  1. So in love with Heilung! And I think Hellblade II will come out the end of the month. I had a preview trough a friend of mine who is a professional gamer.
  2. Hellblade II (well it's actually more playing then watching, a great game!)
  3. Maurits Jan Westveen, alias Mau P - On Again Great dance track from this Dutch artist in cooperation with the great hiphop producer Mike Dean.
  4. Coincidence does not exist. Today, I read a book by Motojirō Kajii with an apt quote. It's about seeing, but I feel it has everything to do with our discussion about making art with a soul: ‘The act of seeing is no small thing. To see something is to be possessed by it. Sometimes it carries off a part of you, sometimes it's your whole soul.’
  5. Touched by an Angel: I. From Afar from Marion von Tilzer
  6. That is so true, I can totally relate to that. It IS a matter of capturing the spirit. After all, a picture is just a picture when it lacks that spirit. Fortunately, there are still people today who want to get in touch with their inner spirit (without getting too floaty). I don't know if it's getting too 'off topic' by now, but in music, an example for me is the Scandinavian-German group Heilung who go back to their Nordic roots in lyrics but also in feeling and spirit, all the way to the Iron Age and further back. Just look them up on YouTube, especially the live concerts are almost a kind of ritual that - if I'm too much in my head - can definitely bring me back down to earth and let me 'ground myself' completely.
  7. Oh. these thoughts also often cross my mind. And as long as nothing has been found to indicate how conscious the people of the ancient cultures were of the style they used or whether it is a result of the limitations they had at the time we won't know. And maybe that's just as well. I actually like that some things remain a mystery. All we do know is that the ancient Greeks and Romans clearly used more anatomical knowledge and knowledge of perspective than the people of the Middle Ages much later. Knowledge that only burgeoned again in the Renaissance.
  8. In the old sailor's house, I want not only nautical atributes but also some exotic trinkets that bear witness to his travels. I like the cosmopolitan character of port cities. But exotic trinkets could be found in many houses of older people in the Netherlands. For instance, my grandparents had several figurines of the three wise monkeys ("see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil"). They also had several Indonesian wayang dolls. Did you know that Dutch painter Jan Toorop (1858-1928) was heavily inspired by the Indonesian wayang style? This painting testifies to that. And Gustav Klimt, in turn, was inspired by Jan Toorop's work. You can see that in the elongated female figures in his Beethoven frieze. So, that was another lesson in art history today :-).
  9. That reminds me of Polish film director Krzysztof Kieślowski. I seem to remember that he ones said that the basis of most of his films is the senses. How something feels, smells and tastes and making that visible in a movie. That you film from the inside, so to speak. Or photographing from the inside in your case.
  10. Well, this is certainly inpiring, maybe more so for Dutch estate then Canal city. Beautifully filmed and photographed Dutch traditional costumes by the English photographer Jimmy Nelson, known for his portraits of tribal and indigenous peoples.
  11. It's the way you make and edit the pictures that gives it a specific atmosphere. Really lovely photograph!
  12. The Son of Flynn by Daft Punk and remixed by Moby Really love the energy of this one!
  13. That is so cool! I will contact her to tell how I appreciate her storytelling work and have a chat about that subject.
  14. Been to Story Quest reborn. As a writer, I am always very inspired by sims that also involve storytelling. And that is the case here in optima forma! It was created by Jena Ball, known as Jenaia Morane. Fourteen years ago, she developed Story Quest. The story was focused on the life and times of a person called Uncle D. It is an exploration of a life affected by HIV/AIDS which used a non-linear narrative to encourage us not just to explore and investigate the story but also to reflect on Uncle D and the disease itself - and you had a chance to become part of the story yourself. Now the creator has revived Story Quest with 'Story Quest reborn.' I have not come across such a beautiful way of storytelling in SL before. You follow the story via an audiotour with very good voice actors. But you are also challenged to tell your own story. I have been hugely inspired and am now thinking of ways how I can bring storytelling more into Canal city and Dutch estate as well. Those stories are there, but are hidden. After all, I come up with the stories first and adjust the furnishing of the houses accordingly. But there could be ways to make those stories visible to the visitor. In short: plenty of inspiration. Here is a video from Desiging Worlds visiting Story Quest reborn.
