  1. It doesn't affect me much since I rarely use public bathrooms. But if there were individual stalls with locked doors, and the sinks are out in the open, I suppose that'd be ok. The only thing that crosses my mind is the fact that men and women typically use the amenities differently. For instance, I wouldn't feel too comfortable touching up my makeup at the mirrors with a stranger man next to me. And guys have told me about how badly some are at aiming their stream.. that'd make things harder for girls. But if a bathroom situation ever makes me uncomfortable, I'll just hold it in, no big deal.

  2. @AngieHawk I spent my first months only using freebies and store gifts. You can get a free mesh body that fits Maitreya clothes from LucyBODY. Go to their inworld store and click on the Midnight Madness board.

You can also get a free mesh head from Genus store. It is a group gift. It was still there when I checked a month ago.

Free skins - there are group gifts at Lara Hurley.

And hair gifts - visit Navy+Copper store.

There are many others but this is just on the top of my head. Sorry I didn't post landmarks, I'm on my phone.

I wouldn't recommend spending on anything in your early days. Wait till you're comfortable with sl first. Learn the basics, go out and discover, then you'll know what to buy and what not to buy. Most things I bought early on I later regretted but at the time, I didn't know better.

    So. Context.

I was watching a group chat in SL (won't name the group), and someone wanted help with their new name.   She got torn apart in said group for wanting to do it.

Why do some people seem to be offended by the idea of others spending their own money to have the name they want?

Really depends on the group. Some groups are friendlier and nicer than others. You can ask the same question in two groups and get very different responses.

  4. I always notice eyebrows when they're more natural and "brushy" instead of looking drawn on with an eyebrow pencil. I like skins that already have this but if they don't, SimpleBloom has a good variety, including some messy ones too.

With hair, the ones with strays and out-of-place strands can add a bit of life to your avi's look. Try tram and barberyum (or is it barberyumyum?).

We'll refer to ourselves as African-American to avoid the black and white issue.  Even  though a good majority prefer black, we can adjust to make people feel better.

Like most people, the OP just wants to meet people she'd have more in common with, but because of the wording it could come off differently to some.

I did say some people, so yes while I agree with you that most can appreciate and understand what is meant by the reference, that's my read on why posts like these tend to get debatey.

People can use whatever term they want, but at least be aware it's not going to be received well by everyone.

Personally, I cater my wording when I post on forums and it's not to make anyone feel better but because I know it is going to be read by a bunch of strangers.

  6. Like most people, the OP just wants to meet people she'd have more in common with, but because of the wording it could come off differently to some. Black and white are colors, and for me I've been taught to not judge people by the color of their skin. But if it's cultural background, like hey I'm African American, anyone share the same background instead of the whole I'm looking for black people. Or hey I'm looking for Irish people like myself, comes off differently than I'm looking for white people. And same for those looking for Asian friends.. like, what kind of Asian is fairly important especially for language barriers. The idea of wanting to hang out with people based on the color of their skin.. I mean I get it but not everyone's going to love it.

  7. You've probably tried this already but just in case, have you used the search function to try and find them? Sometimes I accidentally drag stuff into other folders so I search the name of the items. Really hope you get your stuff back!

I don't have an issue with other races it's just that for me personally I'd prefer to spend my time in area where there's more people like me.

If you do things that you like to do, you'll have a good chance of finding people who are "like you".

But if you are really set on sharing a common cultural background, then I suppose you could search for groups to join. I've never searched for social groups myself but just a suggestion.

  9. I use a mixture of appliers and BOM, so yes I like BOM, but I also dislike BOM for the trend I've been seeing where creators completely ditch appliers altogether. On the extreme side, there are a few stores that seem to assume everyone loves BOM so they even replaced their old appliers with all BOM. Just give people a choice which to use! BOMs great, but so are appliers.

Yes, this can be done. The process is simple but tedious.

The Firestorm Viewer can export and import shapes. Export requires a full permissions shape. The Export command is in the top menu: Developer (press Alt-Ctrl-Q to toggle it on or off). Then Avatar->Character Tests->Appearance to XML. That opens a file-save-panel in FS and you can put the file wherever you want it.

XML is a human readable format you can edit with most text editors. I think you'll understand the format once you see it and think about it. The simple idea with the shape XML file is to remove single lines of text. They look like this:

    image.thumb.png.3b403453a87fb892e5ac97996094de97.png

The name field here is what you see in the Appearance panel when editing your shape, e.g., Cheek Bones. So, you can pretty easily figure out which lines to keep and remove.

And if you get it wrong it isn't a big deal. Just try again. It is a text file. The order of the individual lines doesn't seem to matter.

Unfortunately they are  not arranged in sections for head, body or whatever. They are mixed together. So, it is a bit tedious clearing out all the settings you do not want.

I make a file for my head and another for my body.

With Firestorm the import is made by editing the shape you are wearing. Then in the lower right of the panel is an import button. Click that and the currently worn shape combines with the imported partial shape.

    Taaaa DAAAA!

This is so useful, thank you!

    Hmmmmm...

Here's a reply on May 5th, 2021 from LL on a Jira request I made in April - the same request that has been made in other Jira's since 2018 on creating separate head and body appearance shapers options.

"Thanks! We have this proposal already in our queue for possible future work. Would be useful but not super simple to implement, so I can't say anything about how soon we might be able to work on it."

You know what was not super simple to implement?  Building an entire new VR platform called Sansar no one wanted to use.  Imagine if time, talent, resources and the millions of RL dollars SL residents forked over to LL had been used instead to significantly improve SL with things like separate head and body appearance shaper options.

I don't have an issue with fee increases but LL gaslighting users on how increases in fees will improve SL is kinda insulting when you see the return on previous increases was grossly misdirected to Sansar and that there are a lot of SL improvement requests in the Jira that have been languishing for years.

I'm not a programmer and undoubtedly some of the fixes and improvement requests in the Jira are challenging but isn't that what increases in fees were/are supposed to cover - redirecting resources and/or hiring people with the knowledge and skill sets to knock this stuff out?

I don't bother with JIRAs anymore, they never seem to go anywhere.

While shapes can be edited to remove either the body's or the head's settings...

You can however edit your own shape so you can have a head or body only shape. Then you could change bodies using its shape and restore your head's shape or change heads using its shape and restore your body's shape.

Can this actually be done? I've looked for a way to do this before but don't think I found one. Would be so handy!

  13. There a lot of old items that are amazing. I even think some of the older stuff are better than the new, so my answer is no. Plus, if they purge, I imagine that would mean people can't have redeliveries of their older purchases as well, so double no.

Yesterday I'm asked someone to buy my stuffs to make any L$. and She had no tolerant to me and She reported you for Spamming. Also on Discord.

She said " I NEVER CAME IN YOUR *****ING PARCEL TO BUY SOMETHING I NEVER WANT, I BLOCK YOU AGAIN AND REPORT YOU TO LL" I think I'm at risk to get my account are Terminated. so. I'm IMed her and The Situation isn't solved yet!

I wouldn't bother trying to contact the person. Since she claimed to have blocked you, she wouldn't get your IMs nor would she want to. You can resolve the situation by not spamming anymore.

I have reported people for this even if they only sent me one advertising message, as they often include links, which I would have no way of knowing whether they are safe or not. I report both to store or land owner where I got the message and to LL. I'm just telling you so you know that this is expected behaviour should you choose to continue advertising to randoms.

  15. Sometimes I see posts from people looking for friends/relationships with paragraphs of demands and prerequisites. It's like they're already dragging their baggage into a friendship that doesn't even exist yet. They come off demanding and make it seem like they're going to put people through a screening test or an interview to see if they qualify. Yeah, no thanks.

I think most people respond to positivity. So instead of posting all the things you hate and dislike, like no drama, no mind games, no to a whole bunch of other stuff, it's probably better to say all the things you do like.

That's a good point. Perhaps the flag option would be more used if buyers could add a short description what's wrong in their opinon.

Agreed. The flag categories are very limited. The few times I went to flag something, I ended up aborting because none of the categories covered it.

Their logo is Lindens matter. How it looks, when and where they use it and how fast they change it, it's their business alone. It is a miracle to me, what's the point of this thread.

I agree but when anyone makes a public announcement, they choose to make it everyone else's business.

Yeah, why do companies even have logos ya know? 😂 But seriously, let’s all just admit expectations are very, very low. That’s never a good thing for any company. I mean, I’m not gonna kiss and suck up to a company just because I enjoy their product...mostly. I just want them to do what they say they are gonna do because to me, it’s important. And it should be important to everyone else. Especially when I know for a fact it doesn’t take over a year to accomplish. But the fact that it takes them a very very very long time to do..anything....if anything even happens.

It shouldn’t be “they will get to it when they get to it”. You’re right when you said they shouldn’t have released the blog post. Just like they shouldn’t have mentioned a mobile app last year. “Next year is going to be an exciting one for SL mobile!”. Well, it’s next year and there’s been dead silence since that statement was made lol.

I learned a long time ago to take whatever the people from the Lab states/promises with a grain of salt.

If company image/reputation isn’t high on their priority list, that’s a problem.

Well they're very timely with some announcements. They announced the higher fees less than a month before implementing it even though they claimed it was a very complex process.

But yes, if people keep seeing year old public announcements and then hear crickets chirping, I'm not even saying it's disappointing, it's embarrassing and it smells like failure. I'm talking in general now because I don't really want to slam LL. I'm sure they're doing the best they can. But that is the reality of company image. It just looks bad.
