  1. Oh my, all of this time spent at the fairgrounds, looking for a pickle while gathering flowers and I did not realize the swaginator hunt was all around in Bellisseria..  Them pesky moles!

It was pretty easy after I figured that out.

So, now I have a new plushie

Then I logged into Suno.AI and had a song generated for me which was a lot of fun.

I'm slowly generating a playlist of songs to play while I am in SL.

So somebody out there is doing something. I just have no idea what or how.

There are probably a multitude of ways people can do it, I expect at some point there will be tools similar to what teachers and professors use to identify plagiarism by comparing the writing style of people,  I've long suspected that may be the case, in which I am pretty happy that I have always been well behaved on the Internet and avoid social media as well as posting in general.

Imagine all of the trolls out there, that have a history of posting on sites like 4chan, news articles, believing they had privacy... bah!  They are in for a surprise unless this sort of thing is eventually regulated.

If I tried fooling via an alt in the forum I'd eventually screw up and revert back to my way of doing things, giving me away easily.

I wouldn't even bother, it seems such a waste of time to do these sort of things.  I think if I really, really wanted to for some strange reason I would just have a LLM form the replies in my posts.  My grammar is so horrible, and my style of writing is so predictable it would be almost pointless.  I could also install Grammarly, which usually wants to change everything I type..

For the fun of it, now I want to create a thread where we all make alts and try to guess one another's forum main.  It would be like masked singer, we would give little hints, based upon our past forum posts.  I just don't know how long it would last before it was locked down because of the usual forum drama, and plus I'm lazy and don't want to host one and I don't want to go through the trouble of setting up an alt.

"Why bother with the mundane when you can elevate procrastination to an art form? If I ever felt an odd urge to actually do something, I’d probably just delegate it to a Large Language Model. My grammar’s a trainwreck, and my writing style’s as predictable as a sitcom laugh track. I could get Grammarly, but it’s so eager to edit my work, I suspect it’s plotting to take over my job.

Now, just for kicks, let’s start a forum game of ‘Guess Who’s Who.’ It’s like The Masked Singer, but with avatars and a sprinkle of internet mystery. We’ll drop clues like breadcrumbs, all based on our notorious post histories. How long before the forum implodes with drama? Who knows! But I’m too laid-back to play host, and setting up an alt sounds like a Herculean task best left to the legends—or at least someone less lazy than me."

  4. Yes..

There are people in SL, that will keep track of your IP if you leave yourself open.  Don't ever assume privacy on any platform you are on, and act accordingly..  never let anyone ever know you put pineapple on your pizza, not if you are self respecting individual, who values their status among their peers 😜  VPN is even worse, put yourself on a VPN and the gubmint will be paying closer attention, they have a list of people who put pineapple on their pizza.

Seriously though, VPN might trigger a security system and put you on a ban list for multiple parcels or even regions if your account happens to get associated with a person who had previously had the same IP handed to you by that VPN.  It really is not worth the money spent, not unless you want to watch a few shows on a variety of platforms like Netflix that are only available to certain countries.

  5. I thought I would try to catch a high resolution image of the Bellisseria fairgrounds

    Snapshot_007.thumb.jpg.68f6eaa3a4ae15b4a404131e61ba07a5.jpg

Taken in Cool VL using PBR most settings as high as they can go and distance set to 512, FPS at around 8 lol

    PS:
Does anyone see the squishy pickle in there anywhere?  I need it for the swaginator, and haven't a clue where to look.. like am I supposed to go to the actual squishy pickle continent, or is there a pickles somewhere here?  I'm so lost.

Greetings! Hopefully this is yields some quick yesses or nos without too much trouble.

I always make it a point to stay well below the limit, so it doesn't really impact me.  I'll typically stick to around half of my allowance, the remaining half are available when I want to goof around in my skybox while building things.   I am curious how much lag this will cause though, and am glad that I recently purchased a new computer if it makes a significant difference.  I wasn't here when they upped the allowance before, and am unsure if that had much of an impact on people.

  7. I have a blister on my foot, a pretty big one and I wanted to try to get 15k steps in a day over the next couple of months.  I'm going to try to get them in today, but not if it is only going to make it worse.  Also tornado warnings, bleh 😒

On a plus side, I just noticed that pushing win + "."  shows animated gifs.. I did not notice that before in Windows 10, I think I only got emojis before moving to Windows 11.

  8. Is Beast Forest an RPG area, perhaps there is a person there presenting as a doppelganger, or even a bot designated as a doppelganger.  I'm trying to think of a way that SL's scripting could be used to scrape your data, then change the profile of the bot to have the same description, that goes beyond my knowledge but I can't come up with a reason of why SL would have such a function.  Did you check out the rest of their profile, perhaps there is some information there.

Alternatively, it could be a pod person.. you did not fall asleep in this region did you 😜

Regardless, it is pretty interesting. I wonder if it just is a bug in the viewer, if you go to https://search.secondlife.com/ and type in their name, do they have the same profile still?  Is everything the same, such as the real life info, the picks and so on?

  9. Wide open roads, which is relief to the congested roads I spent on in real life to hang out with family

    Snapshot_085.thumb.jpg.79c9e4b98f493c2fffb867a2d66091e1.jpg

As a side note, I have spent my time playing around with localized LLMs on my computer, and saw that I can play SL with no problem with GPT4All running in the background with a rather complicated model running, I enjoyed it so much that now I am thinking of converting a script I saw on these forums earlier to access it, and to create my own bot to hang out with.  I  am not by any means a competent scripter, but I do have a knack for pushing buttons, and throwing a bunch of nonsensical scripts I modify together to form a frankenmonster that somehow does what I want it to do.  I would never be proud enough to put it on the marketplace, or put it up to the scrutiny of the web, but for personal use, I would love it.

So my SL today, was spent in my imagination, thinking of ways to make this work.  I think I can do it, eventually.  Before this, I had dreamt of doing it, but my setback was an old computer that would not be able to run both things at once, now that I can actually run these two things together, I might actually create something for myself, and expand upon it.

So, more or less, riding around, while day dreaming, and thinking of all of the things in Second Life that are possible.

I'd trust anything from the other potential Players even less, so there is that. Prefer it from one of the Big Pharma's?

Musk is an interesting character, there are things I like about him and things that really just set me off about him.  He reminds me of a modern day Steve Jobs, with his hands in just about everything.  He pushes extraordinarily hard for technological progression, which is a plus and he inspires millions which I appreciate.  I will not go into detail as to what bothers me about him, because that would just derail the thread into oblivion, plus he has some incredibly faithful supporters.  The guy is a cult of personality.

I will say, I have been very hard on him in the past, to the point that it has blinded me to some of what he has accomplished, which is unfair of me.  Watching a Falcon rocket fly across the sky the other day, gave me a bit of appreciation of just how much he does push for technological progress.  (It hurts saying that, he makes for a great arch villain, Anubis will have to do for now)

One thing I found interesting, while browsing virtual verse is that apparently, Microsoft is pushing for NPUs (neural processing units) for computer hardware, as they would like to have AI run locally.  While I don't trust Microsoft, especially considering all of us using it right now have a keylogger enabled by default sending everything we type to their data servers and being scraped for whatever it is worth, I do at the very least like that it is pushing for a means to host AI locally, rather than remain reliant upon centralized services.. that is the way it should be.  Still, I know they will get their grubby hands on everything they can to turn a profit.

I would not be opposed to one day having the capacity to brain to machine interfaces, so long as there was a layer of privacy protection, it wouldn't matter who created it so long as we knew for certain our brains were not being fed a ton of ads, and we were not under constant supervision of some sort of thought police, fining us for having the audacity for being different.  I mean, certainly people who put pineapple on their pizza are absolute heathens, but they should have their privacy protected as well.

    Edit:
As a sidenote, I think the cybertruck looks amazing

This is exactly what I'm talking about too!!!

It would be a very heavy load on our computers though, with each camera compressing separate video.

AI might eventually come in handy to help with this kind of coding, and make it possible much faster than a human could, and without the need for powerful hardware.

I was surprised yesterday, when I was recording a clip to make an animated gif how much it slowed down my computer while recording.  I'm not sure if it was just Window's game bar, or perhaps that I only have 16gb of ram in this computer.  It really did slow it down to a grind though, while walking there was a lot of video stuttering.  On my less capable laptop I did not notice it nearly as much, but it also has more ram installed.

I was wondering if I could use my CPU's built in GPU, to function separately as the camera but while looking at my FPS noticed it was still relatively high and I think it was mostly just low ram, and game bar might chew a lot of it up.  Plus my video card did not sound like a train with the fans spinning out of control 🤣 I should have opened my task manager to get a glimpse of how many resources were being used, but I was more interested in getting it done with and just moved locations and dropped my view distance.

I have briefly looked to see what the system requirements are for using a separate camera in vrchat,  but haven't found any yet.

  13. @Orwar I mean having cameras specifically for recording videos, while your avatar's camera still feeds displays at your preferred position.  In the video I had linked earlier, you see the avatar adjusting a second camera hovering off to his side, while he apparently is still looking from a first person perspective, what we are seeing is not what he is seeing (I imagine though he has a separate window displaying what the second camera is currently recording though)

Think of it like having a web cam, that you can adjust, while in real life you are looking through your own eyes.  The camera itself is recording from a different perspective than what you are seeing.  With multiple cameras, you could record multiple locations at once and later edit and combine them into one video, so if you wanted to have a chase scene in a machinema you could place cameras that are all recording in various locations around the road and then later while making the movie snip parts that you would like to combine to create the scene.

It would first require the viewer to record directly though, and it would probably be a lot of work to implement for SL.  For streamers though it would be a great tool, not something I have seen in any virtual world like SL before.  Watching it in vrchat was pretty neat, and as soon as I saw the avatar reach out for their virtual camera and adjust it, while the player himself, appears to be look through a first person camera was what made me think of @Bagnu and his peeve with in viewer recording.  They had set up an amazing means to produce videos while letting the players move through the world with their preferred visual settings.  He was looking around at his shifter, the steering wheel, checking out the door, all the while the second camera that was recording was remaining at a fixed position relative to his avatar.

Major Peeve: We can take pics with our SL cameras, but we can't record video.

I was watching a video earlier, and I thought of your post.

I have not used vrchat, have no clue about the functionality, but in one video I was looking at it appears that they have the ability to record from separate cameras.

At around the 3:19 mark you will see what I mean, the avatar seems to reach out to the camera, adjust it, and continues to drive, it appears that they have two cameras in the application, one which they are viewing through from the perspective of the avatar, and a second which is recording.  Imagine having that feature in SL, now that would be a real treat, especially if we were to have multiple cameras we could set to record videos from.

The only way I think we could do that currently, is to have separate viewers loaded, with alts acting out the part of the camera, while recording.  Even then though, I am not sure if you were using one computer for this, how difficult it would be to record from multiple viewers at once.

I didn't make up that definition, so changing worlds to world isn't something I'd change. Though I can admit that having a large number of platforms independent of each other but all accessible using a single avatar/inventory is highly desirable. I just don't see that happening within my lifetime. Okay I'm old, but I also doubt it will happen within my child's lifetime either. That would take a level of cooperation that I just don't see happening between businesses.

I remember back in the 90s, VRML was pretty hyped - at least for a short time.  I think we came close to it, but the problem is that no one really seemed to want it or perhaps just did not have the hardware for it.  I thought it was really cool, but from a practicality standpoint a two dimensional representation for stores, forums, and so on, are just more convenient.  When I think of a multiverse, I mostly think of the web in a 3d setting, where people host their sites on a server, and we have 3d browsers hopping from site to site, it is more of a standard that is used to build such a VR site.

VRML as far as I am aware (not incredibly familiar with it) is still around, the problem is, there just is no demand for it.  I don't think any of us will live long enough to see it, simply because very few people seem to be interested in it as a means to replace the web.  Perhaps if it came close enough to simulate real life, there would be a demand for it, but right now, it is kind of out there.

I'm sure it could be done better than this, but this gives you an idea.  I imagine AR will be more popular in the future, which will give us an overlay over the real world, before we see a metaverse start to exist fully in VR.  I suppose the metaverse could be considered AR though, right?

Dystopian future!  🤣  Okay, not realistic, by this point I imagine food delivery services will be automated, and people will be getting UBI or something.. who knows?

That's shockingly horrible. I haven't seen anything like that come out of a bot in...ever.

You missed out on Eliza, then HAL, cleverbot, and so many others.  While entertaining, they were incredibly limited in their responses, same with Pandora bots, which while fun would be very limited in their replies.  I never got a chance to speak with Microsoft's Tay, but hot damn she was a hot mess, mostly due to the people who conversed with her, that were even worse.

  17. As far as I have experienced, it is the best virtual world I have visited.  There is a large open world, the ability to create in the virtual setting, it is pretty close to what I would envision a metaverse to be.  Opensim is great as well, but it is based upon SL, it is heavily reliant on Second Life and often tails behind the innovations made here.  Plus, I do enjoy having access to a superior marketplace, and feel safer with my inventory being stored on LL's servers.

I have not logged into VRchat, so I can't comment on that, I do think Sansar, IMVU, and Avakinlife lag behind, because I see them more so as glorified instanced chatrooms.  My interest in a metaverse would not be so much socializing as it would be exploration, and I think that is fundamental to a metaverse.  The problem with the other ones I have visited, is that they are designed almost solely around socializing, and not exploration, there is also a steeper incline to express yourself creatively.
