will always be eternally grateful for her help.  As to "someone" telling lies. I said maybe the message got dropped from one organizer to the next, but I didn't know. I also said maybe policy changed or maybe we worked with different people which seems we did since you guys spoke with Guy Linden and we didn't. The Lindens and Moles sometimes don't always have the same message one to the next, that happens in every company or group. It's not a knock on them. We are after all playing a big game of "telephone" here. One person gets told something and in the mix and bustle of planning that message gets lost. It's not a blame game. It's not a slur. Stuff just happens like that.  Goodness knows that happened to us now and again in planning this. It's why we try our best to write everything down in our discord channel so that messages don't get lost and even then... they do. It happens. We all do our best and we move on to the next event having learned from the previous ones. Either way we wish everyone a very happy Slife and many many awesome events to be planned in the future.

In the future, if tip jars are to be allowed for special events, tip jars could be strategically placed around the event with a notice stating that tips are sanctioned and that all tips will be divided equally among those those providing the entertainment.

Unfortunately, only one person (perhaps others as I'm not sure) received compensation, because not all were aware that tip jars were allowed.

I paid all my DJs and Singers. I work in SL. I think folks who work, put their time and effort into a job deserve to be paid.

Nobody here is disputing whether the fairgrounds are open for use by all groups... We are however asking for clarity on the specific policy of TIP JARS and why this seems to have been communicated by the Lindens to SOME but not ALL of the groups in regards to TIP JARS

That would probably be because this is all new and only the second event. I'm not sure which mole or linden helped set up the first event. Maybe they forgot to mention it? I'm upset at the reference to special treatment. That is just part of the whole issue with folks trying to start rumors and trouble where there shouldn't be any. The moles and lindens work hard to provide an awesome place for us all. And they're super busy. I can assure you, that the little contact we had, was just talking about who needed group invites, what dates we could set up and then just chit chatting at the party, helping us with last minute invites and bumping up the avatar allowance when we over flowed. They were awesome and I'm eternally grateful for their help but I do not want it construed that they would treat any of us differently. That's not fair to them.

  4. I encourage all of you who would like to host an event to do so. You do not need to belong to Group A or Group B or even Group C to be allowed to host an event at the Bellisseria Fairgrounds. It is open for everyone. It belongs to no one but the Lindens for community use.

The big deal is that if something is sanctioned, that should be made public for everyone to know, not a chosen few. I'm not in any way, shape, or form saying that it shouldn't have been sanctioned. I'm still of mixed opinion on that, and it's a decision for the Lindens to make anyway.

My issue, if we really want to go there, is special favors being given to certain groups and not every single resident of Bellisseria. Perhaps that should be in a separate thread, though, as DJs are only a part of that discussion.

There are no special favors. The fairgrounds are open to ANYONE to host an event. You can petition the moles or lindens to be approved for dates. I was told, and so was the Bellisseria Community group, as we were brought there together by Patch Linden, that there would be a calendar coming soon that folks could sign up for dates to throw events. It was even spoken about in one of the live interviews with Patch Linden.

  6. Hi. I booked him upon majority request of the group when I was asking for DJ recommendations. I was told by Missy Mole that performers could rez their tip jars when she was discussing set up with me. Happy to clarify that for you. You guys should really ask the moles or lindens for further clarification.

There are many premium members who used that extra 512 and now feel locked out of the new homes unless they give up that land they bought. So having 512s in the new area I think is a MUST. I have a good friend in that position right now. He bought a small parcel for a store and now feels as though he has no choice but to stay in the older homes.

That makes sense. I hope they do some of each with the 512 and 1024 and maybe some smaller homes similar to the ones already released. And of course cabins and I'm still holding out for those cardboard boxes (tongue in cheek joke) that Patch said they were working on.

  8. I guess I always assumed any of the new homes would be 1024 because that is what we're now paying for with premium. Even if it's a smaller house, it would be nice to have the land/prim use the same for folks who are more outdoorsy decorators than indoors. Like, I live on my back porch. If I had a smaller home I'd still appreciate having the same LI usage to use to do the outdoor decor. I can see though, maybe it's because these are smaller they feel they should only be smaller plots? having 1 512 in premium land and 1 512 in mainland wouldn't really work for me, that isn't out growing the premium land that's just splitting it.

Inspiration is a beautiful thing. It's not wise to underestimate its' necessity in the world.

I am aware of this, I have read the covenant. :)

And of course you are welcome to speculate as to my intentions all day long. Projecting your opinions on me, however, as if they are a fact is a very misguided thing to do.

By all means you are welcome to, as are others, if you genuinely believe that I am in breach of the land covenant.

I pay for my premium membership the same as anyone else, and I am as much entitled to claim and own a Linden Home as much as you or anybody else in the new continent.

If I could again point to an earlier comment that projecting your personal opinion of me as a fact really isn't a necessary thing to do, in fact it's rather ugly. And while you didn't call out my brand by name (why would you, it's just more 'advertising' for me, correct?) pictures of my open house and my signage etc were shared so I saw that the door was open enough for me to comment specifically. I have a right to comment on an open forum as much as you do.

And I have no intents of bowing out or have an exit strategy. I apologise that my existence on the continent is a thorn in your side but I feel that problem lies with you alone, maybe it's something deeper, I'm not sure. But I'm not here to speculate. However if you're keen on a giveaway I hold them often and in many forms if you would be interested in that.

The Lab have clearly put a lot of time and effort into a project that is bringing some new momentum to the platform which benefits all of us. It's been a good and refreshing thing to see. There aren't many companies that would be able to roll out and have a fully populated sizeable community practically in 24 hours but look around you and see. We're having a good time and enjoying this new breath of life.

The only low point about this entire thread personally is being reminded that nothing good can exist without somebody or a small group of people (if what you attested to before is accurate) pushing back with negativity. I'm not going to strip you of your right to have an opinion, but it's just that. Coming to the forums stating your opinions as facts is not only a shame; that your post can misguide others into maybe not sharing their home with others, not inspiring others, and on a basic level putting people off wanting getting to know their neighbour in the new continent is just something we're all going to be sorry about in the end.

You shouldn't have to leave. You've done nothing wrong. Your home is lovely and I'm supremely happy the Patch has now chimed in so that the sideline policing from people not in a position to police can end.

I'd hoped for some tech work around (one that a scriptor could even sell) since I suspect mainland will get even more ... colorful and not everyone who attracts visitors wants to build in the sky. As more people move to estates or to Linden themed continents, this will be how it goes.  Pretty much all public spaces & business will eventually move off mainland, if they can do so.  So it goes

I agree, I would like to see them offer ownership of home steads or the smaller sims, I forget what they called them, without having to own a full sim. I would probably happily own a homestead for my store if they didn't also make me have to own a full sim first.

  11. All of this happens now. The best way to avoid it is to rent from land barons who you pay more to. However, that increased pay, much like an HOA, will make certain you get more space, more prims but your neighbors cant be anarchists. Or you buy mainland, and you derender, you build in the sky or you find one of the very few groups in SL who work to beautify mainland to live next to.

  12. You should check out the new continent, Bellisseria. There is always someone around, actually usually, lots of someones. People driving, biking, walking. People have created amazing public hangouts for the exact purpose to meet new people!
