I remember these! We made our first carousel using these… In a cafe built inside of a huge cake - way up in the sky. Good Times!

to the topic, I’m hoping for the actual release of NUX avatars. I think there also may be a theme reveal for P+ homes. I like these kinds of surprises though! So I’m anticipating some good things.

I’ll probably get a new head at some point but I still like my Catya head too. Trying on hats for Royal Ascot next week, before/after changing makeup.  I think I’ll change the hair for something simpler and cool blonde.

Surely the new mentors will be as objective as judges!! ;0

Or they may just try hard to listen to the new Residents wishes and suggest from their experience?
    Time will tell.

I always love it when someone  listens well enough to really try to figure out what I’m trying to do and then advises me from the best of their own relevant experience.

(Edit: above in my previous reply post  ‘their own’ means the new Resident, not the mentor.)

They've arrived at a magical world where anything seems possible, where creativity reins, where you can even FLY!... and you as the mentor are the person helping them in this new adventure.

This…followed up with - ‘’and mentors get to help new people discover their own best ways to learn to partake and enjoy it! Yay!

edit: ‘their own ways’ meaning the new person’s wishes.

Pet peeve (as a typographer of 30+ years) ... Comic Sans. People who don't understand the difference between a hyphen, en-dash, and em-dash and use the hyphen incorrectly!

Second peeve? Embarrassingly, having a piece of the original London Bridge (they sold them as souvenirs) but not wanting to mention that fact in the Peeve thread after all that pedantic history lesson. Oops, it got mentioned.

Sometimes we labor under the limitation that Chinese site syntax + the text cut/paste + typeface selection function in the forum gives us. But it broke gloriously and made people laugh so I’ll still count the win.

Peeve The First - Western time zone adherence and northern hemisphere seasonal hyper-awareness - it’s a cold winter early morning down under! I’m in North America right now but I had to check the time before bugging my Melbourne friend too early,

    peeve: humblebrag but true edition.
Oh it’s sometimes much harder to structure my time since I’m freelance…

I don't think the forum community is very representative.

I really find this to be true, but I also don’t know that many of the people here also have that same perception - for many it may be similar or dare I say ‘here’ might even be something of a substitute for there. I cringe to say that honestly because I sure wish there was more of what I experience inworld present here in the forums too. There are glimmers, but too few for my satisfaction. I think that’s really important when it comes to discussing things that actually happen in the world, knowing that the way that they will be perceived in the forum will be often completely different. I know to watch for that now, but occasionally a zing still catches me off guard.

  7. @Silent Mistwalker I skimmed it but to be frank, quoting a 2-+ year old op-ed piece by an un-cited ‘staff writer’ isn’t (to my mind) a valuable or productive discussion reply. I also feel that in this case, no reply I could make will be very satisfactory to you so respectfully, I’ll shift my focus away.

Now my musing is on what things are prompted and the mechanism. I get the feeling that it may honestly be that the things Residents work hard on creating and promoting inworld and in blended events may just come under Lab notice easier because they are Resident-supported and promoted well.

@Love Zhaoying I don’t think it detracts or distracts when it’s actually being cited as the example of something, well-supported, well promoted and aspirational? But maybe that’s just me, feeling good & festive feels about both in my head during this kind of discussion? 💜.

    Boxing without gloves. Violence.

I'll never understand why people want to celebrate violence but apparently, they do.

    That’s a mighty leap.

I suggested it for SL, where no humans would be harmed unless feel you are harmed by watching or discussing such things in which case I’d also assume you had the foresight to abstain and absent yourself. In any event, the boxing is part of Women’s Lived History, so a case can also be made for not sugar-coating - if you avoid even non-destructive recreation/demonstration/discussion of anything unpleasant in a historical context, is it a valid context?
Is it harmful to depict this historical thing in a non-destructive virtual context?

Of course think it was a dangerous thing in First Life, but like a lot of things that are, I think there’s also an attraction to doing them in virtual spaces for any number of reasons. I don’t race sky balloons and shoot people and skydive in First Life but I’ve ‘died’ doing all 3 in SL and I don’t think that necessarily makes me a ‘celebrator of violence’.

a little scared to ask what Victorian Boxing is...

    😈

    that’s why it’s interesting…

tableaux vivant in SL is fun, I’ve been to several places and events that have featured it, it gets people participating, talking and the photos are fun to post afterwards.

  10. I also think it might be fun to have a big outdoor music and dance event called the Body Ball. Wearing just enough to cover bits and nips, but nothing else to start - we play paintball and don everything from glowing glyph symbols to full body tattoos and spinning rings and other rave gear in celebration of the uniqueness we can express with our bodies in the ways we choose to look in SL as we dance and play with big physical beach balls in the crowd and do particle stuffs and fireworks. Edit for epic conga lines.

  11. Since I haven’t found anyone I trust enough to do shadow work with, I’d probably have to say my hoola hoop, poi balls and other dance-related things!

joking aside, I think it would be dancing with fire-dancers at Burn2 and the events there in general. I’ve learned so much from that event about my own limitations and the value of practicing radical inclusion. I think differently because of it. A close second is volunteering with the Children of Stories at Fantasy Faire. So many people are so dedicated and give of themselves selflessly in so many ways at the Faire, it’s an experience that I always come away from with new perspective and some deep learning.

  12. I’m not willing to submit to the vagaries of false g*d LagVar. My big Kitely region is probably only ‘seamless’ in my imagination because I’m usually there alone with my own things. People complain about enough things in a single region, imaging the complaints on  a 4x4 or larger VAR split into parcels?

I never thought the region crossing thing was that big of a deal, most of the time I don’t even go between regions without teleporting anyway and when I do it’s not exactly a major holdup.

Smack a sim corner on an angle in a battle balloon at full tilt boogie and believe me - very noticible! Ditto for riding an 18-passenger crazy bus at Fantasy Faire. Oof - and sometimes we all go fly/falling. Even with the best of drivers. Even free flying with a moderate boost sometimes rubber-bands me if the crossing angle is shallow or in a corner.
