If the inworld store doesn't offer redelivery but the MP items have it turned on then I will choose MP over inworld.  I generally favour inworld shopping though but often use MP for browsing before going.  In addition I often find that there are discounts or sales events inworld that do not get applied to MP.

Redelivery is a big factor for me. I'm still a bit untrusting towards inworld redelivery though because sometimes not everything shows up and not too long ago, a creator's redelivery scripts got messed up or stopped working and everyone's purchase history got wiped 😥

I prefer buying stuff on the MP. Too many stores are difficult to navigate or even difficult to find.

    That and laggy builds!

I used to always buy through MP because I hate trying to get into stores, the annoyance of dealing with morons begging or hitting on anything female, and it was just nice to stay on my skypad and shop.  Then I realised I was missing out on SO MUCH store credit, especially from a certain berry store by shopping this way.  These days I tend to grab demos from MP for hair stores so I don't have to battle my way there, then go home to demo and then battle my way back etc.

Ah yes, battle.. that's what shopping feels like sometimes.

Totally forgot about the store credits point!

  3. I used to decide between mp and inworld based on whim, but recently decided to find a more strategic approach. Obviously if one was cheaper than the other, I'd go for the cheaper option, but if something costs the same inworld as it does on mp, what are some other considerations you make for choosing one over the other? What are your preferences?

See, it was not done inworld, I can tell alot of skin painting def.. totally different look. https://prnt.sc/umczjf

I'm no expert but the skin shine looks like dodge using skin brushes - you can google and download different ones.

Also, I wouldn't assume that the before shot is the only picture used. It's possible, but I find it odd and also unlikely that the photographer wouldn't make use of advanced lighting or materials when taking the picture. Taking multiple shots and layering them is a common technique. It's possible that the before shot is just one of the pictures taken. Probably the most basic one with no special lighting, etc. He/she probably then went on to take multiple shots, changing windlights, set-up, etc.

There are some tutorials on SL photography and editing, but you'll probably discover some tricks watching speed edits as well

  5. While the Answers section of the forum obviously has its purpose, I generally find it to be inching towards redundant for two main reasons.

People inevitably have discussions and responses bouncing back and forth from others, which make the answers confusing to follow when they start getting voted up or down. Say in this fictional example, you'll see an answer near the top and it may read something like "What Resident1 said is a good idea. You can do that and also this...", and naturally you'd want to back track to find Resident1's response. But once there are votes, the order of everyone's posts are mixed up and no longer chronological, making it hard to follow the flow of the conversation.

This could be improved if the answers that are voted up are duplicated to be visible at the top, and then a separate section containing all the posts made chronologically. Or not even mess with the order. If people really want to find the best voted answers, they can see the number at the side. It's not hard to scroll.

Another con to the Answers section is the overlap with other sections. For instance, there's an Avatar subforum in Answers, and there's also Avatar subforum in People. The difference between the two is obvious, but it can make things confusing - like where do I post this? Does it fit more in Answers or in People, especially if a question would generate a discussion, which most of the times they do.

There are quite a number of times when I've seen people posting duplicate questions in both, just because they weren't sure.

When do you really decide to post in the Answers section instead of elsewhere?

They could move the My Avatar forum with a few clicks  under the Art category. I'm sure that would increase the number of visitors here. The Peoples forum where My Avatar is now, doesn't need that. It has enough places with good traffic. In general. I think Second Life is an amazing visual adventure. They should point out that more in my opinon with an own community part. Hope that makes sense. 😊 What thread did you post? Is it to read somewhere? I'm curious.

Yeah I totally understand what you're getting at. I also think it's a bit weird that this Art, Music & Photography subforum is under the Creation section. I guess technically our pictures and artwork are "creations" but it's not what generally comes to mind when we refer to creations.

This was the thread I created - my first one!

Well that is what people tell me who have offered help, they said its the materials on the head, but when i look at the before/afters of the pictures the artists doo its not, because the before pic does not have that at all.. here is a  more clearer image maybe of reference above, i can tell that was clearly done in Photoshop, just not really sure how it was achieved too look that realistic/natural.

Here is a bigger reference picture, showing more of the face. https://prnt.sc/ukoe1j

Do you have the before shot that we can see?

It really does look like it's from the lighting and materials inworld.

I fully agree. Everyone has different favors and imaganitions. Oh, I actually start also sometimes with "sorry, not sure..." Well, I interprete your reply that you like this forum as it is. Nothing wrong with that. I love the idea of a central art place. But let us be honest - no matter what we want - I'm afraid Linden doesn't care anyway. 😄

I actually don't like the forum as it is for so many reasons but it's because I think the lindens wouldn't care that I have just accepted it as the way things are.

A central art place would be cool but would be hard to achieve now with so many existing picture threads already. But not impossible. If you have a cool idea, don't hold back even if it ends up being a short lived thread. I started one when I was new here for weird inworld sightings. It didn't last long.. I guess there isn't enough weirdness! But it was fun while it lasted :)

  9. @Skyehope1 In addition to the suggestions made by Zack, you could also work as a photographer and charge to take pictures for people.

Or become a blogger? I don't think they earn lindens but they get free stuff from their sponsors like clothes and stuff. Jordan would know more since she's a blogger.

I suggest you take your time to learn more about sl first. That way you can have more to offer and a wider range of jobs to choose from. Join groups that interest you, make some friends and explore 'cause sometimes you hear about hiring opportunities through all that.

ETA: You can also keep an eye on the Employment section of this forum. I see jobs being posted there every now and then.

  10. Thing is there are so many sections in this forum and it's up to people to choose where they think their post fits most. And that can sometimes be confusing. Many new posters including me when I first posted start off with "sorry not sure if this is the right section to post in". Some subforums overlap with each other as well. All the existing picture threads could have fit in here in the art subforum. That's why I don't pay attention to which section of the forum I'm in anymore. I mean as long as there is art being posted somewhere, it doesn't really matter which part of the forum they're in IMO.

Might be CATWA, but anyone know the specific name of it? Her username is [name removed] and it's her profile pic (she hasn't come on in a while so I can't ask her)

Why would we need to know her username?

    But yeah I'm guessing Catwa.

  12. I get why group names can't be reused by someone else, but you'd think there'd be a way for the original creator of the group to reactivate a group that has been deleted/disbanded. No imposter issue there. Would solve problems for accidental deletions, change of mind or wanting to revive a once retired group.

  13. @AlineSusanne Yes I think you're being paranoid. Some people are careful with spending in sl and like to look at as many options before buying something. Whenever I discover a store I like, I tend to grab a lot of their demos and keep note of stuff to buy later. So if people are buying your demos, take it as a compliment that your items are catching their attention.

    Hi all!

Today I loggin in and I could see that my viewer when I started looked something different.

Then when I enter to Second Life  I notice that Firestorm had logged in in Default mode.
So all the settings I had were gone.
    Yes,I don't have Backup.
But I would like to know why that happens if until yesterday my viewer had my custom settings and today when I log in, everything is in Default.

Is there a way to get back to the old settings or do i have to set it all up again?

    Thank you

    Hi Nuvya

That happened to me once but it was after I had a crash and when I went to log in again, all my settings reverted back to default.

AFAIK if you didn't save a back up of your settings, you'll have to redo them.

    Hi a really strange one.

Purchased a mesh house which is lovely but I can not walk through the doors unless I right click the house first (I found this out completely by accident and have to do it every time I Rez the house). I’ve not come across this before and have no idea how to fix it.

Has anybody encountered this and managed to fix it?

    Any help greatly appreciated :)

Your best bet is to contact the creator to see if there's a fix.

Otherwise, if it has modify permissions, see if you can set the door to phantom? If the door is linked, you can use the Edit Linked function.

    Hi

Is it possible to collect rezzed objects inside a rezzed prim, through a script?

    Ty

    Hi GEARspirit

By rezzed objects inside rezzed prim, do you mean a prim is rezzed which then rezzes its contents, and you then want to collect those rezzed contents?

A simple unpacker script can give you the contents of a prim, but I'm not sure what you mean by "rezzed objects".

I know you mean the thread name. But I wanted to point out, that none of the pictures here are "adult" or "18+", because the forum rules wouldn't allow that. And that doesn't change for the adult forum. As with all the other subforums, its more of a topic distribution, like... "talk about your favorite brand of private parts here" (but without using the necessary language of course, because think of the children! 🙃).

The thread itself was doomed to die from the start, as it was made in an unsincere fashion by someone, who probably has no idea about the forum rules.

Ah I see, thanks - I'm not all over the rules. I have seen b*tts here and there, and tbh it didn't bother me but I always thought they'd fit more in the adult section if the pics are going to be of the saucier flavor. But whatevs, there's always the report function for anyone who wants to use it.

  18. @GretaFantome Once you have your look, you can save it as an Outfit. And for each different look, save as a new Outfit. See the below thread on how to do this. You can include your skin applier as well to help you remember which one you used, or include its name when naming your outfit.

An alternative is you can write up a list in a notecard for each look, sort of like a style card.

The only thing you need to save a copy of for each look is your Shape (and eyebrow shape if you make changes). Changing your look doesn't change the mesh parts so you don't need to save multiple copies of the mesh body, head, HUD, etc.

I have seen cases like this, however, I have always believed that they were cases of premium people and with large lands. Today I went to a place where the construction was big. A HUB for GTFO! very well designed. I clearly noticed that LL cleared the ground for him ...

You can try ask anway and if it doesn't work because you're not premium, you could ask the landlord to ask LL.
